You call your competitors noodlers? Bahahaha.

While in the Isles we enjoy a catch bare-handed we also have plenty of different machinations devoted to fishing. Some people enjoy a spear through the gut of a salmon. You can catch at least a dozen on the end of a sharp rock if you do it right and mind your weight. My personal favorite was the good old harpoon straight into the depths and yanking it right back to the deck. Could catch plenty of bigguns with those guns.

Sharks especially were fun to spear. They even bit back once or twice. This old man of ours, Merle being his name, he lost his whole hand to a great white that he got too frisky with. Funny shit.

People seems to be busy this week. I barely got any answer from all the messages I sent. And some were important...

Relationship Note on Leona

My cousin Leona. We've had a strange relationship to say the least. Definitely not an all-around pleasant one and certainly not what I would call 'love', but maybe 'Thraxian' would be a better word. If you could even describe something so fucking vaguely.

I still can't say I'd have done the same thing in her position. I was angry when I heard too. But now I look at her and I just think of all the time wasted on hate that could've been better spent on getting fucking smashed on rum and dance like good men and women of the sea should do. She's hardly a stone's throw from an Isle's lady, but she's my blood and she can swing a sword with the best of them. For a people like us known as conquerors and warmongers, having someone of our ilk protecting the King does still give me a good laugh. I mean that in a good way so make sure you write it all cute and shit, scribe.

So, thank you, Cousin. For the laughs and not giving up on your family after the mess uncle made. Out of my favorite cousins, you're in the top ten.

They practice Noodling in the Stoneburn Hills, as well. I've even done such, many times. There however, it means something very different, as I shall explain.

Specifically, it means using your bare hands to catch flathead catfish for sport and food. The choice of catfish as the prey is not arbitrary, but comes from the circumstances of their habitat. Flathead catfish live in holes or under brush in rivers and lakes and thus are easier to capture due to the unmoving nature of their dwelling. To begin, a noodler goes underwater to depths ranging from only a few feet to twenty feet and places his hand inside a discovered catfish hole. If all goes as planned, the catfish will swim forward and latch onto the fisherman's hand, usually as a defensive maneuver, in order to try to escape the hole. If the fish is particularly large, the noodler can hook the hand around its gills.

Mind, the average flathead is around forty pounds, though I've caught fish as heavy as one hundred twenty pounds. These are fairly muscular beasts, and there have been fish spotted that weigh over three hundred, so it can be a fairly dangerous activity, and I don't recommend it for the inexperienced, lest they lose an arm, or worse, drown.

Ha! Did you see the look on Agnarr's face today? Not just his actual expression, dour fellow that he can be, but the braids in his beard? Teach him to walk upon me in the bathing house! Not that I minded all too much. Never braided a giant's beard before...

It's a good manly beard. Ignore the part where the tips of two of the braids come together to form a heart.

Well! I've met a giant once or twice before but I don't think I've ever braided one's beard. I don't think poor Agnarr had any idea what he was in for when he ended up in the bathing house with me. I imagine he thinks he looks utterly ridiculous now! I don't know, it was kind of fun. And it's a good, manly series of braids too! Nothing to be ashamed of. Even if they do form a heart at the tips.

It is quite clear that I am in dire need of lessons. If I am to provide counsel to all in the Palace, then I should be better able to address them appropriately and understand their worlds.

And most importantly, listen.

I’ve spent too long lecturing and being heavy handed. It has brought little rewards except for the more hardened believers.
I need to listen and learn.

Oh. And not to throw out puns to distract from my failings.

I met a Lord Kaldur Seliki earlier this week. He was asking about entry into the Society of Explorers for the sake of his sister, who he hopes to entice to the city. I somewhat suspect he hopes to join himself as well.

He was an affable fellow, if a bit over-excitable. He also asked many questions, some of which I wasn't quite ready to answer as I had only just returned to the city. Thankfully, Aislin arrived and was able to fill in the gaps I could not.

I must admit that I cannot wait to get back out into the field, even though I've only just come home. There's a certain sort of solace in the wilderness that I just cannot find in the city. In the meantime, I seek to hone that knowledge that I already have, so I might be of more use to the Society and, perhaps, the family as well.

We need more writers to author more works in the city. Arx should be full fodder for story ideas with all the wonderful tales its people create.

It has been a whirlwind of days, with guests coming to the Hall to have dinner with us. We've had High Lord Edain, the Laurents, Lord Blackram, my cousins Desiree and Clover -- We even had Princess Katarina drop by unexpectedly! We are hosting Princess Valencia soon too and I am very much looking forward to that, as she is so very sweet and kind. It is such an honor to have these people in our home, to offer them hospitality, to see them laugh and smile.

Kael is a continual surprise, in such good ways. I am so very blessed to have been chosen to be his wife.

Devotions to Limerance.

I thank the Gods for those with the skills that saved me. Those at the House of Solace skilled in milking vipers and those who's aim is true.

But now I am inconvenienced. Because in the end, that's what has happened, at least to myself. Inconvenienced because it takes me forever just to write down what I am sending Camille to have transcribed into my whites. Because there are things to plan still, invitations to deliver and preparations to oversee. And all I want to do is sleep. I am assured that this shall pass, even though it does not feel it. I dislike being inconvenienced.

Sleep, and stare at the servants who pass by my door as imagination roils. Sleep some more. Pass the time with passing letters and playing with Elegance. Lady Shae Keaton has refined what she knows and perhaps I can convince her to come and walk her for me and teach her more.

And you. I know you read this. If you did not, I would have to think less of you. You cannot shoulder the blame for something that was not your fault. For all that you try to take it upon your shoulders, you cannot take what happened to me, upon yours. There will always be those who hunt others, because they exist. Because the very breath you take abhors them. Meet it head on, call them to the floor and lay waste to them so that they cannot do this again to you and yours. But know that yours, will stand beside you and behind you as you do such. They will willingly shoulder that burden as well, whether you like it or not. For that is family, by blood or by binding. This I know to be true.

Happy birthday to my cousin who's not my cousin... twice over.. actually.
Anyway, you're old. Congrats. Try not to get too many more wrinkles.

He didn't want anyone to know this, but he told me that he'd really love to get a bottle of sauce for his birthday. If you have an extra alcoholic delight laying around and you like the Archlector of Death, send it his way!

Another gift idea if you're searching is a nice hair brush.

While the efforts to restore the Gray Forest have yielded much better health for it, dangers still remain. I was reminded of this when I joined one of the Grayson patrols into its depths this past week. We found a mother from a shav'arvani tribe and her two sons, who'd been set upon my monstrous, cursed beasts. We escorted them safely to the city, where they were tended to. I need to look in on them to see how they are faring. The Compact offers much in the way of security, but it can be frighteningly foreign if you are not accustomed to its ways.

As for the beasts, twisted creatures that they were, we managed to slay them. I fought beside Lord Commander Silas and Prince Luca with my blade, while Princess Lou Grayson and Lord Estaban Saik laid into them with arrows. And Prince Aiden Grayson worked to calm those wolves which could be turned peaceable, to remarkable effect.

For all that we were victorious over the cursed wolves themselves. But they were MADE that way by someone wielding very dark power, and that one we did not find.

I shall venture back to the forest again soon. My work is not done.

I had the wolves moved to a private kennel, where they can be close to me at all times. I asked for help from Tyrval, but have yet to hear back from him. Maybe I'll have answers before I go north. Maybe they'll come with me north. The future is so unknown.
