There's a sporting event to be held for all of our physically inclined brethren. I wonder what one must do to be recognized and celebrated for the more cerebral aptitudes?

Preparing for the Iron Pentathlon, and this year it shall be under the mantle of House Redrain. Prince Fergus and I shall be competing side by side on the foot race, swimming and duel. We may even have a chance again to match sword by sword to see how shall come out the victor. I do hope other members of the house come out for the event. I think support sporting events like Iron Pentathlon and Tournament of the Roses is important to build connections among the other houses.

I do not believe that I have ever heard my wife laugh so hard. While this is nothing that must be highlighted necessarily in the journal, I suppose the people of Arx do require an explanation for why I was carrying her across the city from the Archives back to the Valardin ward and our home. No, before rumors abound, I was not kidnapping her, nor was she actually hysterical. Those tears were from laughter!
We were discussing the potential names of our future child. We had previously been discussing the names of our pedigreed hounds. I made mention that we should likely not name our future babe Keaton's Purple Squaller. However, from her reaction and the delight she showed from the rest of the evening? Our babe may very well hold the nickname Squall. If not be named thusly.
Otherwise, I am particularly fond of using the familial Oathland 'ae' in a name, to hark back to my name, my brave cousin's name Shae -- I am so proud of her! -- as well as my liege's liege House, Jael. Whatever the case, only the gods know what our future Squall shall be named.

There aren't many people these days that still read Scholar Abbadon for his teachings, let alone for pleasure, though he was once incredibly popular. In his time, and for a good while thereafter it, his complete works could be found in practically all home libraries. He had a talent, in my opinion, for being able to say what was both startling as well as obvious. Although his prose style is undoubtedly considered (if one bothers to read anything of his), as too formal -we prefer expletives and the colloquial now- I keep stumbling across little gems that are wonderfully pertinent nearly three hundred years after he penned them. I ponder whether or not much of what we write will stand the same test of time. Then again...it is the fancy of every age to presume that it will have the last word.

I met some interesting new people. I blooded my new dagger (if you count spider blood...it was a very large spider). I helped wrest something from the hands of the Abyss and give it back to whom it belonged. One of the nicer things that's happened to me, of late.

Demonic wolves in the Gray forest can't be a good sign about the lingering impacts of the Blight and Bringers and such, but it most certainly made for an entertaining outing, other than the arrow in the ass part.

Alarissa
I've met with Princess Alarissa a couple of times in the last month. I feel like she has made herself well at home in the Oathlands, and adapted well to our culture. But perhaps the Crownlanders have the easiest time doing so?
She always provides scintillating conversation, and I've had the pleasure of discussing a few potential works with her. And I know for a fact that her recommendation landed me at least one comission.
Should you read this, your highness, know that I am grateful.

In preparation for Princess Alarissa and Lady Monique's celebration, I have comissioned Mistress Petal Penrose to make me a formal outfit. She has surpassed expectations. Truly, a gifted seamstress. I am sure that Princess Alis will be pleased to see what her silver has bought.

What an eventful day. I attended the King for a few hours and he turned out to have quite the sense of humour. Better yet, there were bacon-wrapped pickles. There was also a memorial service for the old Lord Commander and that I attend with less glee but great pride. Good men will be remembered.
I wish I could say that I expect to be such a person but truthfully it's enough for me to have a good roof over my head, plenty of money and food, and that my liege seems to be a man of the finest character. I am ready to put my life on the line with the knowledge that likely I will someday lose it.
Beats running messages and turning drunks out of taverns 'round first light.

It is among the great sorrows of mankind that so many prefer pleasant lies to ugly truths.
Truth is the first victim of vice; I prefer the blackened and bleeding shard of honesty to all the perfumed platitudes of fair deceivers.

It occurred to me the other day that I made the most basic, childish error in labeling Petrichor a forest god when talking about a vaguely related matter. Obviously, that's not remotely accurate. He's the opposite of a forest god. Even I should have known that. Once I realized the mistake, my confusion cleared right up, and everything fell into place.
It's not better, but it's less confusing.

Oh, certainly we have other methods of fishing in the mainlands for freshwater fish as well, from spear, to pole, to net, and bow and arrow, and more.
They simply aren't known as noodling, that's all.
I think I'd actually rather like to try my hand at some of the larger specimens out in the ocean at some point, if I can ever find the opportunity.
