Another year of the Crew Race, and again the trophy comes to Grayson.

The Velvet Box opens. It took some time to find the right place. The generosity of the Archduchess had a great deal of influence on choosing where to set my shop. That my children are present to help brings me no small amount of joy and comfort at this time. Our loss means that I feel their presence even more. It feels good to be close to my grandchildren as well. To seem them more than just a few times each year. Already the doors are beat down and things are sold as fast as I can put them out. I will have to wander the city for more inspiration. Praise to Jayus and the other gods and my dear son in the arms of the Queen of Endings. I do miss you. But you did so, for us and I will remember you always.

Such a day - the racing was exciting to watch. All those athletic people doing their best to win across the finish line first. Also today, I met Prince Barric and I worked to further our trade outlook, helping others where I can. I have found that there is something to be said for working with others to improve trade around the compact. I won't say I am good at it, really, but it is something that maybe I can chip away at.

We have survived our first fortnight in Arx. Already the Keep is beginning to look lived in. A new fountain by way of donation from the Highlady of Thrax herself, and the courtyard has begun to take upon itself a life of its own, dedicated to both Gild and Mangata.
Soon the Trade office shall be opened and we can continue to expand our trading networks. It has been a long road so far, even though it has not even yet been a month. However, I have found many of my dealings with the current citizens and nobles of Arx to be rather complimentary and beneficial to all involved. I do hope that we can continue with such a trend.

So not too long ago I fought against Lady Amarantha in a duel. It was quite fun! I sung a song, we exchanged puns, and in the end I won the bout. She is quite good at avoiding blows, it was quite hard to hit her! Also Princess Sorrel and Caith's fish puns were top knotch, I could learn something from them!

My cousin is a married man! I do not believe I would be saying those words about Ignacio but over the last few years he's certainly done a lot of growing up.
I miss the times when we were younger and I'd encourage him to pull a prank on Leo. Truth is, Ignacio did not need much encouragement.

Relationship Note on Venturo
Though this was probably the most calm Assembly of Peers I have ever seen.... I have to think Master Brewer Venturo Thayne. Was he there? No. But, his Smoky Evenings Whiskey filled my flask for the festivities.
For once, I sipped from my flask ONLY because I enjoyed the drink, and not also because I needed something to dull the pain.
He is truly a Master of his trade, and I hope he knows, I want one of everything he makes, ever. Hear that Venturo? Set a bottle aside for me next season!

Today's assembly proved... well, assembly like. Of course the reports from the war front were disturbing, and the arguments over methods of honoring the dead... unfortunate. Everyone wishes to see their loved ones honored and remembered, of course, so it is a hard thing to draw lines as who is more worthy. I also earned a few silver and found a fellow interested in me facilitating business of a certain variety on his behalf, which we shall yet discuss in greater detail, so I suppose the whole thing was productive!

The Graysons took the trophy at the Compact Crew Race for the second year in a row. I was honored to take part alongside my teammates from last year. Lord Malesh commanded us well, and Prince Barric and my War Chief Thesarin joined me in the rowing. We had bracing competition from House Thrax and particularly the team representing the Godsworn. I hope my athleticism and sportsmanship did good honors to Gloria, even if I wasn't rowing for the Faith itself.

The first armorer of any talent that I've been able to find while I've been in Arx. They don't make nearly enough women like her. Vibrant and full of life, an incredible fighter and as modest as they come. I can see why she has been entrusted with so much.

The Festival of Colors was fun! I defended the Southern Dunes with Sir Jeffeth, Lord Islin, Lady Fianna, and Lady Amarantha. I think. There weren't formal sides and we mostly just threw a lot of eggs with colored powder inside at each other. I'm never sure I'm particularly good at honoring Jayus. I'm not crafty or particularly good at pretty things. But I felt bright and joyous during this whole thing, which I think is good enough for the gods. All honors to Blessed Wylla and Princess Marian for organizing this fine game.
