Relationship Note on Wash
Lord Wash agreed to help me work on my defensive maneuvering today. The result was that I ended up sparring him in my underwear at the training center; which, to give him his due, is an excellent incentive not to get hit. I ended up winning in the end, as well as picking up more than a few useful tips along the way. Underwear training: Highly recommended!

Part of being a Mirrormask and a worshipper of Tehom is confronting one's flaws.
And while objective, outside opinions due assist in that process-- it's earnest self reflection that results in the most progress.

I had the honor to attend the bonfire put on by House Valardin. To all of those that earned a metal, especially those of the Order of the White Dragon, you have my utmost respect. I was humbled at the valor and dedication shown by those around me. Every one of you should be proud.

One must imagine, after making a close inspection of the journals written by and about her, that they were all in a rush to escape from the incredibly large weight of the princess's ego. It's rare to find someone who clearly admires their own cleverness quite so insufferably as she clearly does. Either that or her particularly large streak of vengeful spitefulness. Perhaps they all wronged her and just didn't want to deal with hearing her complain about it. Gods know I wouldn't care to. Hopefully her latest husband manages a painless death for himself.
She even had the poor form to grovel to the Faith to take her back.

I got a room in the back of the Murder. It's nice to be a big enough deal to be out of the boarding rooms and actually have my own space. I've been buying some furniture here and there, but I can't believe I paid Magpie that much for that liquor cabinet... still, it is a damn nice piece. Probably the best thing I own. Imagine that.

It has been an interesting week to say the least. Work has been busy at the shop, not to mention other work that has been keeping me busy. I like it though, it lets me continue to meet new and interesting people. Maybe soon enough I'll have enough stories on the war to consider writing something. Who knows.

I've been smiling and laughing so much recently, but it's no wonder. I've met lovely new people, been surrounded by flowers, gone to parties and spent time with beloved family. I feel so blessed that it's hard for me to worry as much as I usually do. I do hope it stays that way for as long as possible.
Regardless, I hope I can spread some of my lighthearted mood to others who are in need of a bit of happiness. I need to think about how to do that. I must make plans. Fortunately, I'm surrounded by people who know exactly how to bring comfort and good cheer to others, so I'll have some excellent advisors to help me out.

I rarely write in praise of my siblings. It's something that goes oft goes unsaid but appreciated.
Today I am feeling remarkably sappy. (No Scholar, I'm not Astraea trying to break into my whites again. Gods.)
My twin has come so far from the overexcited yet terribly shy child I remember--stalking the Valardin grounds where we fostered in search of a certain prince.
She's a true warrior now, devoted to the gods and willing to put her life on the line for Redrain's sake. Yet despite her skills, Raea remains as humble and sweet as ever.
I've been blessed to have her as my twin. Excuse me while I throw up now.
Affection is nauseating.

I know you are gone, in the hands of the Queen of Endings, but still, in the quiet of night, smelling your scent on your pillow, seeing the flicker of flames in your favorite lantern, watching the play of shadows on the plushies you lovingly collected awaiting our child, I find myself whispering to you. It has been so hard since you are gone, Estie. Friends and family, even a few acquaintances have been providing support when I need it. Marcos and Doc have been there every time I've needed them You'd be proud of them.
I have had to give up wearing your shirt as a nightgown, it got too tight over my growing belly. The lessons of my younger years in composure and performance hold me in good stead. I'm getting better at putting up and maintaining a façade and restricting outward grief to the privacy of my room where I can indulge in letting go instead of hiding it. The effort of summoning a genuine smile or a little laugh now and then grows easier over time. Duty to the Barony, our family keeps me from brooding too much and is pushing me to go on with life, plan for the future, and prepare to meet the challenges facing me, and I am doing that, Estie. I'm doing as you wanted me to, as I have to.
The Iron Guard recognized you in a memorial. I took Gunther there and spoke of how your faithful dog had walked your patrols with you and of your dedication to duty. You have a plaque on a memorial wall there at the area outside the barracks. It is hard to say goodbye.

I disagree. Your life has value, and you would be missed. You may not always see it. It's in the little things you do, that you don't think about. A spoken word here, a bit of support there, loyalty given to a family. Those sorts of things have ripples. Those tiny waves start small, and sometimes can have a staggering effect in the end.
I don't say these words lightly. I say these from experience. You were one of the helping hands that helped support a project of mine that will help make waves of its own. The Explorers will be able to purchase a boat because of the help you gave. And, there's so much good in the world we can do with that boat, starting with helping Stormwatch and Darkwater Watch.
So. Your have value. Your actions have value. And, you would be missed. We may not be close or friends, you and I, but I value you as a person. If there's anything you need help with -- ever -- just ask and if it's in my power I'll do my best to make it happen.

In all things we must have a plan, so the current plan is...
1. Investigate. See if anything like this tar pit has been seen or recorded before and how it was dealt with. It is decidedly different than the blight that hit the Gray Forest when Brand came through. Knowledge on this will be key. I am currently tied up with an investigation related to something else so I have asked a friend to head up this investigation so those that have contacted me regarding this may be hearing from him next week.
1.5. Investigate the red flowers that have arisen in honor of Eirlys. I have asked a friend to head up this investigation (as an @action). Collect samples and send to her friends and family as well as see if they have any strange or useful properties and to get enough samples to keep here in Arx should she need to cultivate them for medicinal or alchemical properties. I have yet to hear if she is going to accept the project but if she does I will be leaving her to reach out to those she knows may be able to help since I am woefully ignorant.
2. After the investigation completes, we will use any information we have gathered to dispose of the blight. A team will be assembled (another separate @action) to investigate if the investigation is unsuccessful they will need someone to experiment and research the substance before the cleanup begins. I have as of yet to delegate a leader for this operation but I know there are many that have reached out. Thank you! Please be patient!
3. In the interim we must raise 2300 writs (or more, for the cleanup cost will have to be covered). So far 7000 have gotten this started. Its my hope to be completed before winter sets in.
We will be raising funds with events and accepting donations in the interim. All donations may be directed to myself, Asger, or deposited into the Crovane account.
That is a rough outline and if you have any questions Asger and myself will be at the Assembly of Peers tonight to answer them.

I hope everyone had fun at the Festivals of Colors. I certainly had fun co-hosting it with Archlector Wylla. Even though I tried very hard not to get my whites colored, Prince Luca was 'kind' enough to hug me after it was all over. I certainly hope in the coming year that the Northlands Development Council can co-sponsor more fun events like this one.
Special thanks goes out to Valery and all the other alchemists that assisted in creating these wonderful powdered eggs. Without your efforts, the event would not have been possible. We were able to raise a sizable donation for the Soup Kitchen.
