Being someone who generally tries to avoid the Thirteenth as much as possible in the first place, sitting in reflection within its shrine was...uncomfortable, on more than one level. The Silent Reflections, of course, were extremely disturbing, in their eternally silent vigil, unable to communicate in any effective manner. It very much reinforced the sacred vow we take as Scholars - and the very serious punishment for breaking it. We have a heavy responsibility to Vellichor and the people to whom secrecy and accuracy is entrusted with their written thoughts. The punishment is fitting.
As far as the self-reflection to be found there...staring into those dark surfaces and seeing one's self and forced to ponder the duality of one's nature....well. That is nothing new, but it is not something to be embraced, but rather recognized, and then consciously fought off. Balance is too easily tipped, and the dark side does enough to try to claw its way in without accepting it.

It has been a joy to catch up with faces that I have not seen since returning from Stormwall. Although my moods have been ever shifting and my dreams afford me little and less sleep there is a measure of comfort in family, friends, and those I've been recently acquainted. I have finally taken more time to walk through the city and it still seems as new and intriguing as from the first day I've arrived. There is a quietness in between training and my usual duties to walk the streets in the early morning and late night hours, to watch people gather and banter, or sit quietly in soft tones of conversation.

Relationship Note on Mia
I think what I enjoy most about Countess Mia Riven is that she knows when business needs discussing and that it should maintain priority. So often I see people attend meetings on dire subjects, only for some fool to try to draw the focus of the discussion to themselves through near-childish antics. Countess Mia knows how to keep a meeting on track, cut through the giggles and bad jokes, and ultimately get things done.
I see something of myself in her personality, actions, and demeanor. There are moments when she is forthright and every word that she speaks is with purpose. Cold and resolute. Wrapped in the rigid security of well forged armor. It is those moments that she is far more like her husband, Count Thesarin, than I believe she even realizes.
Yet abruptly she can surprise many with how she slips from her metaphorical armor or simply pulls some internal lever and abruptly becomes something else entirely. Warm, compassionate, tolerant, and more. She is an example that many should strive to follow.
She has adopted the philosophy of morning pie and somewhere on the inside of me, that makes me very happy. I just hope that she doesn't take it too far. The results could be disastrous.

Relationship Note on Peri
Lady Peri's devotion to House Seliki is admirable. She recognizes the importance of a strong standing force to deter aggressors and has begun the long process of rebuilding. While it is a weighty task ahead of her I'm confident that she will not only achieve her goal, but surpass it.
As well I have to commend her willingness to ask a daunting question. The answer could have gone quite differently than it did, but at least she had the courage to ask it.

I have met many a wonderful prince and princess here in Arx, but there is something about Princess Caith that just makes the world seem brighter when she is around.
She is a truly sweet lady and I am so happy to have finally been able to speak with her at length.

I know I should be working on stocking my shop but I find myself thinking of other projects. Three to be precise.
One, a gift for a commoner whose skills I admire. The concept is done and drafted, I simply need to purchase the seasilk.
The second, a gift for a woman who I have only heard tales of and never met. Aeterna and seasilk. I laugh at the amount of work I'll need to complete to afford it.
The third? A gift for a woman who might not even exist. Seasilk again, I think. Seasilk and crushed red gems.

I apologize to anybody who's delicate sense of propriety might have been harmed during the insults that were thrown at my niece, Princess Cara. You see, I am currently in convalescence following a bit of an explosion and I wrote to her telling her that seeing her get torn apart was really the only thing that could make these pathetic old bones feel better. I don't want to make any false connections but having read them, I'm told to expect a full recovery.

Are the nobility really paying Playwright Bastien to publicly insult them?
I haven't got his way with words, so, can I start painting insults? Or perhaps they can just send me money for no reason at all?
Though I guess it is good news that Pravus and Grayson (and whomever else I might have missed) have had enough success on their rebuilding efforts that they can afford Bastien's venom.
(Do I sound petty and jealous enough? I hope so. It's a brilliant idea that I wish I had first! He doesn't even have to pretend the characters in his plays aren't particular nobles!)
