They said that we could never replace Copper, and in that they are right.

No man or woman, no matter how strong, or learned, or talented could be her equal. Not a single one of us.

They said that we could never replace Copper, and in that they are wrong.

Every last one of may yet replace her, if we band together as a people, to protect Arvum against that which would destroy it. That was her lesson to us -- and it was her greatest gift. Not safety, but hope. Not strength, but faith. Not power, but freedom.

Arvum, we are told, has been presented with a choice -- to be annexed by the Skykingdom of Cardia or the Undying Empire of Jadairal. This choice is an illusion, for there is no true choice here at all. What we have been offered is to be bound in service to one of two great nations who would use us as tools in their ancient war against their hated enemy -- one another. The choice is not whose 'protection' we will accept, but whether we wish to be made slaves bound by writ or by chain.

I say neither.

Slavery is not in our nature. We are a free people, the children of Arx, and strive even now to be ever moreso -- to break those last lingerings bonds and walk the path of Choice, no matter how winding and difficult it may be. I urge you all, people of the Compact, whether you lay claim to the Crown or to a single coin, to remember that. To remember Copper, the Light of Hope. And to strive every moment to honor her by embracing what she has given us, by remembering what she died for, by bringing whatever measure of hope you can to this world.

She may be gone, but she is not lost to us -- yet. She lives in us so long as we strive to be free.

Seamstress Petal said to Professor Draven (during Winner Dinner with the Blackwood folks): "But you seem like a wizard, only a wizard could conjure up food that good." What a nice compliment, and I wholeheartedly agree!

It's a good thing I wasn't aware of the phrase "glowing fungus" before I tried the drink, otherwise I probably wouldn't have been quite as eager to try something new.

Brass is my personal guest and the guest of the Faith of the Pantheon. I have extended that hospitality to him without regret. I have read a few statements on the matter from a few people and I believe that there are many people in the city who may be confused about what exactly it is that Brass has done wrong in his long life. I've read many accusations that are frankly nonsense and I assume they are the results of gossip and confusion. I strongly suggest finding out what you're talking about before you express your condemnation.

For his past actions against the Wheel, he has been forgiven and restored by the grace of the Queen of Endings. If this were not so, you would not see my hand reached out to him in friendship. Which it is, and shall remain. The gods do not demand perfection. Restoration and restitution may be possible from even the bleakest of depths. Choice is key to this. Remember your free will. It's important.

With respect to the questions of politics and economics surrounding his offer of aid, that is separate, I think, from my respect for his person.

It should come as no surprise that the Legate of the Lost and acting Archlector of the Liberators should support an option that abolishes slavery in all its forms. Yet I think there is room for discussion here about how to blunt the edges of the economic disaster this represents.

There is a question of whether a thing is worth doing in the long term even if it hurts us in the short term.

I have been considering names for the child. I think we've decided on Estara Greenblood if it's a girl, and Lucas Greenblood if it's a boy.

That is one decision out of the way, at least. There seem a hundred more things to prepare for and only four months to do it in.

The world is every day a place of chaos I did not anticipate. Each time I think one problem is solved, another arises. I pray the Compact will steer its future wisely, and that I shall find a firm foothold in whatever our society looks like a year's time. And I look forward to picking up my sword again, I do confess. There remain many evils to fight, whoever our allies end up being. I think I shall spend all my days trying to make the world safer for my child. I am not sure how well I shall succeed. I shall try, though.

I have been doing a lot of research on House Mazetti's Ostrian horses and I must say that I find the breed to be of very good stock. With my brother, Lord Kincade, here, perhaps I should approach the Marquessa Cambria Mazetti, combining an Oathlander Cob with the endurance of an Ostria horse might prove to be what the Oathland needs to help cover the longer patrols the Great Road requires.

I am fairly certain I must have been told once, long ago, "May you live in interesting times."

Cheers, to whoever did.

A thousand challenges in front of me, ever increasing in scale. A tension unlike any we've had to face before, a world opening up around us. Fire, ice, sand, sea, sky and walls. Each swirling in its own chaotic whirlwind, a harmony of forces.

Who wants to dance?

I've been having trouble sleeping...but it was nice to take a break today at the Golden Hart. Princess Valencia was there, it was nice to see a Princess doing things with the common folk, even if there were plenty of important people there with us. I seem to have a knack for Queens Crossed, once I accrue some wages, I think I'd like to come and play to see if I can get lucky. Though, that is for the future. Here's hoping I can find rest tonight.

It is reputed to be a significant mark of personal growth, when one finds oneself able to learn from one's former pupils. Hopefully that is indeed the case: certainly, this past week provided me with confirmation of a pleasant fact - namely that my ducal cousin is by now quite accomplished enough to be able to educate at least one of her old tutors in a few of the arts of rulership. With luck, I shall be able to return the favour in future: I believe that I still have a couple of tricks left to pass on to my younger friends.

I never suggested Thrax would do such a thing to the Compact. If the Compact decides to follow Brass then I only believe it fair for the other fealties to help shoulder the economic impact of Thrax losing thralldom.

Joined Baroness Lucita and some of her companions including Miranda & Domonico, Lord Mirk and an interesting duo named Rowenova and Draven. They each seemed to have some useful skills when tracking tainted creatures. It made for an interesting time. In the end there was a bear who had tree'd a young man. A few of us were hurt but no one died thankfully. It was certainly different from patrols and hunting shavs. But the creature did not go down easily, it doesn't seem like something easy to train a unit to do. Though the northern woman's dog seemed able to help track such creatures so that might be something more feasible.

Lord Domonico,

I apologize for my earlier comment. It has been suggested by Lady Fiora I misunderstood your words, and you meant no slight against the honor of Thrax.

I had no desire to raise tensions, wish you no ill, and will further send you a bottle of Thraxian liquor as an apology.
