Relationship Note on Mirari
The incredibly talented Mirari Corsetina has created for me a signature scent that is the most sublime perfume I've ever had the pleasure of smelling, let alone wearing. Lavender, iris, and just a hint of honeyed mead. It's truly a marvel, of the highest quality, and entirely unique. She is truly an artist above all other apothecaries!

To the Faithful Reader:
There is no denying that we live in a time of change. For future readers of this journal, I refer you to the many pages which have been penned regarding the King's Rest, the Siege of Arx, and the Revelation of the Lost Gods. Any of these events alone would make for an exciting decade, but we have seen all three of them in as many years. I doubt I am alone in suspecting that we have not yet seen the last significant event that Arx might be facing. The Faith, itself, has undergone changes. What were the Triads have become the Tertrads, and two new Archlectors have been raised to be leaders of the Faithful. The circumstances around those promotions have also been recorded in other white journals; my suspicion - my hope - is that for the future reader, those circumstances will not strain belief as they may for current readers.
But there is a danger, in any time of change, to become intoxicated by the possibilities. To discard tradition and custom without having anything with which to replace them. To decide that because the old frameworks and strictures are not perfect, they should be entirely discarded, without thinking through the consequences of doing so. The Compact is a land bound by tradition and by faith. Not all traditions are good - some entrench injustice and cruelty. But they are not all bad, either. It is for we who live, who strive to embody the wisdom of Vellichor, to thread that narrow path between wishing to discard the tenets that we find inconvienent in the moment, and preserving that which harms simply because it is old.
I wrestle with this, myself, in many areas. There are traditions and ancient customs which, had I the ability I would be sore tempted to destroy with a wave of my hand for the sake of personal principle. But in doing so, I might commit even greater injustices through chaos and uncertainty. In some cases, I am not sure that there is a "right" decision, even, but only one which is "less wrong". And finding that path can be difficult, and painful, and it doesn't let you be the white knight in the shining armor who saves the innocent and punishes the guilty.
Sometimes, you are only a man, or a woman, with hands as grimy as the next, digging what you hope and pray is the truth from a centuries' deep midden heap.

It seems that people are talking of smells! People are odd, but I love the sound of my own voice, so I'll add my own experiences to the mix. I've received more attention from the fairer sex while reeking of blood and sweat and violence than any other time. Maybe my natural charisma turns it into the most potent thing. Who knows! ...though, I suppose if you smell like shit and animals it's a significantly less attractive scent. Bird excrement isn't anyone's fascination. Death is everyone's, in the end!

Relationship Note on Estaban
While some brothers are bonded by blood of birth and nature's kinship, there are those who are bonded by blood of battle and a loyal actions. I want Arvum to know, that Estaban Saik, is a brother of mine. He too has been by my side, during the days of loneliness, during the days of reckless fun that ends up with vomit on the floor, and during the days yet to come - I know he will be there, to fight at my side and defend me if it needs come to that.

I am dueling High Lord Victus soon.
It is a duel that I am excited about.
He is a great fighter and I am not sure who will win.
We are dueling in part because there are tensions between our our houses
and it is the diplomacy we understand best or at least that I understand best.
I don't approve of many of the Thrax methods. That is no secret.
But the High Lord Victus, does seem to have a respect for
female warriors. We sparred and he did win, but it was very close.
I was huffing and puffing a lot of after that spar.

Relationship Note on Aleksei
An interesting man, the Archlector of Skald. I don't claim to know him well, but he is nuanced in his beliefs and marginally slippery in his manner of speaking. He raised some interesting points about the Laws of Limerance and the servants of the Gods, and I'm quite curious now to see what comes of this. If he speaks as a representative of Skald in this or simply as a person, I think changes will come to the Compact sooner than will be comfortable.

Relationship Note on Preston
A devout Templar, he serves the will of the Dominus without question. It is that last part, the "without question" that bothers me. In fact he argues that we must not question the Gods or Their representatives, even as he questions Their representatives. Our conversation was by turns interesting and confusing. I hope he works out his faith soon. We all must be the champions of our own faith and our own consciences. I wonder what will happen when those two things clash in him. He seems right on the edge of fanaticism and though I liked him I think he will walk a difficult path in the coming months and years.

Some people think I have no sense of humor. That I serve the King without emotion beyond my endless duty. That I am a harsh taskmaster, driven to the training of squires and Knights beyond all sense of reason. That I am willing to go to lengths others would frown upon to make sure those swords are tempered and honed to a fine edge.
I suppose being half right is enough for those people.

So, I know of this really neat plant that grows where I was born and raised. That plant only grows there and is exceedingly rare anywhere else. I believe this plant needs to be brought to Arx. It needs to be cultivated and all the apothecaries need to be made aware of it's amazing healing properties! In fact, I want to start a huge garden that grows mostly plants of medicinal use for the city. I hope to get other apothecaries and the Mercies all involved in this. I think this will go a long way in helping the city as a whole. Now, if only I can think of a snazzy name...
