Please do not send Princess Donella poisoned rum prior to the wedding. Or after, for that matter, no matter how much she begs.

And Princess, just remember.. Cold brings character, my love!

I am cold. It is cold. Dog is too stupid to be cold, more or less a gigantic wet tongue with fur. Horse and Galley are probably cold in their paddocks, though I had blankets made for them. Lycene fashions are cold, so I had to send back the designs for wedding clothes—because this is NOTHING compared to Farhaven, I am sure. Maelstrom's harbor is cold, the gap to the bay having to be worked more or less constantly to keep the approach open, according to my letters from home. This soup has become cold as I've written this leaf to add to my journal at the Archive.

And to top it all off, I think I have a cold. No, I don't think. I know.

Vellichor, give me patience. Lagoma, I pray for mercy. Why is it when you have a cold, that you feel hot, and sore, and stuffy, and miserable? Winter is ordinarily beautiful, and clear, and brisk! Instead, examining my reflection briefly, my eyes and puffy, my nose is red, my hair mussed even though I just dressed it, and I feel as though I have gargled broken fishbones and chased it with a tall glass of Mangata's own briny brew.

Send help. Do not send any more rum, or if you do, at least have the decency to poison it first.

I want to thank everyone who has been an integral part in aiding the Oathlands in establishing a stronger foothold in the Eventide Vast. Without you, we would not have been able to come this far.

I have received my first outfit of silks. They cost a fortune, but if nobles in this City are to be known as silks, then I suppose it is only proper that I have one good outfit for appropriate occasions. Perhaps for that dinner that Lady Monique proposed. She is one to appreciate these things. I think.

They are perfectly proper, of course. Dark, midnight black items with the mark of the Telmar on them. None of the daring Velenosa fashion. And I admit they fit well and handsomely. But still, it is curious to have such luxury after years in the rough-and-tumble of the Telmarch.

It is getting chilly, though. Perhaps I have silk just in time to need wool. Timing.

Lady Clover.

( Snippets of hurried sketches, trying to capture the subject before the memory fades. A head bowed, deeply golden hair undimmed. Green eyes the new color of spring - then, no - green eyes the color of older green trees. Distracted. Focused. Smudged hands, agile and graceful. )

Had a great night finally meeting a few people at the Hart. Sharing stories and drinking cider. I think this can and will be my favorite place to spend my time while not working on cases.

I say the Cider is exceptionally well! Everyone should try some.

I have to start my duties in a few moments. Today, I am wholly devoted in the morning to the paperwork of House Grayson and the ever grown tally of requests that is usually assigned to the Minister of Loyalty of a realm such as our own. No easy feat, I promise -- but one I can enjoy despite the many stressors. The evening is dedicated to the Crown Observers. Mostly, it also falls in the category of 'paperwork.'

Sometimes, there is peace to be found in the quietness of papers --the sensation that you shall be in your estate one whole day. It can be daunting and refreshing in equal manners.

But only in equal manners.

Relationship Note on Lark

The High Lady of my House -- my own cousin, Lark Grayson -- is an admirable woman whom I had the pleasure of talking to last night after some time set apart by duties. I fear I did miss her and look forward to seeing her more now that we've agreed to it.

Relationship Note on Tessa

My assistant usually hands me out a list of white journals which he believes are to be of my interest and amongst them every member of my family is included, however simple the comment they make might be. Hence why when my cousin-in-law, Her Highness, Tikva Grayson, mentioned some daring person I decided to ask (just for fun, as the younger ones would say) who this individual might be.

So I was faced with the White Journal of Lady Tessa Moore.

So now I have another white journal I read in the mornings.

It was not your praise of Princess Alarissa that made me think you didn't appreciate what I had done, but rather your lack of mention of Greenmarch and my role in the party in any capacity, anywhere.

Your apology is appreciated, Your Highness, and accepted. I would love nothing more than to put this business behind us.

Relationship Note on Tessa

While looking for something quite unrelated, Tiber's nanny Mariah came across some white journals from a simply darling person in the Archive and brought me copies to read.

I would like to say that I count myself wholly among her Admirers and look forward to read more of what she has to say in the future.

Darling admirers,

It has come to my attention that many people do not think deeply on important things and when asked what is most important about themselves they tell me what they do, not who they are. To be defined by the mundane drudgery of one's occupation is perhaps the most tragic thing I can imagine. I am a Lady, yes, but if that was the most interesting thing about me... oh darling fans I would throw myself off a cliff.

Let me tell you this now dear fans, and readers and even you who think I am a silly girl with nothing but a pretty face. Do not get out of bed to be mediocre! Do not dream of middling things! Why reach for only what is directly in front of you? STRIVE. Be HUNGRY. See the stars and tell yourself not I 'can' get there but I 'will' get there.

Survival alone is insufficient.

Anyone who tells you anything different is trying to make you small, and weak and controllable because they're afraid of what you will be if you're not.

The Most Splendifierous One,
Lady Tessa Moore of Highfield

Definitely not Boring

Relationship Note on Monique

After the Gala at the Valardin manor, I wrote about how proud I was to see Princess Alarissa as the shining hostess. In doing so I hurt the feelings of someone else that put in so much hard work and time into planing that Gala.

That was never my intention, and I would hope that Lady Monique Greenmarch knows how much I appreciate her contributions, to making it a fine night enjoyed by all. I am sorry if my praise of Princess Alarissa made you think I am not thankful for what you have done.

I listened to those that knew about the world and I followed their advice. Their advice was to be silent and to listen to the world. So I did. I listened to the world and first I heard spirits, who reminded me of the oneness of it all and then I heard the Queen of Ending calling my name but it was not my name. Still, the end came and from the belly of the beast that had eaten me, I heard thanks from Petrichor. He called out my name and thanked me for my sacrifice but that was not my name. Still, I felt the peace, I felt the pain, and I felt the clarity as if it was my name. From now on I eat what I grow, what I fish, what I raise in the barns, and what I hunt. And every time I do, I remember my name.
