Relationship Note on Alarissa

For all that she seems pretty and somewhat....less than physically capable, she doesn't shrink away when things get both messy and violent. Perhaps she won't have as difficult a time fitting in as it might appear.

Relationship Note on Aksel

The Sword of Stonedeep.

Probably one of the only other Swords in the city that I've spent a good amount of time with, both on the training field and off.

All boots should be watched when Fluffy is around, though. I only have the one pair, and if that dog chews them....I don't know what I might do.

Buy new boots, probably.

Were things going beautifully before all the ships from Thrax sank? Not really....but they were at least on a productive path to greatness. Now we're left with bloated corpses and broken wood. I do not consider myself quick to anger, yes....I get angry, yes I've been prone to careless word choices....admittedly some on purpose. But this? I'm so mad that I don't even know how to channel it.

I want to hit something. I want to kill something. But I don't have a target.

So instead....I shop.

It might just be an excuse, a rationalization, for something I enjoy doing anyways. But right now, somehow supporting the creation of someone else's art somehow soothes me. A little.

Plus, I really am vain.

I need new clothes, too.

Miss Petal is a pretty renown seamstress in the city. She might be able to handle those clothing needs of yours to go with the dress the Princess provided you.

Please keep in mind, in these dangerous times, that the Knights of Solace is an order dedicated to protecting travelers and pilgrims. If you find yourself needing to undertake a journey and the company of a few well-trained men and women at arms would make you feel safer, feel free to apply to me c/o the House of Solace and I will see that arrangements are made.

"We travel every road and every path in need of guardians to push back the darkness of Arvum's wild places, and bring prosperity to the Compact. We are travelers on roads without end."

Walk in the Light, all of you.

Darling readers,

I do not feel qualified to comment on the horrible death in the harbor beyond to acknowledge that it was, indeed, horrible. And I hope the person who caused it is made to be very very sorry.

BUT, not all is tears in my world. I have met... Prince Edain Valardin, our glorious and brooding leader. He is very handsome and he let me pet his horse. He told me if I like I may pick a foal from the stables in the spring. I will need to have a stable by then!

Also dearest darlings, I have received the PERFECT dress as a gift from most Gracious Princess Alarissa. Now all I have to do is find some slippers and all my problems will be solved. Oh maybe a tiara... or something.

If any of you dearests knows where a girl may find such things do let me know.

The Most Splendiferous One,
Lady Tessa Moore of Highfield

I don't really need to share with the city how I feel about all the friends I lost in Thrax to the waters. I will share alcohol though. Anyone that comes to the Murder of Crows can order a free drink on my tab as long as they raise it to the fine sailors lost.

It was an old Thrax captain that taught me how to sail. In a lot of ways I'm just as Thraxian as anyone else that loves the sea.

I normally compose my thoughts at my desk in my study, but this morning I decided to write my notes down in the bank of all places. I am not sure why, perhaps this is one of the few things that I can immediately change in my life. This small insignificant still feels good. I met some interesting new people that made me contemplate what I want out of my life, and where it is heading. There were so many broad paths that I desired for my safe, when I stop traveling around the city. In each of these broad paths, I never thought about the small insignificant steps that make a life worth living. I should change that.

I have named the Isles Canines' dromond, the Black Dog. She will be fitted as was the Red Serpent to be a ship of Redrain wood, Lyceum sails, and a crew of Graysons, Thrax, Valardin, Redrain, and Lyceum. A crew of freemen and ex-thralls. I thought I would have no other love than the Red Serpent and whatever wife duty found for me but now, with the Black Dog, I wonder if three wives is not too much.

I am thoroughly exhausted. But it is a good exhausted. I have not yet held an event in the city, or well, at any time. It wasn't my thing. I was beginning to think I was going to have to cancel altogether, when Marian said, 'hey! So I was going to do this thing, maybe we can combine our ideas?' And so, Northernlude was born. (Thank you Princess Marian!)

We had great support from the Redrain High Lord, who helped fund the event on behalf of the fealty, and many others helped as well. It felt good to bring us all together, even those who could not be in attendance. Thank you all! And thank you Magpie, my protege, for your help too!

And to everyone who was able to attend, thank you! I hope you had at least half of the enjoyment from the evening as I did! (And if anyone wishes to still purchase any of the items, let me know) - I meant what I said at the end. I feel it is very important to keep balance in life. Joys balance sorrows and help us weather the storms. And man, are we, as a Compact, ever facing some storms. Storms full of black ichor and... things. My heart goes out to the Thrax and what they are now having to endure. I have every faith in them that they will meet this head on and overcome.

I, for one, plan to help them as much as I am able. I have already reached out to those I am in contact with on occasion to offer my assistance. I urge everyone who is able to do so as well. Whether it be helping with the economic hardship of having to rebuild a fleet, shipping in goods from your lands that they will need, or doing the physical down and dirty labor of rebuilding what needs rebuilt.

As a Compact, we may not all always see eye to eye on matters important to our various Great Houses, but we are all still in this together. This too, is a balance. Help those who need aide, and they will be more apt to help you when you find yourself in darker times.

So to those who attended tonight, thank you for celebrating the beauty of winter as we in the north know it. And to those who had more serious matters to attend to this eve, know you have the support out there to help should you need.

The High Council meeting was quite productive, and I am grateful to everyone who came with solutions. Thank you Countess Navegant for your exemplary leadership skills and working with the Compact's allies to best see our Reconstruction efforts prosperous. Princess Denica, thank you for your wisdom and the moment's in which you made me smile. They gave me the strength to continue on despite the moment's of contention. Prince Abbas, brother...you are my hero and someday soon the sea will run red with the blood of our Great Foe's minions. In the meantime, calm thyself. No need to split anyone's wig just yet. Prince Dominic, your counsel that we provide a grand place of worship in the Ward was brilliant and well intentioned. With the blessing of the Legate and Seraph Ailith, we shall begin. I was thinking of appointing Lady Titania and Count Turo to be the project leads on this special gem. As for Lord Darrow. Yaaaaaaaas. Princess Alarissa thank you for your solidarity and the suggestions you put forth. You and your family have been nothing but gracious to me and mine. Duke Grimhall, as always your advice was well received. I wish I could say this Council meeting was a smashing succes, but I could have been better. I could have done more. Said more. Regardless. I think food is the first order of business, hangry people with differing opinions is a recipe for distaster. We have our agenda, we have allies in the Compact who have been so generous, we have our strength and fortitude. We have The Sentinel, we have Mangata. We will rise from this calamity stronger than before. Mark my words Vellichor.

Could you have them bring me the remaining octopus soup? No thank you. I'd like it chil- Good Gods scribe. Not that. No I didn't mean write down EVERYTHING I was saying. Why are you still writing? Dear...just stop. Stop. ((Further writings are scribbled out and difficult to read))

Relationship Note on Killian

My cousin Killian is back in town. I haven't had a chance yet to sit down with him to talk about his travels, but I admit... I'm glad he's home. I feel like my family scatters too readily, and he's become something akin to a younger brother to me. A kindred spirit in many ways, even if his faith has led him in different directions than mine has.

Either way, I admit I am very much looking forward to a chance to sit down and catch up with him.

*This page is splattered with mud; it's a sketch of a man in thraxian style garb lying on a beach. His attire paints him as a commoner-- perhaps even a thrall. Unadorned, plain, even slightly thread bare clothing. That clothing is torn and ripped. Seaweed wrapped around the neck and lower jaw of this man. His eyes are open and but covered seem covered in a film. A crab crawls over the head, which appears to have a large gash across it.*

( A serene wintry landscape. Smooth empty sky, few clouds. The beach - sand or snow laid flat by sweeping wind - and when rendered in graphite it's all the same leaden gray. There is debris that has been scattered across the terrain. Dried seaweed. A sand dollar. Driftwood. A torn limb with frozen fingers outstretched. Attached to nothing, reaching out toward nothing. )

If there are words that may soothe the tragedy of what befell those at the Shrine of Mangata and at the harbor, the best ones I know are these: the Mercies of Lagoma shall continue to offer whatever succor is within our means to all who are in need, and shall continue to work in tandem with the Ministry of Health to ensure such. Our hearts and hands go out to you.

In agreement with Lady Eirene Malvici, the Crown Minister of Health, any and all exposed to the ichor are to be brought to the House of Solace, where they will be under the watchful care of Our Lady of Change and the healers who serve Her.

Preliminary examinations lead us to believe that all are expected to make a full recovery. To make certain, however, a 48-hour period of quarantine has been implemented, for the health and well-being of the general populace is no less of a concern.

May the Gods bless and keep us all.

In Faith and service,
Princess Sophie Valardin, the Mother of Mercy

House Grayson sends its sympathies to the noble houses affected by this disaster and announce our willingness to contribute and aid in what ever capacity is possible for us. You only need to write to the High Lady of the Bastion or any of the other voices, myself humbly included. Strength in unity.

As the Voice of Minister of Loyalty of my House I have always been a proud man about my heritage. I have always taken pride on the words "None greater than Grayson" and I have always told younger members of my House that no matter what happens, the House must remain in its rightful place. It is now the turn of House Thrax to apply that strong personality of theirs. In crisis, to build stronger.

With respect and a sorrowful heart,

His Highness, Calarian Grayson, Prince of the Bastion,
Voice and Minister of Loyalty of House Grayson,
First Observer of the Crown Observers

A common misconception of Islanders, members of the Thraxian fealty, is that if we have our ships and our sails taken away, that we're nothing. Simply angry people with a drinking problem and a penchant for salt. Those who do know myself, my family, those of all Thrax, know this to be as far from the truth as it can be.

Someone or something tried to take our sails away today. Unfortunately many men and women I knew personally died because of it. Sure, I can harangue and bombast until the sun comes up, but I won't. I don't have to. I don't need to.

I know, that my fealty doesn't need their ships to remain strong after a heavy blow. I know that we can accomplish a great deal without the winds filling our sails. And I know that our ships aren't the only thing that Thrax people have in common.

Take our ships.

Take our sails.

Good luck trying to take the salt from our veins.

It's not that I don't appreciate the feeling behind the sentiment, or the point of making it, it's just that I think maybe now isn't the greatest time to start setting terms like 'while any warrior of such and such place lives' and so on when making threats against unknown entities that just drowned a few hundred people in under five minutes.

As for what happened, what else can be said that won't be said in a thousand other journals? I didn't witness it, so I don't have my own account. It happened, read it from those who saw for themselves. And if you're willing to believe that every single Thraxian ship--and only Thraxian ships--sinking at the exact same time and taking most of their crews down with them in the middle of the day is a completely ordinary coincidence that can be entirely explained away by 'bad cargo', then I think you're an impossible idiot and you probably think I'm a mad fool, so hearty congratulations to us both.
