Relationship Note on Victus

Victus has declared no one will slander the Gods within our ward or domain.

Piety is strength.

Corpses washing up on shore is not a novelty to me.

So many lands, so many dead in the waves.

I remember facing the rising tide, the waters at my own neck.

If I could summon some inkling of hope for this to stop happening, perhaps I would be surprised.

But the toll of death peals as inexorably as the waves batter on the shore.

Revenge will come for you eventually, Shorty. Just a matter of fucking time.

Like all your bacon mysteriously vanishing.

I'm freshly returned to the city, and it seems like it's been quite the eventful week in my absence. I can't quite fathom the sheer _scope_ of the death and destruction that's been rained into the harbor... and what, exactly, might have transpired to bring that about.

His Majesty, King Alaric IV visited the newly erected Lodge of Petrichor in the Gray Forest this week. He seemed quite taken with it and enjoyed his time there, however the recent events (the disaster at the Shrine of Mangata and the cataclysmic destruction of Thrax's fleet) meant his time with us was of necessity limited. Hopefully, when we are ready to begin our hunts in the spring, he will visit again

Relationship Note on Alexis

The Sword of Blancbier is a warrior of as much strength, fortitude, and dedication as one could want in the holder of a House's blade. I respect her deeply. But, more than that, she has a great heart, and I am proud to count Dame Alexis Wyrmfang as a friend.

House Velenosa offers its deepest condolences to House Thrax on the losses that have been sustained.

Ships can, and will, be rebuilt. Loved ones, not so much.

As a House that has also suffered unconscionable loss, you have our sympathy.

Donato Velenosa.

Truthfully, I expected you to be a bit more of a tyrant, given your paternal heritage. Yet, contrary to my expectations, you are mostly quiet unless you are hungry. Usually, I find you just staring at everything with those bright blue eyes so intently as if you are determined to understand the world around you. In almost every way, you have been a surprise.

Though, I suppose you -are- only a few weeks old. Plenty of time to grow into your father's legacy.

To the Faithful Reader:

A collection of condolences.

First, to those innocents lost in the disaster which afflicted the harbor a few days ago, where much of the Thrax fleet was lost. To the survivors, the Faith offers our sorrow and our sympathy, and our hope for each lost life to fly safely into the Queen's arms, and from there, to the Shining Lands. The Faith will be offering material support to those who lost family in this tragedy, and as always, stands ready to assist the process of grief and recovery.

Second, to the unrelated but no less tragic events that resulted in the death of Prince Dominic Thrax and his valiant men. The loss of a friend, a family member, and a heir of a Great House is always a cause for mourning - not just in that fealty, but across the Compact. The Faith respects the month of mourning declared by House Thrax, and offer our prayers to Thrax and other families who lost loved ones in those events.

Third, to those who were injured during the desecration of the Shrine of Mangata, and all Faithful who mourn and are horrified by the events at that Shrine. The Faith shares your horror and your sorrow, but remember: our Lady of the Sea and the Sky is far stronger than any singular insult or attack. With the support and love of every member of the Faith, we will cleanse the Shrine of this darkness, and restore it to purity and to right. Not because we seek boons or blessings from the gods, but because we owe them love and worship, and because the Compact will never bow to darkness, regardless of the setbacks we face, or the mistakes we make along the way.

If we can unite under nothing else, let it be that.

I have never been to sea. I have not communed with Mangata with way the peoples of the Mourning Isles do. But I am a daughter of the rivers, of the Twins that flow into the heart of the Mother and give the peoples of Greenwood and Riven life and prosperity. Mangata sustains us.

It is with horror and revulsion that I've heard the tales of what happened in Her shrine, and to the Thrax ships upon the waves. Words are not enough, but my heart grieves for the loss. I pray the shrine is restored and the enemy that did this found and dealt with, in all the power and fury a torrent of waves can bring to bear.

So I tried my hand at joining the Society of Explorers and fell short. I can't blame them, they were right. Their ranks are full of capable explorers and I'm just a novice, at best. I always enjoy going out on forays with others to investigate areas in the countryside though, so I think I'm going to keep at this and try to get better.

To start, I'm going to learn how to read maps. Not just common maps, but all sorts. I've just got to track down someone who knows a lot about them so I can take notes. I'm sure that is a skill that'll come in handy eventually.

A sketch.

The pool of Mangata's shrine gone a boiling churn of black, the steps stained, the trees in a wilt as if drawing away from it.

Perhaps I will attend the gathering for Lagomas later. It would be the longest night of the year to celebrate for my own reasons. My brother has been here with me, reunited at last for a year now. I can't express the joy I feel in that, in getting to watch Serah, my young niece grow into a fine lady and share in so many things with my brother at my side.

May your hopes find safe harbors.

This has been a week of great joys as well as great sorrows. Of taking metal and making beautiful things (to me, anyhow) with it, to aiding in recovery from devastating darkness. Crossing paths with new acquaintances as well as old friends - all the experiences make me grateful for reminders to appreciate the good in this life.

The tides turn red with the blood of good, hard, gas-lighted reavers. Men who have the courage to brave the tumultuous and often treacherous waters of the salt in nothing but the lumber hewn with axe and the will of man. Men cast to the cast to the bottom with naught but nails in their bellies and dreams of glory on their minds. There is no glory in this sort of death. We are the blood of the Salt. It spits from our veins and scorches the soil of the vanquished. I shall drink in their memory, of the victories before. I shall drink to their fury and hunger for more. I shall drink to the battles yet to be won. And the ruination of that which falls before the serpent banners in the victories yet to come.

When Death is certain.

The war for Life is everything.

I do not understand what this Gyre is. I... Prince Dominic Thrax. I have a letter from him on my desk, I *just* spoke with him and now he is...

No tears. Thrax has the solidarity of Keaton. We will help you rebuild.
