Banquet in Honor of the Sentinel

As conflicts rage and tensions remain high between houses of the Northlands, Crownlands and the Isles, Lord Rysen Crovane and Princess Alarissa Thrax are holding a banquet in the Black Hall to honor The Sentinel, and seek answers and path forward in the wake of political assassinations, and growing unrest.

[This event is for anyone interested in the Paved with Good Intentions storyline, especially those related to Ford and Asger's deaths, the poisoning of the Crackneck-Longwood wedding, the murder of Jonathan Grimkin, and the proclamation to end thralldom.

A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Brianna before departing.

A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Orrin before departing.

Rysen enters the Black Hall with Rukhnis and Deor by his side. He is dressed in a black mantle trimmed with fox fur, and his rather focused expression softens when he sees some familiar faces. He nods to Lygeia, who is seated at a blackwood harp, and she begins to fill the hall with beautiful music, as the liveried servants begin to bustle about, asking guests if the would like a drink, or some smaller morsels of food before the main course.

Acantha has joined the northern section of a long blackwood table.

Maxene, the steadfast ladies maid, Pellinor arrive, following Alarissa.

Luna, the sweet, studious assistant, Alarissa arrive, following Carita.

Acantha had received an invitation to this event via Rysen, she was happy to show up and listen to what was going on. She'd offer advice if it was asked for or needed. She's dressed in her brocade with the appearance of a new dawnstone ring. She finds a seat at the northern end of the table and gives a smile to those in attendance. Benny is as always her shadow and he curls up just under her cloak.

Merek arrives on the invite, and looks around a bit, before he makes his way to a place to settle in. He has on his black leathers, while he wears a cloak about that also. He bows to the people there and also finds a place to relax as well.

The Duchess of Stormwall is already present in the Black Hall with her large Northland dogs flanking her. Mack and Bruno are well behaved and remain close to their handler while watching all of the activity in the grand hall. Fianna is in her Northland attire, a rare sight in a forest green dress with long sleeves and sequined shoes that peek out from the hem whenever she walks. Long mahogany brown hair is only mildly windswept and contained within a half up, half down style secured by matching green hairpins. Fianna greets guests as she makes her way toward the elevated dais so she can see most of the large hall at once.

Peri arrives and takes a seat near the hearth fire. She has a quill and notebook handy and looks somewhat subdued for the evening.

Braden arrives with invite in hand just in case. He is... not wearing armor. This might be a first. His hair isn't even messed up! Double firsts. And no peppermint sticks to be seen. Yet at least. He makes his way to the duchess who had invited him. He offers her a deep bow, "Duchess Crovane, Thank you for inviting me." He smiles warmly.

Mikani smiles as she is handed a glass of rum. She sips it a bit. Mikani is dressed in an actual dress. Her hair back in a chingon and tamed with a delicate silver hair comb with moonstones while she wears a silver necklace of moonstones as well. She looks comfortable as she stays in her seat by the hearth as she listens to those talking there.

Brianna arrives early for once, in a long column dress that serves to make the tall woman look even taller. She makes her way over to Crovanes, greeting them with a dip of her head, before heading off to mingle.

Wearing the colors of the Mourning Sea, Valdemar glances around the hall as he enters, looking around for familiar faces. He inclines his head in silent greeting to a few that he recognizes, but he approaches none of them. Instead, he asks around quietly for a moment before approaching Rysen. "Lord Crovane, I wanted to thank you for the invitation. I don't believe we've met before, though. Duke Valdemar Grimhall, of Grihem's Point," he introduces himself to the event's host before going on to add solemnly, "Duke Asger and Duchess Anne were once regular visitors to our longhouse. Their loss has been felt."

Irisa arrives wearing a heavy green dress with gold stitching. The wolf-fur cloak she wears bears the crest of Riven on it. Her sword, as always, is on a belted sash on her left side. She enters and looks around casually to see who is about, moving over towards the hearth to get warm from her ride over.

Kaya silently watches and listens, Kaya notices Braden enter and seems to watch where he goes so she can avoid him

Arcadia sneaks in and hides off to the side, listening and looking around. She does at least steal a drink as one cones past.

Alarissa's not ar on Rysen's heels when he enters, all thraxian red and black seliki pearls, every bit of her polished and close to perfection as possible. There's a nod to the Crovane Lord before she parts from his side to go orth adn greet guests and mingle. "Lady Clearlake" As she approaches Acantha. "How are you this evening?"

A carriage comes in from the Thrax area. It's only a short distance, granted, but the snow is falling hard. "Thank you for sharing, Countess Carita," Evander's murmuring as he hastily steps inside to the warmer area. "I don't much get out in this weather, and walking seems like a bad idea." Although there's an offer to take his coat, he shakes his head, pulls it more closely around him, and steps in. The chairs nearest the hearth are all full, and as he glances that way he spots familiar faces -- Ian and Peri amongst them -- lifting a hand in greeting.

Ian straightens from his slouch when he notices his cousin come in. He upnods in greeting, and then slowly folds back into it again, and takes another drink.

Acantha gives a quiet greeting to Orrin and then looks up and around to see who else is entering. When Alarissa approaches there is a moment she stands and gives a dip of her head to her, "Your highness. I'm doing well. How have you been?" she asks as she seats herself again.

A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Brianna before departing.

Rysen smiles at Alarissa makes her way over to Acantha. He himself comes to stand beside Mikani, and offers a warm greeting to Mirk, and Ian who are seated by the heart. "Welcome to the Black Hall, and thank you for coming, My Lords." Turning to Mirk, Rysen says "The whiskey is from Stonedeep. The finest I could find courtesy of Lady Willow."

Orrin quietly returns Acantha's greeting, then sits with calm purpose, surveying the attendees with inscrutable interest.

Marigold, a cheeky pygmy goat arrives, delivering a message to Rysen before departing.

Shadowing Rysen in discreet attendance, Rukhnis presents exactly the same appearance on this occasion as she always does -- sombre garb, severely braided hair, and an air of deeply self-contained reserve. She keeps to her usual respectful distance behind and just to one side of him, close enough to see to anything he needs, far away enough to be just beyond the range of casual notice.

"I'm very well. But I noticed your dress and I had to come and look at it closer. It looks divine on you. I hope that you enjoy yourself this night. If there's anything that I can do for you, please let me know?"

Alarissa says.

3 Thrax Guards, 2 Thrax Elite Guards, Teonia Redreef, Aryka Wyrmfang, Marquessa Pudding, a doughy dog arrive, following Sorrel.

Ian nods to Rysen. There's a pause, and then he seems to decide that he should probably also say something. Something polite. The kind of thing Zoey would say if she were here. "Thanks for the invitation." One out of three isn't bad?

"If I knew there was fine whiskey, I'd have been here even earlier," Mirk says to Rysen in a wry tone, with the barest twitch of his lips in what might be a hint of a smile. He offers the man a dip of his head in respect, and then helps himself to some of the whiskey, as soon as possible. "I look forward to learning what I might do to aid House Crovane in this matter."

Fianna gives Braden a friendly smile when he arrives as both dogs at her side wag their tails at his presence. Seems they recognize him! Both animals are well behaved and stay close to Fianna, especially when there are so many people in the Hall. "Lord Braden." she greets with that same smile. "Welcome. I'm pleased that you could attend." She does spot a few familiar faces -- the Selikis near the hearth, Halfshavs close by, Lord Rysen, Rukhnis, and several others that she has yet to meet.

Carita takes up Evander's arm as the pair enter, her smile warm as she guides him toward the host and hostess where she dips a curtsy. "Lord Rysen, Princess Alarissa, thank you for the invitation tonight. Have you both had the pleasure of meeting Lord Evander Kennex?" She smooths her free hand through her hair to make sure her hair is just so before glancing between the group and her hosta--escort.

Arcadia slips back out, hopefully having been missed.

Acantha gives a warm smile to Alarissa and she gives her a dip of her head again, "Thank you, your highness. The praise from you is an honor." she tells her. "If anything is needed I will most assuredly reach out." she tells her.

?Thank you for inviting me Lord Rysen. Don't mind me I am just here for the food,? Kaya starts mildly from her comfortable seat near the fire, feet propped up like she has made herself home here

Valdemar has joined the southern section of a long blackwood table.

2 Leary House Guards arrives, following Arcadia.

Irisa takes up a drink, red wine by the looks of it, and stands off by the hearth. She does not seem intent on taking a seat at the table with the Peerage. At least not yet. Content to watch and listen, keen eyes watch the relationships on display. Seeing Count Orrin, though, she gently lifts her glass to him in a subtle greeting.

Clearly, Evander wasn't expecting a hostly-introduction so soon, glancing sidelong at Carita. His voice is rough, briefly surprised, but honest for all that: "A pleasure to meet you both, Lord Rysen, Princess Alarissa. Thank you for the invitation," he murmurs quietly, giving a bow.

2 Leary House Guards leaves, following Arcadia.

Sorrel arrives slightly late, with a flush to her cheeks as if she has come in a rush. Or perhaps it's just very cold outside. She makes her way in and heads over to where Lord Rysen and Princess Alarissa are receiving people, a genial smile on her face.

Orrin doesn't have a drink to lift, and doesn't appear to want one; he does, however, catch Irisa's gesture. He returns it with a bit of a smile, a little nod of his head. Not an event for exuberance, perhaps.

Less receiving line and more mingling and making sure everyone feels welcomed. Carita brings Evander and Alarissa looks to the pair. 'If I have, I apologize, for I have fotgotten." Alarissa smiles serenly to the other Darkwater. "Lord Evander, a delight. Be made welcome and partake of Crovanes delights. Countess Carita." She's greeted with a kiss to the cheek. "Lovely as always. Such beautiful things and people in this room today yes?"

Rysen laughs warmly at Mirk's reply. And he smiles at Ian. "My Lord, I can learn a lot from your economy of words, and yet I have heard you give rousing speeches to motivate soldiers fighting for their lives. In any case, thank you for making the journey to our hall."

Rysen bows to Sorrel, and says warmly, "Princess Sorrel, it's good to see you. I was putting your lessons to good use training with Deor," he says gesturing to the swordsman nearby. "Please get whatever sort of food or drink might please you." Rysen then makes his way to the raised Dais, sitting at the left hand of Fianna, while on the right, an empty seat, decorated in the colors of House Thrax, awaits Alarissa.

Rysen has joined the an elevated dais.

Mikani smiles at Rysn. "Lord Rysen, thank you for remembering the Rum." She teases him warmly. Because of course he would remember the rum. Mikani bows her head to Carita and Alarissa. "Good to see you Countess Carita and Princess Alarissa. The snow is getting high ... makes me long for Redreef winters a bit."

A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Brianna before departing.

Rukhnis steps softly up to the dais and takes a place standing unobtrusively towards the back, still not too far away from Rysen. Her dark eyes scan the crowd keenly, expression unreadable but alert, as she folds her hands behind her back and waits in poised silence.

Rukhnis has joined the an elevated dais.

Fianna has joined the an elevated dais.

Alarissa has joined the an elevated dais.

Peri quietly studies everyone. She says a few words to those seated around her before returning to her study of the room.

Ian quirks an eyebrow, but nods to Rysen. The Monique says something in a low tone and completely distracts him. He gives her a startled, quizzical look.

But Rysen moved to the Dias and with an apologetic look to Carita, Evander and Mikani who gets a quick peck to the cheek, Alarissa moves switly in all that backless red caped dress and dancing pearls as she moves with grace to take up her position on the dias.

"There isn't much to remember, Your Highness," Evander murmurs to Alarissa, with a brief smile. "But no, we haven't met, though the Countess talks greatly of you." He's dressed pretty plainly, nothing really to draw the eye and certainly nothing expensive or noteworthy. When Mikani approaches to greet Carita and Alarissa, he regards her for a moment. "Lady Mikani," he greets, then corrects himself: "Countess Mikani now, if I heard correctly? Good to see you again," with a brief bow. As people begin to gather at the dais, he nods towards a table, "Shall we sit?"

Carita laughs softly, "Thanks to you, your Grace." She pets one dangling earring with affection after kissing Alarissa's cheek in return. As her eyes turn on Evander as she winks his way, "Lord Evander is the scholarly sort, and the best conversationalist you'll find." Then as Mikani calls to her she dips her head respectfully, "Countess Mikani, good to see you. Yes, the snow has been high of late." She then fingerwaves Rysen's way before she nods Evander's way. "Lets."

Taking a seat at the table, Valdemar glances around the room quietly, waiting patiently for the discussion to begin.

Rysen rises from his seat at the dais and, with a nod from Fianna, turns to address those in attendance: "Princes, Princesses, Lords, Ladies and people of the Compact, we welcome you to the Black Hall and thank you for joining us to honor the Sentinel." Rysen's grey eyes pass over those in attendance as he continues, "I would like to especially thank Princess Alarissa Thrax for helping to host this banquet, in order to see justice done and the Compact strengthened. Much has taken place between the Northlands and the Mourning Isles, and we hope to share council and find a path forward." He pauses a moment as servants ask each in attendance for his or her preferred drink. Rysen glances at Rukhnis who hands him a ram's horn filled with ale. When it seems like everyone has a drink in hand, Rysen raises the horn in toast and says loudly, "To the Sentinel! May He ever open our eyes to truth, and guide our hands to justice!" Rysen's voice resonates through the hall, and he takes a deep drink from the horn.

Evander has joined the southern section of a long blackwood table.

Brianna has joined the southern section of a long blackwood table.

Carita has joined the southern section of a long blackwood table.

Locating a glass of anything alcohol is not particularly difficult whilst even seated. That's where assistants prove ever helpful. Delilah gains a glass of whiskey from Scribble, who quietly approaches and delivers her drink to her in time for her to raise the drink in a toast. One softer spoken than most, distracted briefly by the conversation on the sofas.

Mikani smiles at Evander. "Yes Lord Evander. Countess." She nods as she greets Evander warmly with an actual curtsy. Emrys' lessons paying off. "It is wonderful to see you again as well." She stops talking as Rysen starts to speak from the dias. She raises her glass in the cheer before taking a seat.

Mikani has left the some comfortable chairs and a sofa near the hearth.

Mikani has joined the southern section of a long blackwood table.

Brianna looks up as Rysen toasts. "To the Sentinel!" she echoes, raising her own glass and drinking.

Braden has joined the northern section of a long blackwood table.

"To the Sentinel," Mirk echoes in a low, rumbling voice, raising his glass at the toast without a trace of hesitation. He takes a long pull of his whiskey after.

Ian drinks to the Northland lord's toast. Or just drinks at about the same time as everyone else is drinking. Probably it's the former, though.

When the servants come around asking which refreshments are preferred, Evander orders tea. It's not the sort of drink one easily toasts with, but he manages, with a sip and a murmured echo, "To the Sentinel."

?To the Sentinal,? Kaya says mildly but has no drink to toast with so it is fairly awkward

Braden raises his drink in a toast with everyone else.

"To the Sentinel," Irisa echoes, lifting her glass with it. The sip is elegant and small, like her movements. She has a confident quality that belies her low birth. A room of Peers does not seem to phase her any more than it had the prior night at the Salon.

Orrin gives a bow of his head, then lifts it. "To the Sentinel," he says, clearly.

Carita's opted for whiskey tonight, so when the toast is made, she lifts her class as everyone else does. "To the Sentinel."

Alarissa accepts the rams horn that's passed to her as well, filled with something alcoholic. As Rysen thanks her, the Princess Consort dips her head in respect to the Crovane lord then lifts her own horn in toast. "To Sentinal." She echo's before pressing her lips to the rim of said horn and taking a generous mouthful of liquid.

Peri raises her drink to the Sentinal. It's plain tea for this occasion. She wants a sober head.

Acantha raises her glass, "To the Sentinel." she states after Rysen does. She then takes a sip and then settles the mug down as she settles back in her chair and gives a smile.

Fianna is sitting in the center chair upon the elevated dais with both of her dogs lying down at her feet. She raises her mug after Rysen speaks and then toasts, "To the Sentinel." A polite smile is shared with Alarissa and Rysen nearby just before she swigs her whiskey, casting her gaze out at those gathered soon afterward.

Merek says, "To the Sentinel!"

Rysen sits down in a chair at Fianna's left hand, and says, "Please eat and drink to your heart's content, and, while we feast, I would like to invite anyone who wishes to speak about the events affecting our Houses to address those in attendance. For my part," says Rysen, frowning, "I am seeking those responsible for the death of my cousin, the former Duke, Asger Crovane. After a thorough investigation in Coastside, my allies and I discovered that the former thrall named Geoffrey Dampsail was the one who most likely put the poison in Asger's cup. The poison called Rotflower is rare and potent, and Lady Olivia Ashford has noted that it quickly loses its potency, and would have been incredibly expensive to produce and transport. It is apparently only found in the colder, rainy regions of the Mourning Isles." Rysen pauses a moment, and receiving the horn back from Alarissa, takes a long drink of ale, and then continues, saying, "Though Geoffrey Dampsail is dead, he was last seen with a sellsword named Garza, and a bard named Itzal Culler, both of whom also seem to be dead." He ceases speaking, and glances toward Rukhnis.

Rukhnis takes a single step forward, clearing her throat softly and raising her voice to speak -- a low and melodious sound with a carrying quality that allows it to be heard throughout the hall, though a husky roughness rather mars the effect. "Everyone has heard of the incident of Scholar Jonathan Grimkin, I am sure," she says, eyes passing over the crowd. "For those who may not recall the details, this man was he who took upon himself to write that Duke Asger's killing could be ascribed to the loss of traditions and morality throughout the Compact, a symptom of the kingdom's illness. A 'sign of moral decay', I believe were his exact words. Which is to say," she goes on, eyes narrowed, "that if Duke Asger was murdered, all the blame ultimately lies at the feet of those wishing to disrupt hallowed tradition, such as by the freeing of thralls." She presses her lips together briefly in cool distaste. "In any case, I believe this made him quite popular in certain parts of the Mourning Isles, and somewhat less so elsewhere. After some time of this notoriety he gained further fame still by being discovered murdered in an alleyway, with his fingers carved off and smile etched into his chest with the blade of a knife." A very faint grimace pulls at her mouth, as she appears to find this as disgusting as the assassination of Asger.

Intrigue, a sleek, diminutive raven with blue-black plumage arrives, following Willow.

Braden listens quietly as the topic of the the Late Duke Asger is discussed.

Orrin leans an elbow on the table, just so that he can have a better angle on those speaking there up on the dais. He doesn't look particularly surprised by any of the information offered thus far; his eyes turn to Princess Alarissa, perhaps to gauge her temperament at this point.

Acantha's eyes go up to the dias and there's a bit of a frown as they talk over the death of Asger and then the others involved. She gives a look to Orrin when he leans forward on the table, but she stays in her seat where she is. Listening to what is being announced.

Fianna bows her head as Rysen addresses those gathered with an update on Crovane affairs. When she lifts her head again, she's solemn as she dwells upon the memory of her late brother, Asger Crovane, and then takes a hearty swig of her drink after Rysen finishes speaking. She straightens in her chair and then glances at her dogs near her feet before looking sidelong at her cousin seated at her left, leaning close to murmur. And when Rukhnis steps forward, she receives a nod from the Duchess in reference to Scholar Jonathan Grimkin's words toward Asger. "House Crovane endures and we heal with the memory of Duke Asger in our hearts. Our future is bright as we strengthen our ties with the Compact and with the support of our friends in this very room."

Kaya is quietly watching and listening. Kaya is trying to do her best not to cause any sort of trouble today

Ian's expression is hard to read as he listens. The only certainty is that he's listening; his intense gaze moves constantly, taking in the people who speak, the people in the room.

Mikani nods with Fianna. "That is the only way we will heal from all of this is remembering that we are stronger as a Compact then we are as our individual Houses. That our uniqueness adds to the strength of the whole. Newer house or well established. We are all needed to keep the Compact whole." Mika raises her glass to Fianna in support.

4 Thrax Guards arrives, following Galen.

Sparte is basically sitting on his hands to avoid fidgeting as he listens to the various people speaking.

Braden raises his glass with Mikani.

Running a little late despite best attempts, Willow is meticulously put together when she arrives. She nods at Mikani's words and gives various small waves and nods to greet everyone she recognizes, lingering near the entrance for a moment as she mulls where to sit.

Peri gives a firm nod at Fianna and Mikani's words. Her expression is guarded as she tracks the discussion. Her focus moves form person to person judging where their sentiments lie.

Evander has a pad of paper by his side, making small notes. His gaze flickers between those on the dais, for the most part, attentive but largely expressionless as he listens -- not so much that any of what's said isn't news to him, but more like he's paying less attention to the words than the nuance of the back-and-forth sentiments.

Willow is overheard praising Mikani: That necklace is one of the loveliest pieces of jewelry I've ever seen.

Quietly, Primus returns to deliver a missive to Monique and the redhead looks alarmed. She rises with all due haste and distraction and silently slips from the hall.

Monique has left the some comfortable chairs and a sofa near the hearth.

Kit, the grey fox, Primus, First of Monique's Assistants, 1 Greenmarch Guard, Tertius, Third of Monique's Assistants, Quartus, Fourth of Monique's Assistants leave, following Monique.

Alarissa from her seat so kindly placed for her on the dias is a picture of calm as Rukhnis speaks, eyes settled on him. "House Thrax grieves for the loss of the dowager Duchess, her children and House Crovane. In a time of need, House Crovane aided the compact and Thrax in the rescue of Prince Venteri and brought him home to his people so that he could continue to fight. House Thrax does not condone the action of those who brought personal justice to the errant Scholar, nor do we hold to the words spoken by Scholar Grimkin. We endure a time of change, of necessary change that may be painful and filled with trials for ourselves and our people but we will see us guided through and emerge upon the other side of the stormy seas for the better and strengthened by the change. Anything worth doing is never easy."

Valdemar listens to the talk of Duke Asger's death, and that of Scholar Grimkin, with a furrowed brow. "Many know that I was not in favor of doing away with thralldom. I did not think it was a good idea, and made that clear anytime I spoke of it, particularly once the 'offers' were made by our foreign guests. That said, the decision has been made, and anyone looking to blame an assassination on the loss of that tradition is, at best, providing a flimsy excuse for dishonorable behavior. I don't condone murder, but Jonathon Grimkin's death was far from shocking given what he had to say about Duke Asger's killing. I am pleased to hear that at least some of those involved in that incident have been found out. Are there any further leads on finding out who put this...Master Dampsail up to it?" he addresses the dais, glancing between those sitting there.

A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Brianna before departing.

There is a tight-lipped turn of Orrin's attention from Alarissa to Valdemar, who he studies rather closely as he speaks. He doesn't seem to be deriving much satisfaction from any of the news, here, but he does turn his attention back to those on the dais to hear how they answer the Duke.

"That is what I am hoping we can find out Duke Valdemar," says Rysen. "I agree with your assessment of his likilihood of being killed given what he was doing, but I was hoping that someone here may have more information, and, if not, perhaps to request the aid of Sparte Grayfellow, Sir Merek Black, or others who may be affiliated with the Iron Guard, have contacts with the scholars, or have skill in investigation." Rysen's expression remains dark, as he finishes the ale in his horn and hands it back to Rukhnis. "It is hard to believe that Grimkin was without contacts with those who have been pulling strings. His killers may lead us to the puppetmasters."

Sorrel has joined the southern section of a long blackwood table.

Acantha listens in a bit of a way that means she's taking quiet notes, but she doesn't comment on anything that is said just yet. She is polite and doesn't interrupt the conversation going on.

Braden looks to rysen as he speaks. "Lord Rysen. I am not skilled in any of those things, but I can offer my shield to Duchess Fianna, You, and anyone you have who are looking in to these things, as that in it's self sounds like it could be dangerous business."

Mikani looks between those at the dias. "I can help to look into it. I am a Scholar and have a knack for finding out information. If I can get what has been found out before I can go from there." Mika offers to help bring peace to her former home.

Accepting Rysen's alehorn, and her own speaking part evidently played to its conclusion, Rukhnis bows herself into the background once again and resumes her typecast role of silent shadow.

Irisa continues to listen in silence, content to watch the group and their opinions. Valdemar's draws her gaze, eyes flicking to Orrin, then back to who is speaking as the conversation flows.

"As soon as I am able I offer my bow and blade as well to help in this matter," Kaya says mildly before returning to her quiet observation of the event happening

Peri has left the some comfortable chairs and a sofa near the hearth.

Peri has joined the northern section of a long blackwood table.

Brianna rises. "I don't claim any special knowledge or expertise, but if you have any problems that can be solved with an axe, consider it done."

Ian leans forward and says something in a low voice, probably directed at Sparte.

Willow has joined the some comfortable chairs and a sofa near the hearth.

When people begin speaking of ways they can help, Peri moves to sit with her father.

Merek looks up a lil' bit when mentioned, then he nods to Rysen from the hood of his cloak, "The Guard stands to assist, as do Scholars, if we are requested by the Houses to do so first," he says, with a light bow to the man.

Evander clears his throat briefly, and on the heels of Mikani's offer, adds, "I can help, or lead, an investigation if need be," though his voice is quiet enough that the offer might be as much to Mikani as the room in general.

Fianna nods after Mikani speaks and shares a faint smile with her in appreciation for her support within the gathered crowd. As Fianna's gaze casts toward Alarissa and then Valdemar, she listens to one after the other speak about the current topics at hand before looking over at Braden. There's another grateful smile given to him and then to Kaya and Brianna for their offered assistance.

A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Willow before departing.

Delilah's writing is a constant through the meeting, the sweep of calligraphy occasionally interrupted by geometric designs dragged up the edge of the page. A continuous ripple of movement she breaks only to shake out her wrist, or occasionally use more ink. Though her gaze narrows for a moment.

"Duke Asger was a friend to house Grimhall, as I am sure he was to many others. I have little skill as an investigator personally, but if there is anything that we can do to aid in the efforts to bring his assassins and those behind them to justice, please reach out and let me know," Valdemar offers in response to Rysen's answer for him.

Galen must have slipped in quirky and not far behind his wife whom he spotted taking a seat. He would take note of those gathered and anyone who noticed him would receive a friendly smile and a respectful nod.

Galen has joined the southern section of a long blackwood table.

"We only know that it grows in some colder and rainy isles," says Rysen in reply to Alarissa question about the poison used to murder Asger, "though I was hoping someone here might know more. If not, I was hoping to get your permission to sail in search of it, possibly with the help of an experienced mariner like Countess Mikani or Admiral Peri."

When Peri comes over, Orrin briefly gives her his attention - a look, no words exchanged - before he looks back up at the dais. "Colder, rainy isles," he says. "Which would those be? Perhaps with all that are gathered here, we might determine who best to lead the effort to discover how such an expensive and volatile poison has managed to make its way to the Crownlands."

Ian clears his throat and raises his voice enough to be heard in the room. "A good place to start might be the seat of House Waterdeep."

A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Brianna before departing.

Ian clears his throat and raises his voice enough to be heard in the room. "A good place to start might be the seat of House Waterdeep." (re, because Mikani hasn't done enough laughing yet tonight. :P)

Sparte considers what Ian says to him. He straighens and attempts a crooked smile, expression shifting to somber before his lips flicker upwards in an attempt at a smile that is even more short lived. Settled on somber, he quietly speaks up. "Lord Rysen asked me to come and speak on the Sentinel's Justice. I don't know that I can. Justice, law, and tradition are three things that we want to overlap. We hope overlaps. Yet we don't get it right, not always." Sparte gives a small shake of his head. "There are statues in the Hall of Heroes that champion those who fought wars with words and deception, rather than sword and faith." Sparte winces. "And I fear the battles we're facing are much like those. People twisting beliefs, infiltration of institutions, and betrayals from within."

Sparte continues. "In the wake of the Battle for the Lodge of Petrichor, I learned of evidence that those associated with the enemies we faces were conspiring against those in the Mourning Isles. We took that to heart, and many acted. Using that information we found attempts at sending poisoned medicines to allies, groups of cultists doing abyssal acts, and efforts to track the movements of merchants and military vessels both in the isles. Yet all o that only scratches the surface of what is going on, and much was beyond what I could've predicted. I've heard of similar issues all across the Compact, I've traveled more than I've been here in Arx trying to help stem what we're facing. We've even found threats here within Arx itself." Sparte sighs, the anxiety he'd been holding in flooding out with the words he is saying and leaving him deflated. "We will always be divided in some of our beliefs and traditions, and we're seeing those divisions used as weapons against us. I believe they can instead be our strength. The tactics we face arn't new, the challenges we face arn't new, the question is only if we've the mettle to see ourselves made stronger by these perils or left in tatters." Sparte seems to be out of words, eyes shifting towards the fire. "Sorry. I'd been trying to speak up for a while and it sort of all spilled out. I'm done."

Peri is overheard praising Sparte.

Ian adds to what Sparte says: "I've seen some of this, too. We rousted the troublemakers who'd been dispatched to Stormward only a month or so ago, and Prince Galen had me protecting someone who was looking into the issue in the Thrax ward."

The offers of help from many in attendance cause Rysen to smile with relief, and several members of the household guard, along with Deor drum their fists on the table, producing a rolling thunder throughout the hall to show their support.

Rysen nods to Orrin, and listens to Alarissa. "You are right, Your Highness," he says in reply. "Yet I feel that knowing the origin of such a rare type of poison couldn't hurt our chances of finding one who could even know it well enough to make use of it. Neverless, I will follow the advice of you, your husband and the leadership of the Mourning Isles." When Ian speaks, Rysen turns his gaze to the Lord of Kennex with great curiosity. Rysen turns to listen to Sparte as he speaks, and accepting another horn of ale from Rukhnis, raises it in toast.

Kaya casts a glance to Sparte when he speaks about the Lodge but does not add anything yet

Irisa flicks her eyes to Sparte as he begins. As he continues, her gaze drops a bit but there is a warmth to smile that begins to spread. Like a weight off her shoulders. As he finishes, she lifts her chin and smiles at him, lifting her glass as if it were a willingness to raise her sword alongside him.

Valdemar frowns at the mention of house Waterdeep. "Though I would hope that our vassals were not involved, they /are/ among those most upset by the changes being made. That said, if any efforts to investigate these matters take those looking into it into the lands of house Waterdeep or house Grimkin, I will be happy to arrange an escort so that there are no further incidents along the way to a resolution. They will find me to be no shield from justice to hide behind," the Duke offers to those sitting at the dais.

A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Rysen before departing.

Acantha gives a look over those assembled and then up to the dias, "Your highness, my Lord Rysen, if there is anyway that House Clearlake can help in the situation, please just let us know. While I am not the most skilled with research, my diplomatic and social skills are at your disposal." she tells them with a dip of her head.

Orrin seems at least modestly mollified by the words Rysen and Valdemar speak, and nods before listening to his daughter. He nods to her, and gestures like to encourage her to speak aloud.

Remaining quiet to merely listen to every word spoken, Willow takes a small plate, eschewing any alcohol as she takes small bites, focus drifting from face to face with the flow of speech.

"You have my ship, should you need her," Peri anounces to Rysen. "I also offer what military adjuncts and resources I can provide. I'll have nothing endanger our peoples." She looks to Crovane and Thrax.

Peri adds, "Endanger or separate."

Willow claps a few times to underscore her appreciation of Peri's words.

Alarissa looks to Valdemar and Ian, then to Rysen. "It will be found, the locations, without a need to sail ships through the waters of the isles and potentially provoke unecessarily." A look to the gathered. "The names of holdings that may or may not possess the bloom should not be bandied about. To do so might bring unwarranted attention and retribution by those who take matters into their own hands with no regard for the validity of it and bring danger and harm to those who are most likely innocent."

Irisa looks back to Alarissa with the mention of which houses aren't to be named. She nods, taking a long and quiet breath. Turning slightly, she slowly paces a few steps while her eyes look to the wine stem held in both hands.

Mikani looks at Damien with a bit of surprise as he leans to whisper something to her. She even laughs softly before she nods and thanks the man and goes back to her table conversation.

Rysen nods respectfully to Valdemar. "Your words are most appreciated, Duke Valdemar. You have my thanks." Rysen takes another sip of ale, and nods to Alarissa, saying "I understand your concerns, Your Highness, and we will leave such matters to those who are best suited to such an investigation - such is the trust we have in you, House Kennex and House Grimhall." Rysen pauses a moment and then sadly continues saying, "There is also the matter of the wedding party massacre that also took the life of a Marquessa of House Longwood. The poison used was the same as that which killed Asger. Houses Crackneck and Longwood have gone to war with House Warwynd of the Mourning Isles, and suffered a massive defeat. Now the conflict is escalating, and coastal villages in the Northlands are being raided, and Thraxian merchants are being attacked. If there is anyone with information related to these or any related matters, we would appreciate anything you might be able to tell us. It is also my hope that we might begin to systematically work to put an end to this conflict as soon as possible, and I have some suspicion that these murders and conflicts can be traced back to an individual or small group of conspirators, and any peace we may achieve will likely be fragile until they are rooted out and brought to justice."

Orrin gives a gesture, the sort of lifted finger thing that is sort of universal body language for I've-got-something-to-say. When acknowledged, he rises. "With appreciation for this venue - these assassinations are not all to come out of this effort. At Pearlspire, we started vetting refugees when I realized what a tempting moment it would be to undermine momentum with another vivid murder or somethiing. And we discovered a group of so-called ex-thrall blood cultists from a tribe called Heartsworn come to our shores. Pearlspire is populated with a great many familiar with Islander customs, having come from thralldom - and most were incredibly surprised to see Heartsworn 'thralls' come. Apparently they are considered too dangerous by MOST Thrax Houses to take as thralls, and typically executed rather than pressed into service." There's a press of lips like this is somehow a whole other thread, but he goes on. "If any Islander houses would like to jointly investigate who is capturing these sorts and releasing them to undermine reforms, our house and its resources will be with you."

Peri is overheard praising Orrin.

Willow is overheard praising Orrin.

Ian straightens again. "I might be able to help you with that," he says to Orrin.

A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Brianna before departing.

A moment after Ian speaks up, Evander does, too: "I will be happy to assist, as well," nodding towards his cousin and then the Count.

Irisa hears what Orrin has to say and stops. She lifts her gaze directly to him and others looking to offer help. Dark eyes flick around the room as if reading the temperature.

Mikani is overheard praising Orrin.

Mikani is overheard praising Valdemar.

Mikani is overheard praising Rysen.

Mikani is overheard praising Fianna.

Acantha is overheard praising Orrin: For the offer of help.

Acantha is overheard praising Alarissa.

After listening to Orrin, Valdemar considers for a moment before speaking up, "I will see what house Grimhall can do. As I said earlier, I am no great investigator, but perhaps someone amongst my family is." His brow remains furrowed as he grows quiet again.

Kaya is still quietly listening

Willow has left the some comfortable chairs and a sofa near the hearth.

Intrigue, a sleek, diminutive raven with blue-black plumage have been dismissed.

Ian returns Evander's nod, and sinks into a slouch again. He takes a drink, then leans towards Delilah and speaks with her in a low voice.

Alarissa remains quiet on the dias, eyes flicking to each individual as they speak, lingering her gaze on Orrin before nodding to the information given.

Mikani sips her rum as she listens to the others talk.

Rysen frowns at the dark news from Orrin, but there is a glimmer of hope in his grey eyes. He rises from his seat, and says, "That is bleak news, Count Orrin, but it seems there are many willing to help, and paths forward have begun to form. If anyone comes across information related to aught that we have discussed tonight, please don't hesitate to contact me or anyone else you trust. Unity and trust is the Compact's greatest strength, and our best means of bringing the guilty to justice under the Sentinel." Rysen raises his horn in toast. "Thank you again for coming, and though we have our troubles and our labors ahead, let us enjoy ourselves together, share fellowship, and strengthen our bonds of friendship. Let any who wish to dance have music - and let any who wish to partake in the Northlands tradition of arm wrestling move to the southern end of the table." The Crovane lord nods to the musicians who begin to play a traditional Northlands dance melody, and servants move to clear the south end of the blackwood table for any who wish to test their strength.

Peri is overheard praising Rysen.

Rysen is overheard praising Orrin.

Rysen is overheard praising Alarissa.

Rysen is overheard praising Fianna.

Rysen is overheard praising Valdemar.

Rysen is overheard praising Acantha.

Rukhnis is so quiet and dark and still that it's easy to forget she's there at all, unless one happens to feel the force of her gaze settle on them as it flicks intently about the room, fastening briefly but keenly on the members of the crowd, whether speaking aloud or whispering or merely listening like herself. As Rysen announces the end of the more formal part of the gathering she looks briefly towards him as well, but appears just as vigilant as ever.

Rysen has left the an elevated dais.

Orrin bows his head at Rysen's words, then rolls his shoulders before leaning over toward his daughter. "Now that that's done," he says, "would you mind finding me a drink?" There's a chuckle, there, and a certain warmth shared with those at his end of the long table.

Rysen has joined the southern section of a long blackwood table.

Rukhnis has left the an elevated dais.

Acantha is overheard praising Rysen.

Braden stands, raises his glass once more and smiles before taking a drink. He approaches the Dias containing the Crovanes, but waits at the bottom with a smile.

Rysen wanders over to the southern end of the blackwood table where a place has been cleared for arm wrestling, and sits down across from Brianna. He places his right elbow on the table and says, "Care for a challenge, My Lady?" A slow grin spreads across his face. He glances at Carita with a chuckle.

When it's announced there will be armwrestling where he's seated, Evander is quick to close his notebook and tuck it away, not even finishing his tea. "Nor I," he murmurs to Carita as he stands.

Carita has left the southern section of a long blackwood table.

Evander has left the southern section of a long blackwood table.

Irisa finally steps from the edge of the room, wine still held in both hands. She smiles brightly as she approaches Orrin. The expression seems a more natural and rested visage for her. "Count Orrin, m'Lord," she greets. "So good to see you here. Your note surprised me, but in a delightful way. Thank you for the invitation." Her eyes glance over towards Brianna and the challenge being offered before she looks back to Orrin.

Acantha has left the northern section of a long blackwood table.

Braden has left the northern section of a long blackwood table.

Rukhnis takes up a spot by the wall closest to Rysen, while maintaining a distinct space between herself and the incipient arm wrestling match. Her selected post has also given her a good view of the entire room, which she continues to watch with a more thoughtful air now, hands still folded neatly behind her back.

Peri holds her father's arm a moment and then gets up to look at the drinks available. There are many drinks to choose from. She picks through some rum until she finds one that is crystal clear. She brings back a generous serving to her father and stands with her hand on his shoulder for some time.

Carita rises from her seat, leaving her drink to be collected behind her. "If this is the spot for arm wrestling, my arms are far too precious to be removed tonight. Plus, all the wardrobe alterations.." She shakes her head. "Not this time, Lord Rysen."

Merek offers a light wave to Rukh, while he listens to Rysen, he's mostly quiet and a bit thoughtful also.

"A challenge," Kaya questions, glancing over at Rysen. "What sort of challenge?"

"Dame Irisa," Orrin says, taking that drink from Peri when she delivers it and giving his daughter a smile before returning attention. "Your notes on leadership at the salon were quite creditable. I hope that wisdom is put to proper use." His eyes flick toward the arm wrestling, which summons amusement to his face; he sips at his rum.

Acantha rises from where she was sitting after quite nods are given to everyone, her cloak laying over one arm. She then heads down towards the southern end of the table and there's an amused look between Rysen and Brianna, "Good luck, my Lady." she grins to the redhead. Then she's taking a moment to pull her cloak on and she gives a look down to Benny, "Ready to go my friend?" she asks him.

Rysen glances at Kaya. "It's called arm wrestling. Along with tug of war, it's a time honored pastime amongst warriors in the Northlands," he says with a smile. "The goal is to display one's strength and will by forcing the one's opponents hand to the table."

Rukhnis's attention focuses on Merek just long enough to return a courteous inclination of her head in response to his wave.

Brianna grins. She cracks her knuckles, squaring her elbow on the table. "Let's have it, then."

"I accept," Kaya states mildly, moving slowly to stand up and draw closer to to Rysen, waiting her turn

Peri leaves her father's side and begins to speak to people. "Lord Evander, I have a book for you." Peri talks with Evander as she hands a book to him.

Ian seems engaged enough at the couches, talking to Sparte and, in a softer voice, with Delilah. He snorts once, an expression of dry, dark humor.

Brianna checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 16 higher.

Mikani waves at Rukhnis. "How are you Rukhnis?" She says warmly to the woman. "It's been a long time since I've seen you."

Peri takes Sigils of Arvum, Volume X - Beyond Arvum from a pack from Pearlspire.

Rysen checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 19 higher.

Rukhnis's gaze shifts over to Mikani, and she offers a bow of respect to her. "Countess Mikani," she greets the woman. "I am well enough. I hope that this night finds you better still."

Benny The Beaver leaves, following Acantha.

Delilah has left the some comfortable chairs and a sofa near the hearth.

1 Inquisition Confessors, Scribble, a Delicate Social Butterfly, Pearl, a Maelstrom Forest Cat leave, following Delilah.

Rysen and Brianna clasp hands, and says, "Ready?" As soon as the Lady of House Halfshav begins to apply pressure, the two press with all of their strength. The contest is very close, but Rysen manages to force her hand to the table - barely. "Gods and spirits, you're strong!" says Rysen to Brianna.

Irisa smiles demurely and shakes her head to Orrin's words. "Anyone can speak to a topic. The true test is what we do when we are put in a position to make a difference and have to uphold those words. Perhaps my day will come. I appreciate the vote of confidence, as well. It means a lot." Especially to a commoner knight. "What you said tonight was quite impassioned. I'd like to speak to you about how I can offer to help when you have time for that dinner."

Brianna grunts, frowning. "Best of three," she says simply.

Mikani watches them. "I'll take winner." She says to Brianna and Rysen.

Kaya smirks, still waiting her turn at this rate Rysen will be to tired to beat her

Rysen laughs warmly! "Agreed! and then winner gets Kaya the Wolverine!" he says, starting to feel much better as the alcohol and athletic endeavors take hold of his senses.

Brianna checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 48 higher.

Rysen checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 25 higher.

Evander carefully pulls his coat around him, giving a tiny smile to Carita as she declines to arm-wrestle. He brightens as he spots Peri's approach. "Lady Peri, or should I say Admiral Peri. It is good to see you -- and congratulations," he murmurs. Surprise is visible when she hands him a book, and admiration, too, for said book, carefully holding it. "That is very kind of you," he says, quickly.

Ian settles back in his chair and his hand flits to his chest for a moment. He takes a slow breath.

Mirk rises to his feet, drains the last of his glass of whiskey, and sets the glass aside. He heads over to Rysen and Brianna, commenting to the former, "My thanks for the invitation, though I think I'll be heading out. May your search be fruitful." To the latter, "Brianna. Kick his ass." That said, he starts towards the door.

Orrin starts to have another sip, but pauses, tips his head in consideration. "You know, despite the banquet laid, I haven't eaten yet. The lady of our house prepared roast goose - my favorite - before I told her that I'd an event to attend. Would you perhaps like to join me for it?" He rises, posture suggestive of an offer of escort.

Orrin is speaking to Irisa there. Mysteries unveiled.

This time, Brianna is ready for him. She grits her teeth and strains against him, and Rysen's hand hits the table with a thunk. Someone's drink goes flying. Whoops.

"Thank you, Lord Mirk," says Rysen, through grit teeth as he rubs his arm after having it smashed on the table.

Rysen checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 15 higher.

Brianna checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 19 higher.

Rukhnis follows the trajectory of the flying drink in reverse, watching with slightly narrowed eyes as Rysen is evidently working on having his arm melded forcefully with the table. She lets out a very quiet breath of a sigh and gives a tiny shake of her head.

Irisa does seem surprised again and the smile is delighted all over again. An arm offered in escort almost brings a blush to her. Almost. "Thank you," she says quietly, almost looking like she might giggle. Dreamy-eyed dork. She takes the offered arm and grins. "I'd love to! I'm not entirely sure what I can do, but.. I have some experience with some more criminal types so maybe?" She shrugs impishly and looks past him to the sudden winning from Brianna. Holy smokes n fire! "Wow."

Kaya checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 24 higher.

Brianna checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 29 higher.

"Gods and spirits, Lady Brianna!" shouts Rysen after getting his arm smashed to the table again. He grins happily at Mikani as he rises from his place to give Kaya a round with Brianna.

Peri cocks an imaginary Admiral's hat at Evander. It maches her cocked brow. She thanks him for his contratulations and dicussing citation stiles and then announces to the room at large, "I would like to arm wrestle!" She looks for a partner.

Braden nods at Peri

Mikani laughs, "I'm waiting Peri. I will wrestle ya!"

"Peri," Orrin says, an affectionate parting for his daughter as he heads away with Irisa. He has the affect of someone who has escorted the blushing sorts before; of course, he has a grown daughter, sooooo. "Just one moment," he says to Irisa as he draws close to Mirk. "Lord Mirk," he says. "If I could defer that conversation until tomorrow - I would very much like to discuss the recent escort with you further." He smiles, and bows briefly, there.

Brianna laughs at Rysen, flexing and kissing her own bicep. "Well fought, my lord!" She nods to Kaya. "Who wants to wrestle me when I win this one?" Pompous ass.

Braden smiles, "I am not that strong, but if this is a Northern Tradition, I should like to try it."

Turning to Rukhnis, Rysen passes her his ale horn and says, "Stonedeep whiskey, please." He comes to stand behind Mikani, and smiles at Peri, before his eyes shift to see the contest between Kaya and Brianna.

Rysen has left the southern section of a long blackwood table.

Lygeia, a calligrapher and alchemist have been dismissed.

Deor, a young swordsman have been dismissed.

Mikani has left the southern section of a long blackwood table.

1 Redoubt Buccaneers, Damien Pierce - A Charming Assistant, 1 Redreef Warden, Vagari - Cinder Kitten, 1 Obsidian Order, 4 Byrne Mountain Men leave, following Mikani.

Lygeia, a calligrapher and alchemist, Deor, a young swordsman, Mikani arrive, following Rysen.

Mirk lingers, long enough to confer with Orrin, and claps the man on the shoulder. "Of course. Send me a messenger, and we'll sit down," he promises, before continuing on his way out the door.

Kaya is silent when she sits to take Brianna's arm. She puts up a good effort but Brianna does in fact win. "Best of three," she questions mildy

Peri shouts from nearby, "Mika!"

"I... don't..." Evander begins before he realizes Peri's not, thankfully, offering to wrestle him. He instead folds his arms carefully around the book.

Brianna nods. "Of course, my lady. Fair's fair. " She squares up and prepares for the next bout.

Fianna gets up and steps down from the dais to venture outside for a brief moment. Her dogs follow her closely and she will return in just a few minutes to mingle and enjoy the rest of the night with friends.

Rysen has joined the southern section of a long blackwood table.

Mirk has left the some comfortable chairs and a sofa near the hearth.

1 Crimson Blades Sergeant, Aegis, a large red Oakhaven bloodhound, Rurik, a prodigal assistant leave, following Mirk.

Fianna has left the an elevated dais.

Mack, a sable Northern Shepherd, Bruno, an energetic Wolfhound, 4 House Crovane Guards leave, following Fianna.

Mikani has joined the southern section of a long blackwood table.

Brianna checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 23 higher.

Kaya checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 3 higher.

Alarissa says in Marin'alfar, "Be well Duchess." Alarissa offers to the departing Duchess and taking a glass of something to drink from a nearby servant, she sips and watches the arm wrestling quietly."

Peri has left the northern section of a long blackwood table.

Peri has joined the southern section of a long blackwood table.

"Be well Duchess." Alarissa offers to the departing Duchess and taking a glass of something to drink from a nearby servant, she sips and watches the arm wrestling quietly.

Ian angles his head towards the sofas, a silent invitation for Evander to join him there. Away from the arm wrestling. Which for some reason he's not elected to join.

Orrin slips out with Irisa, probably having made mental notes of who to pester down the line.

Orrin has left the northern section of a long blackwood table.

Irisa leaves, following Orrin.

Kaya the second time Kaya tries to move Brianna's arm but is is a failed attempt to even budge it slightly. "Last chance," she says mildly

Braden sits opposite Brianna with a grin. Elbow hits the table. "Shall we."

Rukhnis bows slightly to Rysen as he hands off the latest empty alehorn to her and makes her way over to a keg of whiskey on the opposite side of the room. She pauses for a moment after filling the vessel, her gaze passing once more over the room with a faintly pensive expression as she listens to Lygeia playing on the harp nearby.

Evander catches Ian's gesture, and with a glance at Carita, murmurs, "I'm going to have a chat with Ian, if you'd care to join?" he offers, as he steps towards the seats by the hearth.

Evander has joined the some comfortable chairs and a sofa near the hearth.

Kaya checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 24 higher.

Brianna laughs. "That was best of three. If you want to hold my hand so badly, buy me drinks first, Lady Kaya."

"Always," answers Peri. She looks at the other arm wrestlers in an attempt to see how this game is played. "Elbows like this?" She plants her arm and holds it out for Mikani.

Peri checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 16 higher.

Mikani nods to Peri as she gets her elbow on the table and grasps Peri's hand. "And go!"

Mikani checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 25 higher.

Rysen stifles a laugh at Brianna's remark and nods to Kaya. "You did well." He glances back towards Rukhnis, muttering under his breath, but his attention is quickly drawn to Peri and Mikani as they begin their contest.

Brianna upnods to Braden. "Yes. Let's." She clasps her hand with his and begins the battle.

Brianna checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 35 higher.

Braden checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 27 higher.

Ian gives Evander JUST enough time to sit down before leaning forward and talking to him (really, talking at him, at least initially) in a low voice.

Braden grunts as his arm gets pushed, "I hope I get two out of three as well?" A grin

Mikani presses Peri's hand onto the table. "Again." Mikani says warmly as she sets up again waiting to hold Peri's hand.

"I like to buy drinks for my lovers after the fact," Kaya states mildly. She then offers Rysen a bow of her head. "You are far to kind to me My Lord, Thank you," she says

Rukhnis seems to catch Rysen's glance from all the way across the room and, snapping back to attention, quickly makes her way back over to him, offering the whiskey with a deeper bow than before -- perhaps in apology for having been so tardy in returning.

Peri checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 21 higher.

Brianna grins across the table at Braden. "I thought Oathlanders were born with a greatsword in each hand. You can do better than that!"

Braden checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 33 higher.

Brianna checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 48 higher.

Mikani checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 50 higher.

Rysen gratefully accepts the whiskey from Rukhnis and takes a sip. He moves to set it on the table, and then glancing at Brianna, thinks the better of it, and hands it to Deor instead. Turning to Rukhnis, Rysen says, "Care for a dance, Rukhnis?" he asks, glancing from his dark eyed retainer to the open space in front of Lygeia and the musicians of the Bard's College.

Peri's loss does not phase her and she plants her arm again. She does well, better than before, but it is not enough to withstand Mikani's might.

Braden struggles harder but still gets dropped, a loud grunt, "I said I wasn't that strong. That is why it takes both hands to use my greatsword."

Rukhnis raises her eyebrows at Rysen, a bit dubiously, but only says, "If you wish for one, Lord Rysen." Her tone expresses the idea that there must be other people in the room far more suitable than her to dance with, but far be it from her to undutifully object.

Mikani murmurs something to Rysen before the match starts. She easily takes Peri down. "Well I think I get to go up against Brianna ...." She looks at Peri for a moment. "Need something for the arm?"

Rysen checked dexterity + performance at difficulty 15, rolling 41 higher.

Brianna reaches across the table to clap her free hand Braden's upper arm. "Well fought," she says to the Laurent, meeting his gaze and nodding. "Come on over here, Mika. Let's see what you've got.

"Thank you for inviting me Lord Rysen. I am feeling a bit tired, I will see you again soon I hope," Kaya says mildly before she watches him lead Rukhnis to dance

"I'll stretch it out. It'll be fine," Peri tells Mikani. Peri calls off at any more arm wrestling and heads over to the hearth area. Perhaps to speak to Ian and Evander.

Peri has left the southern section of a long blackwood table.

Peri has joined the some comfortable chairs and a sofa near the hearth.

Mikani laughs and moves to sit across from Brianna. "Now remember if you hold my hand too long Brianna ... you're gonna have to buy me dinner." She winks at Brianna before putting up her arm.

Rukhnis checked dexterity + performance at difficulty 15, rolling 21 higher.

Mikani checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 32 higher.

Brianna checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 18 higher.

Brianna gasps in mock offense. "But my lady, you're a /married woman/!" That moment of sass was enough for Mika to have the advantage, and she gets slammed on the table. "I deserved that."

"Take care, Kaya, and thank you for being here," he says, as he walks with Rukhnis over to a space before the musicians. Rysen gazes ruefully at Rukhnis. "Lygeia's playing one of my favorites," he admits, as he takes Rukhnis's hand and places his other hand on her waist. The two begin to step in time with the music, moving with grace and fluidity, and a slight smile appears on Lygeia's lips as her fingers move across the strings of the blackwood harp.

Kaya has left the some comfortable chairs and a sofa near the hearth.

Mikani laughs, "I'm a Widow." She shakes her head. "Again." She lifts her arm up.

Brianna checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 13 higher.

Mikani checked strength + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 16 higher.

Rukhnis twitches a little at that touch to her waist, the faintest pained look crossing her face, but at the same she steps gracefully enough into the dance, if perhaps not with such exuberance as she might have shown at other times. She also tilts her head a little to one side as she and Rysen begin to move about the floor, as if taking particular note of the melody flowing from the harp.

Mikani slams Brianna's hand down on the table after a bit of a back and forth between the two. "Good show!"

Ian snorts, and makes a soft huffing sound that might be a laugh.

Brianna grimaces. "I must be getting tired," she says, pressing her lips together. "Well fought, Mika."

Mikani smiles as she watches Rukhnis and Rysen dance. She finishes her rum. Her eyes move back to Brianna. "Excuses? Not very like you Bri." She laughs softly and orders the woman a whiskey.
