Dear Garrion,
Have you ever woken from sleep to find yourself in another world? Have you ever known a moment of disassociation so intense you cannot recall who you are, who you were, or who you are supposed to be? Have you ever dreamed so vividly it felt like another life?
I have, perhaps, been reading too many fanciful stories again. My imagination is as a bonfire is, prone to catch at the smallest spark, to burn with fervent flame, consuming the fuel used to douse it until naught but ash remains.
The carriage arrived in Arx last evening, but I was so exhausted by the journey, I could do little save allow myself to be led to a Valor bedchamber within the Ward of House Grayson, where I collapsed into bed after a perfunctory toilette.
Arx is daunting, Garrion, and while I know the city is crawling with Graysons, I feel more alone here than I have ever done before. I know mother and father sent me for good reason. I am of age now, and here is where I belong. Still, I cannot help but feel abandoned.
I know nothing. I know not who to speak with to acquire clothing suitable for my station. I know not how to make myself useful. I know not which of my family members might be willing to even speak with me, let alone help me acclimatize myself to this world of overt interaction.
It was simpler at home, where I was shrouded by the shadow of my siblings. That canopy of near invisibility is gone, now. For once, I am noticeable.
And it terrifies me.
For once, I am the one who must reach out first.
I am not even certain I know how.
I miss you. I wish you could write back.

I was reading some journals today and was thinking "My goodness, I think the same way!" and for a moment my heart soared into believing that out there somewhere was someone who thought like me. Then I saw that they were my own journals.

While there is nothing wrong with a vow of chastity. And, of course, I admire the restraint one must surely have to be able to hold to that ideal, I would not want anyone to have the wrong impression.
