I sometimes wonder if doing nice things is worth the effort. It involves dealing with people.

It is not the Fallen King that is the most dangerous to the Compact. It is ourselves.

TO THE MARQUESSA OF BLANCBIER, MARQUIS OF GREENHAVEN, AND MARQUIS OF CLOUDSPINE,

GREETINGS:

Your liege, Duke Arn Telmar, Duke of the Telmarch, recalling the First Law of Limerance and the sworn oaths that each of you has taken before Limerance, calls upon each of you to render service to the Telmarch and to the Compact. You are bid to summon your banners and commit them to a campaign against the Pirate King calling himself "the Gyre" as may be directed by your liege and commanders.

The threat we face, as you know, is to the East and to the South. You may ask why this conflict is ours. But I recall another who was told that the problems to the East were not hers to fight: The great Dame Sugan. In her time, every other knight and lord believed that the East was doomed at the Reckoning was not their fight.

"The East will fall without us, you'll stay as honor demands. This Reckoning is not of our making -- So 'hold fast'," they were told.

But Dame Sugan -- crimson-haired and aspect fierce -- strode as if to war. Her rallying cry: "We ride for Arx, to save the East." From that cry, Valardin's forces realized that the Reckoning was upon them and they rode to smash the blight.

I do not know if this is the next Reckoning. But I do know that we have the immense privilege to follow in the steps of those who rode by Dame Sugan's side. Gather your men, launch your ships, and sail and march with us in defense of the East and the Compact.

In the name of the Duke,

Lord Corban Telmar
Voice of Telmar
"Fear no enemy."

Relationship Note on Ashkyr

It is good to have my brother back in the swing of things. Witnessing his more social side in the morn in the presence of gentry was melancholy, almost akin to times of old.

Let not the mainland winds redden your cheeks too much, hm? It's a rather unbecoming colour on you, darling brother.

Why, yes, I will be buying drinks for anyone sworn to the Oathlands in a few days. Why do you ask? Why... because I can. Don't question cranky pregnant duchess-consorts.

I've had the shop open again for just over a week. And it's brought back a lot of friends that I haven't seen since I closed it up, and a lot of new customers who have provided good insight, conversation, and stories.

The city has also surprised me; with the number of smiths who work on armor, few of them are inclined towards teaching. It is, perhaps, not the strangest thing - all of them are very skilled, and with the number of them, apprentices don't seem to be a common need. But, I've managed to pick up a few tips and tricks, and can now work high quality steel into armor that i would not be ashamed to put my name on.

Contemplating changing the name to Seaborn Armory, to reflect the new ability to offer customers protection as well as weapons. I'll put some more thought into it, first.

It was a beautiful evening out, so I decided to take advantage of it with a few vassals and some of the servants.

The Lady Catalana Kennex stopped by to see me, it warms my heart to know that she is with her husband, and I hope they're both very happy. She and I are going to get together at some point in the near future to do some girly things.

I also met a pair of sisters, Echo and Astraea and my goodness are they fierce. It is quite intimidating to watch these women so casually with their large metal swords, they call me graceful, but true grace is someone who can move so fluidly with such a large weapon.

Ah, and Lord Michael Bisland, it is nice to see him again, I will admit. I had almost forgotten him as the years dimmed my memories, but he's back again so I suppose that splash of color won't do me any harm.

Mayhaps I will sit outside and socialize again soon. It sure was a learning experience.

I'm remembering.

From not many, five were chosen.
From thirteen, five were blessed.
From five, four triads and one then known.
From one, five empowered against the End of All.

The beginning of my song was so promising, it would be a shame to let it get lost.

There once was a knight with a quill
and gardening oft was his will...

I think it has promise as a drinking song. I'll have to sort out the rest.

Relationship Note on Galen

As one who isn't accustomed to the sea and often scatters their meals into it, when aboard a vessel, I have some confusion regarding a recent journal entry.

The recent journal entry from a Prince of House Thrax detailing some sort of song or cadence that, I can only assume, is frequently sang before venturing onto the waves has given me some cause for concern.

What do they do to the goat? Why does it need preparing? Is it going to be okay?

Book,

A diddy, for my upcoming adventure.

Off we go to sea, Hi ho! Hi ho!
We hoist our mighty sails, Hi ho! Hi Ho!
We baton the hatches, we scrub the decks,
We prepare the goat! What the heck?
We hug our loved ones round their necks,
Off we go to sea! Hi ho! Hi ho!

Relationship Note on Sparte

Hello again book,

What can I say? Things are growing more interesting by the day, the looming battle sees me scrambling to meetings and running drills with our men, it leaves little time for me to train!

I was pleasantly surprised to find some time to do some training myself, and with none other than Sparte! His methods perhaps a little unorthodox, I carried with me a sack of potatoes to training, at the mans request.

We balanced them on the blades of our weapons and rolled them around, I admit, this was difficult on a spear blade, but I mostly got it. We sparred with them sitting on our heads, this was a disaster! We tossed them into the air, struck with our weapons and caught them before they hit the ground, or at least we mostly did...And then, there was the dreaded potato bridge, everyone gets on their hands and knees to form a tunnel, then you, with said potato on your blade have to crawl through the tunnel, trying not to murder anyone accidentally or drop said potato!

I am fairly certain some of the things we did were simply for his entertainment, regardless, he has my respect and was quite impressive, an amazingly skilled weapon master to be sure. I would suggest anyone seeking him out.

I like to think I'm a man of many talents. I have my skills, I know. But of late, it's difficult to feel as though any of them matter much at all. I'm not going to compose a poem to keep the looming threats at bay, or sing a ballad so beautiful that Leaholdt's earnings double in size.

It's time I put wishful fantasies aside and focused on practical duties. Perhaps this nagging feeling will go away, once I do.

The Greenwood in the morning light when a gentle breeze stirs the trees. If you listen close, you can almost hear the ancient oaks gossiping to each other. A squirrel scurries in the undergrowth, looking for precious snacks to be saved by winter. A stag with twelve points stands guard over a doe and fawn. Rays of sunlight punch through the canopy of trees, the dew sparkling in the green grass. A gentle brook brings soft music when mixed with the robin's song. An older redheaded girl stands so still that her muscles shake as she plays hide and seek with her younger brother and sister.

Relationship Note on Eleyna

They say love is a beautiful thing
Because of the joy that it brings.
Sweet nothings and gentle sighs
Hang on the poets' lyrical designs.
But I think these bards did miss
A brand of love with a sharper kiss.

Stand clear of their cuts and snipes
Don't ever claim that love is just nice.
Vases thrown, swords drawn and clash
Champions called, quick tempers crash.
Competition, deception, dark passion
Done with poise and scandalous fashion.
