I own an inn!

Kind of. It's always going to belong to the Grayhopes. But for now? The Murder of Crows is mine!

That's so fancy. And so exciting. And so scary. I think I need to learn my numbers better.

He's so... Naughty!
I'm not sure if I'll be able to deal with him...

I admit, it's been many years since I've thought back on my history with Aerin Seabreeze. She climbed the wall of the manor one day when we were seven, just to see what was inside. We had so little in common - she a grubby, wild-haired commonborn girl with an adventurous streak a mile wide and I the bookish, stubborn noble - and yet there was something about her flippant contempt for a woman's place in our society that resonated with me. I took her side when the guards arrived, yelling at them until father came out. Once he realized that I wasn't going to give it up, Aerin was allowed access to the manor - but she still climbed the wall every time anyway.

She was always in motion, always running and jumping and climbing - she'd drag me along if she had to. She'd be on the wall as soon as my tutor left, and drag me off to some new thing she found on the island, or show me some treasure she picked up from the surf. I hated the running around, but it was her giggle and the twinkle in her eyes that made me do it anyway. The only time I ever saw her still was when I got a new book about some adventure. Aerin would demand we read it together, and gods help me if I skipped ahead on her. Especially as Mother aged and got more and more... like herself, those quiet summer nights snuggled up in a tower or a cove or the branches of a tree were the best escape I had.

When she ran off to join the fleet, she tried to get me to come along. She was a silly romantic like that, always thinking we could do anything if we wanted it hard enough - and yet I knew, ultimately, that my place in life was to rule, not to sail. We both said a lot of things that night that we shouldn't have said. I wish I could take them all back. The last I heard from her was when Renatta died - she wrote a heartfelt letter that I still have tucked away in a novel she loved.

Lord Wash was right - she earned her captaincy herself, but it was I who gave her the ship she had wanted since she was eight. Stormward Sunset, her pride and joy, the ship she sailed into the Thirteen Hammers with my brother aboard. At least it was in my power to give her /that/ one thing she wanted, even if I never let her know that I did. I wish I could have, but even my presence on her ship would break her heart again.

I miss you, silly girl. I'm sorry I couldn't give you what you wanted.

It was a nice memorial for the fallen. It is good to know that the Queen of Endings cares for souls as she does. Sometimes I wonder if the souls of my fallen friends and those I care for sleep well in her embrace, or perhaps even have been put back into the running. There's someone I really want to meet again. I hope she is well cared for.

I gave the horse I've been using for Gray Forest trips, Betsy, a really harsh run because of an emergency the other day. She is still really sore with me, and I've already given her several treats and even washed her down myself. It may be that Tiny Tom's attitudes are starting to rub off on her. I really hope not, that'll make every trip a new headache.

Yes. I am an idiot. I think. I need to slip away from this city. Spend a few days, maybe a week tops, camping. Fury is getting restless and maybe it will curb his fascination with stealing footwear. Maybe we'll even dance with a bear.

House Grayson announces a bounty of 1000 silver coins to the one who can capture a prisoner who goes by the name of Tild, who escaped after poor handling of those who were supposed to pass these prisoners to House Grayson following their capture during the scouting of the sanctuary. The prisoner is wanted dead or alive and is thought to still be in the city.

Now I'm confused. I've never heard of the Oriel Woodland, but I thought Petrichor granted humans the right to do exactly this sort of thing where they needed and wanted. Does dominion over nature have exceptions?

I mean that question in all sincerity, I've found no god or his followers more personally baffling since coming to Arx than Petrichor.

A curious woman. Perhaps a friend, although, I admit I'm never sure with the nobility. She does, however, want to help others and that is an aspect of true nobility.

A very lovely woman to be sure, and worthy of praise and attention. I am sure she has a very vivid inner life under that smooth outwards appearance. Still, caution should be advised- she is, after all, from Setarco.

Relationship Note on Ansel

Ansel is my cousin, technically. But he is the closest thing I have to a brother -- even more than my actual brother. We trained together. We now serve as House Voices together. We make a good team, even if he is a better warrior and scholar both than me. Together, I cannot see anything that House Telmar cannot accomplish.

Nothing angers me more than those who would destroy such an ancient beauty for the sake of greed, especially a beauty as primordial as the Oriel Woodland / Forest. I bet, in its grandeur, before bandits thoughtlessly stole the treasures that made it what it was, that it was as lush and green as the grove that I took Mason to.

I will have to float an idea past Aiden, to see if we can't find a way to restore the forest.

In the mean time, you can find me on the archery field, working off my anger by shooting targets. The bandits will deserve whatever justice both Petrichor and House Grayson deem fit.

Relationship Note on Garza

Garza told me stories of the Siege at the Murder last night. He spoke of the Valorous Few and their struggles outside the walls of Arx and amidst the Bringer armies. It sounded horrific...and like splendid material to use in my next piece. Like clay soon to become pottery.
