A place where every single animal, no matter what its species, is forced to ignore its needs and instincts due to some sort of powerful aura that keeps them docile so long as they're present has to be one of the creepiest things I've ever heard of. Multiple places like that? I'll be happy to never see one. That's the most unnatural thing I've ever heard of in my life.

I've had a lot of time to think while my arm mends, and people really like going through journals. So here is something for people to work out.

I am never the same color as my parents in life, and shine like gold as I die. What am I?

It never fails to warm my heart to see people come together for a good cause. Truly, we are stronger together than apart.

In light of the recent and terrible losses suffered by the House Thrax and its peoples, the Golden Hart has taken up the cause to help with their recovery and will be hosting the Pennants Ball, a night of good will and support for the people who have been harmed by this awful incident.

It is our greatest hope that this event will help rally all of Arx so that we may come together and once again stand strong during this dark and trying time.

I am always so thankful when people rise to the occasion. I hope tomorrow's night event is no exception. So far we have received generous assistance from Princess Alarissa in preparing for the event and I’m sure more will come forward to support us in this.

I fear that dark times are returning to our realm. Perhaps darker than we know and we will need to stand together like never before. I cannot say how much such kindness, generosity and unity touches my heart and gives me hope.

Now to see that our stars are properly blessed so that our guests will have a little more luck in their lives.

I think this might be a most excellent party and for such a good cause. I cannot wait to see everyone.

The Captain-General provides very good instruction on how to trade cutlery for weapons. One should take note and remember the sage advice.

I would not recommend keeping ancient artifacts on your dining table either, the results can be troubling.

Fancy new trinkets? Best to polish them and sell them on auction. Leave the trouble to others.

When one finds an ancient artifact of strange and potentially great value, the proper action isn't to put it on. The proper action is to take it to your local jeweler and see what they'll give you for it, obviously. That's what plunder is!

I have many things to write about in my journal this week, but for this particular event, I must give it its own separate entry. My husband, Hadrian, hosted one of his legendary parties. His words. Elegantly titled 'Donkey Knights,' myself and several others managed to drink enough to convince ourselves that mounting a donkey and lassoing a 'dragon' was a great idea.

It was, actually, the best idea. I had more fun than I can remember having in many months or more. Not only because I won, though that most certainly was a delightful bonus, but because everyone around us was so filled with a genuine happiness, that it was hard not to laugh, and to smile.

With us were a few faces I had never seen before, namely, Nisaa Whisper and Inquisitor Mercedes Valardin. Perhaps my comportment was not as stellar as I so often prefer, I may nevertheless note down here and now that I was and am extremely pleased that both women decided to join us at the manor. Also in attendance were Lord Ian Kennex, Lord Wash Kennex (though I was unaware of this until the night's end...), my uncle, Marshal Valerio, Countess Arcelia Navegant, and, yes, my friends, even Father Orazio.

After the dragon was laid low, many of them remained at the manor to continue to drink and chat. Again, what pleases me most is that everyone seemed so joyous. Maybe it is the drink that has left me feeling so girlishly sentimental, but there you have it.

PS: It was the good Lord Ian (AKA, the princess of the sea) and his favor that gave me the grace and the glory that made it possible to win.

PPS: Lord Wash is quite probably the most ingenious man I have ever met, above and beyond even Hadrian.

Listening to Cesare at Whisper House when Princess Valencia and I visited there was so inspiring that when I accompanied him in a duet, I played better than I ever have before. That might not be a good thing. The goal may have been set too high to reach again.

Putting in my thoughts on this. Yes, do not play with mysterious origin unknown anything. Please turn those in to the Faith for the Scholars to deal with possibly.

I recall a few days ago maybe there were some journals circulating about. Fine individuals of the Compact speaking of their heroism.

I'll write about a hero. Lord Wash Kennex. That man is a Compact-wide national treasure, let alone a hero.

You can't hold that against me! It's not like I was told 'Oh, yes, the assassins might smear contact poison all over their rooms, so remember that when trying to keep the inn from burning down around you!'

Now, admittedly, I could have used more forethought in this latest endeavor, yes. But that's unrelated to the poison! Also, I was perfectly fine after that.

Apparently testing to see what ancient jewelry will do is best done by looking up historical texts and consulting with Shamans and those of the Faith, rather than just... Putting it on and waiting to see.

Well.

Now I know.

Sometimes I feel like I'm at odds with half of Arvum, above and below.

I think I like it that way. I always thrive in the challenge.

But I found myself singing chanties as I went through endless stacks of reports at the Grace today, and I think I miss the docks at Southport and the ships and sailors coming in and out. It was an organized chaos which I admired.

Leave her Johnny, leave her oh. Leave her, Johnny, leave her.

Perhaps I need to go sailing for a bit.
