We the common people oft are reminded to watch and emulate the highborn which is only right and just, however a study between a few currently in a public spat while great matters are being decided may cause confusion for many of us lowborn. At what point is the proper use of our dark passions?

The Thirteenth reminds us that corruption begins as a seed and is difficult to tend to once it establishes a root in our soul. We must use and control our passions so that we might not be ruled by emotional reactions. We must observe, look at the truth and then exhibit self-control. To carefully use our darker passions can give us strength in the right times, to lose self-mastery over our passions will cause them to corrupt and consume us.

Praise be to the Reflection, which observes and reflects wisdom, and chooses not to act. For us lowborn, we should thank Him for this lesson being "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.".

Graceful and political is something that I had to teach myself, from the moment I stepped foot into the city of Arx as a young girl. It is not something that the North is known for; our diplomacy has always been laughable compared to the skill of the Lycenes to turn a phrase, for example. Stories are told of our fierceness, our toughness, our loyalty, our paths. They build statues of our warchiefs, not our ambassadors.

But graceful and noble is never a look that goes out of style.

Prince Fergus, if you are in need of a Champion, I volunteer to fight for you. My only term is that both Champions must only wear pink silk, no armor, if he accepts, Princess Reese Grayson.

Ah, morning. Winter on the verge of spring. The birds are singing, the pigeons are cooing. The cream of society are warring in the Archive again.

It's days like these I really miss my mother

I challenged Fergus, because during the Iron Guard competition after being beat by myself and Princess Marian at the duel, he got visibly upset and huffy. He threw down his weapon, quit the rest of the competition and stormed out. He later posted on the journals about ceasing his fighting career over that. I left that go, thinking he was just having a bad day.

It might seem like a small thing that he called my boat fucking stupid, but it comes from a man who is a Prince of Redrain, shortly before I sail off into a battle that might kill me and it comes from a man with the history explained above. I would haven't challenged a commoner over that or even a noble without that history.

Also, it is common for duels to be fought over small matters. This would have stayed a stay a small matter if it was simply accepted and let go. Now it is a bigger matter.

When I was a child, my brothers in a typical showing of overall tormenting the baby sister, held me down and shaved my head. Mother was of course horrifed, father amused but putting on the show of punishing them.

I got even in my own way and still they are wary of me when I am suddenly somewhere where I wasn't a second ago. Good times.

That aside, perhaps we are just made of sterner stuff in the North. Recent slights perceived are so trite to me it makes me wonder if any one of them could have survived a childhood with my brothers. We play rough, talk rough, and for the most part avoid garish colors when trying to be on the offensive when trying to best and be discreet about maneuvers against something that wants to fucking kill us. One of multiple things, really. I never knew armor to be so ornate, but skin so thin.

Didn't think I'd be visiting Maelstrom in my life as a military commander... but here I am, a company of the Crimson Blades heading to Maelstrom for siege preparations.

If nothing else, I've always wanted to spend some time there.

Put that in quotes. High Lords enjoy quotes, right?

----------

You referred to your ship as a "pink ship". Specifically. A pink ship.

I hope you can see my confusion, Princess.

----------

Sidenote to others: As a matter of fact, I will have the scholars write whatever I damn well please in this journal. It's my journal. You're the one specifically going to the depository and asking to read the White Pages of a common commoner. This is my place to vent after a long day in the laboratory, working away at solutions to problems that would confound the minds of lesser beings, quite possibly to the point of complete mental shutdown and failure. Good Gods, don't they know that? Don't they?

Sidenote sidenote: Prepare tests to test mental stress relative to mental shutdown. No, don't write that! Wait - no, write it - it's important. Write all of it. Every syllable preserved in time for Vellichor!

Let me run through some questions here.

Does the ship outmaneuver it's peers? Yes or no.

Does the ship blow other ships up in a quick fashion? Yes or no.

Does the ship handle well in rough conditions? Yes or no.

Does the ship have a well-maintained quality? Yes or no.

Answer half of these with yes and it doesn't matter how stupid of a color you painted it.

I have a pink flag that can be taken down. Ping shag rugs and a pink hammock.

I have not painted the boat pink.

The issue between me and Prince Fergus goes much deeper than pink, as he well knows.

Relationship Note on Reese

As a self-proclaimed "man of fucking science" and studious scholar of societal norms, I have come to a consensus.

Pink is a stupid color for a ship. Not because it is a lesser color; no color is lesser than another, and it would take decades of very streamlined one-sided advertisement, marketing, and convincing by a large group of people with the single-minded idea of oppressing a group to make money to make a color be seen as lesser. I myself own a wonderful pair of spotted pink underwear and feel no shame in sharing that fact.

Pink is a stupid color because it makes you stand out on the water from across an entire Gods damned ocean, putting your entire crew at risk, and the Compact itself if the mission you're on is actually important to the world-ending crises that await us. Not to mention the inconclusive results concerning long-term tests of paint solubility in open ocean salt water. Your ship very well could rot away.

Good luck helping, Princess. Gods speed.

**Pink**

I looked away, no I blinked, and then there was this stick over the color pink.
Why is there such a stink over the color pink?
I dare say that I cannot think of why there is a stink over the color pink.
Is it a sort of pink kink that has made such a stink?
Oh why, oh why is there a pink stink kink?
Is there really to be a chink in armor over this pink stink?
Dar I think more about this pink stink kink?

It is a bit diffuclt to be a scholar when you have to read all the White Journals at times. Remember what you write is part of your legacy and memories that will carry through generations. This isn't to tell people what to write, but to be a bit mindful, otherwise we'll have some very confused descendants. Or amused! I like how many different people we have from so many different backgrounds.

Please note that the scholars may take some time preparing your journal for others to read.
