Relationship Note on Domonico

We've had a nice long discussion about some interesting things. Domonico was almost as good at keeping a relatively impassive façade as I was. Keeping those times that almost broke me, having to deal with terror and heartbreak, with feeling lost, the almost crippling worry, the burden of expectations largely tucked out of view of all but a very few others is one of those things that is never easy, sometimes bits of it show when one does not wish. Still it becomes a deeply ingrained habit, a façade one puts on like one does their garments in the morning.

Relationship Note on Joscelin

Guildmaster Joscelin Arterius has my admiration, but somehow I had started to take her work for granted. When I saw how people reacted to her work with the Seleki jewelry, I realized once again how amazing she is. She is a credit to our house and to the people of Pearlspire. Her work with precious metals and clear gems is amazing. I am used to seeing people wear these, I did not realize how delightful many would find our pearls set with her skill.

Self, you are an idiot sometimes. I laugh. The festival reminded me that pearls have flavours too. My brother Kaldur already knew this and encouraged me to share them at the festival.

Future scholars: This was a festival called The Taste of Grayson. Arx has many Taste festivals. I do not know how many flavours pearls can have. work on your linguistic skills because we use flavour and taste in many ways, not just for food. But pearls do have a flavor. it's definitely very strong just after you shuck them. I have not thought to taste them after they've been set....

Present scholars: If you think future scholars of food and jewelry customs would like to know how jewelry tastes, I can make a study of this. We already do have a custom of silver on desserts.

Future scholars of language: I wish you to understand proxemics and the language of our bodies. When someone puts palm to forehead it can mean many things. This scholar I just asked did so. My Pearl's Own also does this at times. The other day I did this to myself. Study the people around you so that you can improve your lexicon.

Vellichor, I am grateful that you inspire us to share our lives in the small and well as the large. My mother died in the summer, and as it passes I remember her passing. She lives in my journals and in the journals she kept. This summer has been difficult. You've given me comfort.

Relationship Note on Michael

Thanks for showing off Joscelin's divine skill as a crafter. That tiara with our pearls make up for your your new hairstyle.

I found it very intriguing to receive a message from Sir Struttington when I stood right next to you. Perhaps Sir Struttington could also use a tiara to good effect.

Future scholars: It is the custom of people here in Arx to preen and show their plumage to good effect. Surely this is still a custom in your time, but one never knows.

Princess Elgana truly outdid herself with the Taste of Arx event for House Redrain. The decor, the games, the prizes and gifts, were all like taking a small tour of all the Northlands. There is little wonder why she is the Minster of Fealty and I am grateful every day that we get to claim her as ours. Thank you, cousin, for creating such a grand party! Thank you as well to those who assisted her and made it truly a glorious evening I doubt anyone will soon forget.

Even when the shadows of our world seem ever-encroaching, spending a joyous time with so much close family reminds me yet again why we fight. Watching the merriment with my darling Lorenzo, seeing His Grace and the Princess-Consort playfully flirting, the easy comfort of dear and close friends, and the happiness worn on so many faces...

Yes. This is why we fight.

When I was first learning about the Gods, a clever priest explained to me that the spirits, my ancestors, are the fighters in the Colosseum, while the Gods are the walls, the ground under their feet, and beautiful sky overhead. The two can exist side by side without conflict but they are not the on the same level. He encouraged me to embrace the greater expanse.

It took many more conversations and life events to fully convert me to the Faith. His story lived with me always to help me resolve my respect the Old Ways with my love for the Gods. Yes, he was rather clever to use an analogy that a young warrior could latch onto. I see that now. He spoke to me in words I could relate to. I hope my own message now is just as eloquent.

I can not support this New Church of Petrichor. Shamanism and Faith are separate forms of worship. They can not be merged as one. To try to make them fit together is not just heresy against the Faith but also an attack against shamanism. While I can appreciate the struggle to find balance within, to honor the Old Ways while being true to one's Faith, creating a New Way works against everything. It lessens the beauty of our traditions. It brings conflict to those who do not deserve to have their way of life questioned again.

We fought together at the Battle of Stormwall. You heeded my call as allies before, heed my call now. Put down your swords. Abandoned this doomed folly. The Seraph of Fireside only incites a twisted version of nature, our protector of the forest, Petrichor. Return to the Faith militant for penance. Because we can all stumble in our path to find Faith. We can question our minds and hearts. That's why the Dominus and Legates are there to help us on our journey. Come back to the fold and seek penance.

Well so much to say here as another blow has hit those I care deeply for. The late Ford Kennex's passing is hard to bear so soon after the passing of my late wife Countess Titania Fireviper Nee Kennex. Ford and I had a rocky start but it smoothed out relatively quickly. After Titania's untimely passing he remained a loyal and true friend becoming like a brother to me,always there when I needed to speak about it or even when I just needed a drink with friendly company. He never stopped viewing me as family as some might after the person who bonded them as family passes but rather brought me closer. For this I have always been and will always remain grateful.

Ford my good friend my brother you will be missed and the Winds of Change are ever at our backs so we may rise From The Ashes.

Relationship Note on Ford

Marquis Ford Kennex was not a close friend of mine. We met socially upon a few occasions and our exchanges were brief. I've had more time with his extended family, many whom I'm rather fond of. His death is a horrible tragedy that should have never happened.

For his murderers who committed this foul deed: You absolute fools. You made him from a mere mortal with flaws like all of us to a shining light against the injustices practiced by thralldom. His name has become a rallying cry for those who would seek its abolition. You have rallied an army of outrage against your cause. Marquis Ford Kennex will live forever in our minds and hearts because your actions have made him a martyr. In the next Assembly of Peers when his family nominates him to be added to the Hall of Heroes, they will have my support.

Your fearmongering and terror that you wished to spread? Know that you failed. We are not afraid. We are resolved. We will lean on our allies to build our defenses against future atrocities. House Blackshore continues to be thrall-free. As a young leader finding her way, I am grateful to the man that came before me and showed me it was possible. Thank you Marquis Ford Kennex for your legacy. Your March inspired my own. I hope that I am worthy enough to continue the journey that you have started.

Relationship Note on Marian

I have led men into battle before many of you were born. I have killed before most of your parents even look at each other. I have pacified the wild north so that even the most war like tribes will seek peace lest they face the steel boot of Redrain. My head is the greatest prize sought out by Shav'arani and none have come close to claiming it. I am the greatest War Chief that Redrain has ever seen.

Until now. For all of my achievements, and the things that I have done pale in comparison to the Princess Marian, whom I will cheerfully follow into battle.

I am so terribly happy that the Redrain portion of Princess Sabella's grand Taste of Arx event series was a wonderful time! So many faces, both the familiar and the unfamiliar, showed up to celebrate what makes Redrain and its vassals great. I am grateful that both His Grace, Prince Darren, and his esteemed Voices, had the faith in me to pull this off.

And it wasn't just my effort, either. So many wonderful people came together to help make this a wonderful celebration. My thanks and gratitude to:

Arthen Dayne
Enid
Lady Brianna Halfshav
Lady Willow Nightgold
Lady Acantha Clearlake
Lord Rysen Crovane
Princess Donella
Princess Helena

And of course, to Prince Darren, Princess Gwenna and Princess Marian.

It goes without saying that my thanks also go out to those who came and spent time in the ward and enjoyed our company and spirits.

My team and I have created an enormous treaty that has put a plug in many, many conflicts. I won't lie, it was hard work, not the least of which was because this Great Road is

SO

DAMN

LONG.

And as I have traversed its length, I feel uniquely qualified to say: so long. so dusty. We'll try to do something about the dust.

It's times like these that we must remember those in the farthest reaches of Arvum, in villages scattered across the lands. That they need something to lighten their day, to lift their spirits. Stories of love and loss, despair and hope, things that connect them and remind them that we all share common threads of humanity with one another. It's this very thing that the Kismet Carnivals are intended to do.

While it is still in the very earliest stages of planning, efforts are taking place to expand those carnivals into new lands, to forge new partnerships. To those houses who have already pledged their support, and the trade, morale, and pride it shall bring? You have my thanks. If there are others out there that are so equally interested, my door is open and I respond to every messenger, and I am always eager to discuss what those partnerships can bring to help out the common man and woman in all corners of Arvum.

I'm wondering if I should offer paid slots on my pre-sale-notification list. Especially after all the interest in Seliki pearls, and my plans for next week: I have a whole flat-bed lined in velvet, full of pearls of every color. I thought only sapphires came in so many hues. I was wrong. -And- they're -carvable-. Goodness.

I am working on the Order of East Light quite a bit lately, what with Princess Coraline being busy being a newlywed, among other things. I would like to see it thrive and prosper, for I believe that reviving ancient traditions is something the Isles needs right now. We are working on a project which will renovate an ancient ruin to be used once more for the training of knights on Maelstrom. Yet it will take many resources and much time.

I had the good fortune to speak with Princess Liara Grayson yesterday, and she gave me some ideas about fundraising. I can only hope that others who are interested in this sort of thing also step up to help me with it. This is one of those times when I truly miss Princess Coraline's talent for this sort of thing.
