I did not realize that the Marquis of Stonewood was quite so personally vested in my private affairs. Goodness gracious. One isn't sure to be flattered or concerned. Perhaps both. Although, if the Marquis of Stonewood has any fears of my noble legitimacy, I would be pleased to assuage them. Merely send a missive instead of carrying such strange observations and peculiar questions to the pages of your own Journal. Especially in public. That might be taken the wrong way. Certainly, we have seen what happens in one's words are taken out of context. Lady Stonewood, Arianna - perhaps you need to relate the tale of the lessons learned.

With such pleasantries made and set aside, it would be wise to add into my own Journal the following, so that it might be known for the future:

Do not -- ever -- speak or speculate ill of my daughter. Ever. Thank you.

On another matter, speaking of new beginnings, I must say that it warms my heart to see so many coming to the aide of Cedar Vale in it's time of need. Every humble and reserved, it was not easy for me to ask for help but the way the peerage has lined up to assist is perhaps the most humbling thing I have witnessed. Theses people are truly setting an example of virtue to us all, and we will be every grateful.

Sometimes communing with metal over a hot forge for a couple of weeks is good for the soul. Along with a few bottles of well-aged whiskey, of course. It's the catching up when that's done, though, that is the kick in the ass.

I've seen that Carita Whisper ((struck through and noted above "Sorry, Darkwater)) will be marrying Baron Edward Stormbreak due to her announcement of such. I've heard talk that she'll be marrying down, but that is nonsense. She's of and from the lower boroughs of course, and was allowed to maintain her ennoblement even after she left her husband Baltus Darkwater, so to become a Baroness is certainly not a lesser station than the nothing from whence she came

Fortunate for her that the Darkwaters kept her as a lady, as marrying up from being a commoner is fortunate enough to be done once. Twice would have been a task of note indeed. I wonder what becomes of the daughter? Does she stay a Darkwater with Baltus, her father, or go with her mother to Stormbreak.

It will be interesting to see what happens as well, when the Queen takes Edward and Carita as she will take us all, to see if Carita's first born will inherit or if they will be passed over in favor of some new Stormbreak heir. It is an interesting question on the nature of our peerage, what happens when there is a divorce with children between a noble and a commoner. At every turn the events are so rare that I don't know of a fresh example of such a series of events. I'll have to look into it more, it is all so fascinatingly curious.

To the Faithful Reader:

Over the past few days, it has been my pleasure to spend time with brothers and sisters from Sanctum, including the Seraph of Sanctum, himself. 'Pleasure' is not mere politesse - there is a comfort and a benediction in tradition, in the enactment of practices and ritual which have been enacted for centuries, with the same words, the same gestures, the same heart behind them. Tradition connects us to those have gone before, and it creates a bridge by which we can reach out to those who come after us. Sometimes I have been asked, as a godsworn priest, if I regret not having children. It is a regret, certainly. But at the same time, I do have children - the priests and disciples who come after me, who will read the words I have read, and inherit the Church I have worked to preserve and protect. In the midst of so many changes, so much newness, it is a delight to spend some time with those who understand the value of that inheritance, as well.

That said, I am rather so full of tea that I slosh when I walk. Perhaps there IS too much of a good thing.

This city has quite a particular way of playing the games of chances -- one can only stare in wonder at times.

Relationship Note on Mia

I highly appreciate the Countess's aid in seeing to the wound of my cousin. It was unfortunate that my House's healer was detained at the last moment and was unable to attend, but we were blessed in having someone on hand that could tend to wounds. House Pravus is grateful for her aid.

Disclaimer: Though I believe the pamphlets circulating the city are true-- please do not try to forge a mirror shield of your own and go fight a mythical creature that can turn you to stone with its gaze. Please, please do lots of thorough research before attempting to fight any mythical beast.

The duel between Lady Stonewood's and Duchess Pravus' champions was just and well-fought. But given the wound taken and the sudden need for a healer, with none present who had greater skill than my meager experience mending injuries and stitching cuts, it is my very strong recommendation that one be present at any future contest between duelists. Something I would urge the population of Arx to consider, the next time that matters of honor must be settled with the spilling of blood.

Relationship Note on Belladonna

Most recently I offered some words which, despite my best intentions, offended a family of hard working people. It is with a sincere hand that I offer my apology to the Cullers and anyone else whom might have been upset by my words. The Sentinel's judgement isn't needed to acknowledge someone else's feelings and that will always be my stance when it comes to the emotional well being of the people.

In time I hope to make amends for my actions and to learn from my mistakes. Thank you for the opportunity to grow and move past this so graciously Duchess Pravus, without your words of wisdom on the matter perhaps I might not have chosen to reflect on my actions and find fault in myself.

If you want your time to count, perhaps next time you might try completing the course? If it helps, the idea is to run through the course, and ring the gong, and you must go through each obstacle. If the gong does not ring, your time does not count. Before you start leveling accusations of cheating in the archives of Vellichor, you might instead begin training your body so that you might be capable of completing the gauntlet, Lady Isabetta.

Relationship Note on Eithne

I had the pleasure of taking Mistress Eithne running - and climbing! I think it was beneficial. And I did not break her.

It grieves me that evil continues to lurk in the depths of the Gray Forest. I pray for the day when those forces are lifted from it, and I shall fight to make that day come. I intend to join the Grayson's scouting efforts into it soon, and we shall see what we can see. Until then? There remain trees on the outskirts where I can go to see the beauty of it, and I shall hold onto that.

In sparring, I remind myself, it is just as honorable to lose as to win. In losing, we learn about ourselves and our weaknesses and we better ourselves for the fights ahead against our true enemies.

That said, it is rather fun winning.

*A sketch of a strange, reptilian creature: but more like a lizard than say a dragon. A very large lizard, with a spiky back. It's teeth large, sharp, and wicked looking. Standing before the creature is a line of statues of men and women in soldiering garb: all frozen in different positions of either terror or battle-readiness. The creature glimmers blue-green. A single man stands before the basilisk not frozen; a shield brought up before his face shielding his gaze from the creature.*

I read a story, recently, from a pamphlet that has been circulating the city. Of a gallant Redrain Knight who went north to face a fearsome basilisk. The story says this nameless knight journeyed far into lands we would now consider Halfshav lands. The basilisk had been terrorizing a local settlement, causing miners to go missing, and otherwise to cause mayhem. So this Knight went to slay the beast... He carried with him a shield made of alaricite and all of all thing stygian: Some how fixed so that the shield's face was a mirror. He used this shield to save himself from the creature, which was stunned after looking into the mirror. And the knight was able to severe the head from the creature's body.

The tale ends there and I'm very curious to know: Did the men and women who had been turned to stone return to life? Or were they lost forever...

Perhaps there is, somewhere in the city, another pamphlet that has the answers?

Princess Reese, my cousin, has entrusted me with the position of Commander to our Grayson Archery units. My cousin has great faith in me. I will endeavour to give this position as much attention as the Officiator of the Menagerie and the House Minister of Upkeep. With the right people beside me, I know I can bring honor to the House, King, and Realm through this service.

I wanted to write about greed. I've been dealing with a lot of it lately. I wanted to reflect on what amount of greed is healthy, and at what point greed turns to avarice. But then, just yesterday, I walked past the Shrine of Gild. It says it right there, right in front of the Shrine, on the paving stones: Avarice Builds Cities.

Sometimes the answers really are right in front of us.

Today I almost threw down my gauntlet.

It was a friend and so I had more pause than I may have had otherwise and sure it would not have meant our friendship were over.

Some slights however simply demand satisfaction.

I feel lucky it did not come to that, it would of certainly been a lot of hassle.
