Living in fear of knowledge is no way to live. And if no one should help me learn about what I seek, I will struggle on alone, I guess.

That was very dramatic.

For what it's worth
understanding can be everything,
courage the beginning of the end,
killing the very things we abhor the most.

Touching the past in jade and metal,
harboring so much rage and power,
eclipsing the better parts of our success.

Give me a reason to praise the righteous,
yearning for a justice that will never be
reliving a loss with every fiber of me
encouraging the hope that somewhere you're out there, free.

So much has occurred these past few days that the ending of my penance seems utterly unimportant. But the Archscholar has commanded me to write of my experience, so write of it I shall--though in truth it seems almost narcissistic to write of one's self in times such as these.

There have been more deaths than I can count. It has become almost peaceful, in a way. I begin to understand the Harlequins--though I must confess I find the attraction to such things quite morbid. Still, providing comfort to the dying is a noble and worthy cause. There were some few times where I was called to give medical aid, which gave me a sense of pride. Above all, though, I began to recognize the importance of silence and peace in the House of Solace--and the penance quickly became more painful to my ego than to my knees and back. I am embarrassed to think about my actions with Sir Bayweather; no matter how justified a scolding may have been, it was wildly improper to disturb the ailing.

The Archscholar was wise in assigning me the penance. Hopefully I have obtained enough wisdom for the future.

Relationship Note on Marian

Princess Marian, Sword of Farhaven, Warlord of the Northlands,

I confess that I was afraid, when I first heard of the task ahead of us. Horses do not do well with the sea and there was the possibility the enemy would make deployment of things that Lord Tobias Telmar cautioned us about at the Aerie Peak.

And yet, your plan worked to defend the Northlands from the attacks of an impious and evil enemy.

We may have lost many that day, including Lady Eirlys Greenmarch, and we may have many more wounded than we may care to have, but we still carried the day. Under your direction, and your talent at arms.

You fought true to the words of your House, and truer still to the words of the Great House of the Oathlands. As so many of my cousins still think of you as their sister, so will I say and I believe my wife, Demura, will agree: you are welcome in Lyon's Redoubt at any time you wish, for as long as you wish, and we would be honored to have you teach lessons to young knights-to-be at our Academy. You would be received as kith and kin that you undoubtedly are, for we are now brethren-in-arms.

House Redrain ought to take pride: though you are not born of them, they have an ever steadfast defender and champion in their ranks, a second coming of Queen Valeria herself.

Sincerely,

Marquis Jacque Lyonesse,
Marquis-Consort of Lyon's Redoubt
Knight of the West

You won the battle, the goal was sought.
Were demon did rise and through peril you fought.
But wars are not finished just in one day,
The cost of your actions in the future you'll pay.

Imbalance was caused by a coin with two sides.
A world that struggles mirrors the battles inside.
Seek not to be by emotions askew,
But seek to force passions to work for you.

So much horror. So much death. And yet without the actions of the King's Own it could have been so much worse.

I do not envy Felicia's task to deal with the dead. I only wish someone had told her to burn them also after beheading them. A headless corpse still has arms and legs with which to attack...

I remember when she struck at those foul things... that hungered. How her blade clove so many down after my horse was taken from beneath me.

Without her, and so many others... I would not be here still.

Relationship Note on Drea

Princess Drea Redrain, High Shaman of the Spirit Walkers,

Not all of us walk the path of the spirits, but even for those that do not, it is important that the shamans be recognized for their service in the Battle of Stormwall. Led by Lady Khanne Halfshav, the Spirit Walkers prayed to the spirits and assisted with bringing nature's fury on the Marinites. Without their spiritual guidance and noble sacrifice, more lives would have been lost. Please recognize Lady Khanne Halfshav, Eilonwy Thunderoak, and other shamans for their support during the battle. And recognize the brave Redrain warriors led by Lord Arik Halfshav and Lord Brogan Nightgold who protected these shamans while they called upon the spirits.

The Faith that were there showed their respect by not interfering with the ritual. I commend Sir Preston and Dame Thena Greyhope for their tolerance. This is how the Faith and Shamans should work together, for the greater good of the Crown and Compact. To the Last, they fought back the darkness. For that I am grateful.

Relationship Note on Reigna

Countess Reigna Keaton, Guildmaster of the Physicians,

You were there at the Battle of Stormwall. You witnessed first hand the damage our enemy caused to House Redrain, allied Compact and Faith forces. Your physicians worked side by side the Mercies to ensure that lives were saved. I can not imagine the carnage if your physicians were not on the battlefield. Even when the enemy stormed the healers' tents, you kept at your duty, letting the Knights of Solace defend you as your people worked around the clock. Please accept my personal thanks for your contributions as well as those of your guild.

Please consider recognizing these caring and compassionate physicians: Lady Olivia Ashford who set up the triage tents and was your right-hand physician during the battle. Petal Penrose assisted the physicians with her nursing skills.

Every Last Redrain appreciates your service.

It may be small comfort, but Fiachra and I have decided on what we feel the very best way to honor Lady Eirlys Greenmarch.

If the child I carry is a girl, she will be named Eirlys so that there is a Princess Eirlys Valardin, as was meant to be. And if the child I carry is a boy, he will be named Eirlon in her honor.

It has already been a comfort to us both to hear word of the her recognition as a hero and warrior.

And to the rest of our family: You better keep yourselves safe.

Relationship Note on Edain

Prince Edain Valardin, Highlord of the Oathlands,

You were there on the beaches. You saw what we faced. But never did you or your cavalry hesitate to come to House Redrain's defense. While the honorable Princess Alis Valardin led your knights to Setarco, you personally took it upon yourself to lead the Valardin cavalry to the North. Please accept my thanks for your efforts. Without your Valardin knights working side by side the Faith and Redrain armies more lives would have been lost at the Battle of Stormwall.

While the valor of your knights and brave healers are vast and many, I would like to take this opportunity to recognize a few that stood out against the others. Lady Eirlys Greenmarch who gave her life in the Battle of Stormwall. She stepped in front of a deadly attack and fell to save Dame Esoka Greenblood. Her sacrifice will be honored among the Redrain warriors as we raise our swords to her. Prince Jericho Valardin who sherpard the infantry away from danger so they were not felled by boulders. Who lost his precious Lady Eirlys cutting down the enemy who were escaping from the burning of Stormwall while she was taken on the passes. Princess Terese Valardin who took blow after blow on the beaches and kept fighting. Marquis Jacque Lyonesse accepted the mantle of knighthood, rallied the knights with his heartfelt speech and then rode into battle determined to take ten for every one of the cavalry that fell under the enemy. Lord Alban Farshaw fought with ferocity but never lost his compassion as he made sure that the wounded were safely taken to the healers. Sir Holden Morgan watched the back of his fellow cavalry and cut a path through the enemy line. Sir Daemon Dracone who fought along side other Knights of Solace to protect the healers and keep the passes free. Countess Reigna Keaton led the physicians into the battlefield, seeing to the wounded even though the enemy sought to attack the healers' tents.

If I have forgotten any of the brave and honorable, please forgive me. The contributions of the Valardin knights are too many to count.

Highness,

I am sorry for your loss, which I know rends at your heart and soul. While I did not know Lady Eirlys, I saw in our one meeting the sort of woman she was, and we are all worse off at her parting.

If I or the Shrine of the Thirteenth can be of assistance in this time - if a balm can be offered - please do not hesitate to send word.

Relationship Note on Eirlys

I met the Lady Eirlys exactly once, when she was discussing plans to marry Prince Jericho. She impressed me then, with the grandness of her heart.

I heard about her passing. That she died protecting another is unsurprising to me.

I regret I did not have the chance to know her better. She seemed like a woman of rare quality.

Please accept the thanks of House Redrain for the assistance of the Mercies at the Battle of Stormwall. Mother Mercy, Princess Sophie Valardin, sent Cybele with a contingent of Mercies from the Arx chapter, as well as other chapters sent their Faithful healers to see to our soldiers. Lady Rey Laveer stood out amongst the Mercies of Lagoma as being dedicated to her cause. She saved many of the wounded that were put under her care. Please recognize her for the compassion and care that she showed on the battlefield till the Last soldier was taken to safety.

Relationship Note on Orazio

Legate Orazio, the Heart of Solace and Shield of the Faith,

Please accept my heartfelt thanks for sending the Knights of Solace to Stormwall to keep our passes free, so that none of our warriors would be trapped within the city. Redrain would have lost more people at the Battle of Stormwall, if these passes had become overrun with the enemy. Dame Thena Grayhope proved her mettle on the battlefield and in the command tent by providing keen strategy and compassionate service to all that were in need of Solace. Combined with the timely efforts of Sir Daemon Dracone and Sir Jeffeth Bayweather many of the fallen were protected and taken to the Mercies for healing.

All three of these Knights should be recognized for their Faithful efforts and dedication to their duty. They protected their charges to the Last!

Relationship Note on Cassandra

Archlector Cassandra Laurent of Gloria,

Please know that the Sir Preston led the Templars with clear purpose and concise decision making both in the command tent and on the field, leading the cavalry. It was his timely actions combined with Prince Edain Valardin that ensured that no Marinites escaped from the burning of Stormwall. His strong Faith carried him and his men through this battle. Without the defense of the Faithful, Redrain would have lost more people at the Battle of Stormwall.

Other Templars that paid key roles in the success of this campaign were Dame Esoka Greenblood who faced the darkness without fear and almost lost her life for it. Lord Alban Farshaw who met the Marinites on the beach with his sword, and his quick thinking assisted other soldiers that were damaged by the burning pitch. Princess Terese Valardin who took a flaming arrow while taking the enemy on the beach. Princess Echo Redrain who was one of the last to leave the beaches to make sure her fellow Templars and allied forces were able to withdrawal back to the city. Their bravery and faithful efforts turned the tide on the beaches and later protected the passes from being overrun by the enemy. When their limbs were tired and the soot filled their vision they rode to the Last to make sure none of the Marinites escaped.

Please recognize these Templars for their duty, honor and glory.

It is hard to focus on anything considering I am constantly fearful for the lives of the ones that I love who are facing the horrors of war as this is written. It is hard to keep smiling, though I am trying, because someone needs to try to keep those who remain here cheered. As much as possible, which sometimes seems...I hope it is not taken in a terrible way, that I do not understands the risks and the hardship, I do, but for those of us in the city there is nothing but anxiety and worry and fear and it is not helpful. Especially when so many left behind are expecting new babies in the future. The strain is too much. So, I will try to lighten what I can and keep the subject from being too heavily on things we cannot know or change.

It is hard to ignore the information coming in. I want to know everything as it happens, but the anxiety of it! Waiting for the next release. I could not stay at the Vigil to bear it. Best to find out all in one go as the light dawns the full extent of what has happened. And it's not over yet.

I worry constantly for my sisters. For Aiden and Harlan and Luca and Michael and Theron and my friends and family all of whom are too numerous to fully list here. You are in my thoughts and prayers every minute of the day and night. Even if I am not speaking on the war, I am thinking of you.

Please come home.

May your hands be cleansed of the lives you took to save your people.
May your feet be lifted of any burdens in this lifetime that weighed heavy.
May your heart be comforted of any worries of who you left behind.
May your deeds be recorded so they are remembered for your sacrifice.
May your soul rejoin the Wheel and be reborn into our fold once again.

You were born of my blood, spent your youth learning in my shadow, but when the time came and you were needed, you shined for your own deeds. I will speak your name with pride. I will shed no tears. For you lived your life with honor and glory.

Supply Commander's Log, for the archives:
We're out at sea. I don't usually write this shit but I thought it'd be fun.
Once all the ships were pointed in the directions they were meant to go, we had a ship-wide drinking contest on The Magpie, with the winners getting pick of their duties for the next day. This really wasn't much of a contest though because I wasn't giving up my place as Captain and Dan wasn't going to let anyone else be first mate. Mostly we all just drank.
After the drinking contest, there was a ship-wide pissing contest which involved aim, distance, and power metrics. Except for Fort. He was belowdeck being broody and artsy. Surprisingly, Zavi won that contest.
Then we came into some sand bars and reef areas we're fond of and did some fishing so we didn't have to dip into the war supplies. In honor of Dean, (We miss you buddy!), we had fried squid for dinner. Sooo good when caught fresh that afternoon.
After dinner we had our nightly flotilla with the Crow's Nest. We practiced rope maneuvers of swinging from ship to ship like raiders.

.....

It's been a few days. More supplies. More cargo. Same old same old. The waters are fantastic though and I couldn't be happier, finally out at sea after so much time cooped up in the city. Mayir and I have gotten our rope maneuvers down to a respectable time. Not that either of us plan to take up raiding, but you never know when you might have to swing wildly on a rope while screaming like an idiot.

......

Supplies, supplies, back and forth. Then I ran into Lord Wash and his fleet. Convinced him to let me practice boarding via rope-swinging with his marines. Good times. Good times. Also met Mercy Victoria.

.......

WOW. What a storm. Fucking spread the supply fleet everywhere and I'm just taking a few minutes breather before I go deal with the thick fog we're stuck in. Gotta find The Crow's Nest. Mayir crashed here on the Magpie last night and now his ship is off away somewhere.

....

Okay, that was a shit pit. Sending this back to the city to be archived. Need to track down Victus and get word to him. Supply fleet mostly found, Crow's Nest is gone. This shit just gets worse and worse. Stay away from Darkwater Watch unless you're someone I don't like.
