Did they go out of their way to tell others how great you are? Even if you're not? Did they do the best they could do to make you feel welcomed and to insist they wanted you around? But somehow that wasn't enough. You might have your reasons for your actions, but that doesn't mean the other party might not be deeply offended and deeply hurt. I recognize this is something that I did, but also that in the long run it was for the best. I can be sorry and relieved, I can find my actions unfortunate but also defend them. Sometimes the right course is only at best bittersweet.

After the much more impressively trained dogs had won their prizes, Countess Mia bestowed upon him the title of "Most Determined". I'll have that inscribed on the collar he won. Hopefully, it will be the first of many accolades for Barf the bog dog.

I love it with every sense I possess: I love to see it, I love to breathe its perfume, I love to hear the elusive chords under silence, and I love the caress left by the starlight dancing on my outstretched hands.
I can dance under the revel of the constellations, a silhouette passing through the darkness. The night is a whole universe unto itself, and I am consumed by it, delighting in the intoxicating black immensity of space, a radiant mote in the everlasting.

Good news, I guess, is that we didn't see anything too terrible at the hospital from the snow. Some cuts and bruises on account of people being disoriented, a lot of vomit. You hand them a bucket, some water, some bread and tell them to sit still. They don't listen, which you knew that they wouldn't. You do it anyway because it's the only thing you have. It's a gods damned farse. These aren't soldiers. They're people. Normal, everyday civilians not doing anything but living. The whole world is sideways, and all you can do is hope that the people who know how to fix it, do.
If you're one of them: Thanks. Please help. In the meantime I'm substituting alcohol for water because that's a great idea.
(You know what works best on bruises? Snow. You know what I can't put on bruises today because it's green and acidy?
Seriously. Make it stop.)

If ever we seem tired, it is because of late we have written too many lines in those pages.

I'm not sure what this will mean for their food and water supply right now. I've plenty of hay, but water... I am uncertain.

I'm so glad that I did, for tucked inside the pocket of one of my oldest dresses, and one which might otherwise have been thrown out, I found an earring which I thought had been lost to me. I wept with joy. What silly and sentimental creatures we are to become so attached to simple things, and I am so happy that it was not truly lost, but simply misplaced. It is all I have left from before I was lost, and I will never let it from my care again.
I also discovered once more the gown which Vincenzo designed for my twenty-first natality. It holds within its folds the scent of the perfume I wore.
Will this snow never end?

In other news though, there are a great many out there with some very fine jewelry and for... well, I'll not speak to how much coin I lost. Maybe I should seek Juniper for my tea instead of Draven.
Demetria wanted to put a dragonweep pendant up for three hundred thousand. I said eight hundred. Thankfully, it's tucked away but...
Has to be the tea. All the more reason o stay tucked in here in my forge.

Relationship Note on Draven
It might not be well known (but it really should be) that my dear Professor [Draven Bruvir] also did a fair share of good deeds in times past, too.
In the Physician's Guild, he worked hard in the triage hospital during the Lodge defense, doing so through that rough experience to caringly heal our injured people. Not only was there an Alchemy project at the Redrain Gardens but also a Gardening project at the Stone Grove with Voice Valery of the Apothecary College (of which he is an esteemed Professor), too.
He generously paid for my 'survival gear' to hopefully help me 'last longer' during the Lodge ordeal, too. To this day, we ardently disagree on whether I still owe him. I still do, of course, but he lovingly assures me: "I am just glad you came home to me like I asked. If that's the bill that I have to pay, to make sure you do, I'll pay that and ten times more every time, if I can."
We will eventually work on our second adventure for Cascade Springs, too, the first one during which he was a dedicated Alchemist, Herbalist, and Medic.
Last but not least, he put up with my Northern ass in his Lycene life, doing so for 9 months after we first met around 'Love Poison' before we finally married with written promises to one another which are mutually signed, even if the common class does not have to do so. Now, he is trying hard to fit in with Compact life as well as hopefully become a Halfshav commoner.
My amazing husband is a wonderful man. He is one of the best Things which has ever happened to me. I love him more than I can ever write down in mere words.

I pray for the soldiers and warriors, healers and armorsmiths, the horse tenders and the cooks. I pray for the people of Arvum, and for this never-ending cycle of war that has become our lives. We will persevere, as we have always, but my heart goes out to the ones in the frontlines. You make me more hopeful for better days.

Let's hope it's not gotten into the bottles at the murder at least.
