Relationship Note on Eleanor

The King placed such trust in the Lord Commander, not only in the safety of himself and his family, but in naming her Voice of the Crown.

That trust was well placed for Dame Eleanor handled the recent Assembly of Peers with ease and efficiency.

Poison.

In the Lyceum it comes in many forms. Liquids, powders.

But, the worst is conversation.

I have never had patience for the game, especially when it is ill-played. Father died by poison. Anyone who thinks I enjoy the cowardice of poison does not understand me at all.

I don't see the big deal about the Cardians having an embassy. Everyone likes their snakeskin leather for armor and steelsilk for dresses and capes and whatnot.

Wouldn't it be good to have a place to go talk trade rather than hunting down the guy with the big sword?

And Cardians follow the rules. All the hundreds of volumes of them.

Relationship Note on Talia

I did not win the auction for the beautiful steelsilk gown. Almost, but it was not meant to be. I admit that it has never occurred to me to purchase a gown of such material, but it was too lovely to pass up the opportunity. What has happened though, is another opportunity and I can not thank the talented seamstress enough for her generous offer of giving the Lyceum a discount of things purchased at Elegant Impressions. I could not be more touched by her thoughtful proposal.

Relationship Note on Sindri

The influx of Cainites into the city I will take of as a sign that many are interested in seeing how their new Countess is getting on. If that is a misreading of any sign, I will still believe it to be true, simply to feed this vision I have for myself!

Relationship Note on Amir

When a man invites you to a birthday party, you hardly expect to be witness to nefarious plots. My heart goes out to the Melaeris family in this turmoil. I hope that the assassin is found swiftly and retribution is had.

Attended a Kennex party the other night aboard their ship. While it snowed, it wasnt terrible and their ship beautiful.

Relationship Note on Sabrina

My cousin has come from Caina to the city, and with her arrival come a flood of memories of a childhood peppered with mischief and levity. She hit it right when she told me change in necessary, but to cope with the realities of the world, sometimes we must cling to those memories.

I am glad to have her in the city, and look forward to all of the new memories we will make together.

I took great enjoyment today roaming between the Inns in Arx and meeting many people for the first time, I wonder how many will continue on to become friends of mine.

Relationship Note on Hadrian

I'm not convinced that Lord Arik feels pity. If he gave you a prize, it was because you deserved it. And perhaps because he hoped that next time, if I compete, you'd steal the title from me so that I couldn't remind him of my victory at opportune moments. We can never neglect the self-serving motives here.

So congratulations, my lord. You deserved it, and it was a pleasure to have such strong competition at the Beards and Brews.

Congratulations to Lady Carita and Lady Mabelle as well. Fake or not, their beards were most impressive.

As a merchant, and a firm supporter of the Faith, I feel it pertinent to correct one small detail from an earlier journal...

To Lady Celeste Pravus,

It is not Cardian Steelsilk that has been put on embargo, but Eurusi Pyreweave (or Fireweave, if you prefer). This came about as the result of many actions, but the last of which were a series of unfortunate events that occurred in the Isles and included, I believe, Eurusi pirates bearing live cargo of the slave variety.

I do hope this helps to clear up whatever misunderstanding has occurred!

I failed to outrun the wind and snow before coming into Arx by sea. I must confess it made for an interesting final approach to the docks but it was well within the capabilities of Osprey's crew.
I have never seen them secure the ship at dock so quickly to get into the warmth though.

I don't think I wrote anything about my birthday when it passed. It was quietly spent with Harlan, and the twins. At 6 months, they're starting to be less squishy and a little more adorable every day.

And now that I've had that birthday, and I am officially 22, I feel like I maybe have begun to gain some experience in a variety of areas. This is not necessarily a bad thing.

I've been a little remiss in my poetry studies of late, and so choosing the theme for the next poetry reading is my attempt to invite the muses to inspire me.

More likely, I will write nothing interesting and will feel exquisitely jealous of the other poets who read that evening. In this case, jealousy isn't even terrible, for I am so enamored of hearing the beautiful words of others, and they in turn act as muses for the future.

Today's poet is tomorrow's muse.

The theme will be legends and myths; perhaps some historians will find their inner bards to share their favorite tales in meter and rhyme.

It does sometimes make me feel more than a little antiquated, but there is real pleasure in returning to the role of a tutor and instructor for others: it brings me back to a number of periods in my past, when I was entrusted with a small portion of the responsibility for educating various members of my kin. Frequently, the topics are the same: points of etiquette, principles of diplomacy, excursions into history, and the like. But I particularly welcome a recent addition to the curriculum: teaching others how to pass on their own knowledge feels doubly rewarding. At least to this former tormentor of young children with the terrors of books and numbers!

Though I am still - somewhat guiltily - enjoying the popular acclaim with which I and many others of my name are greeted within the Lycene Quarter, I cannot help but muse upon related changes. The welcome mellowing of attitudes towards the Truesworn is still in place; indeed, there have been a few enquiries about Truesworn history and even recruitment.

Some parts about being a Voice and Duchess I enjoy more than others.

This is probably true about many things, but there are definitely days when I am more pleased with the way things work, and others when I feel I am barely keeping my head above water.

Today is one of the good days. Of course it will take time for plans to come to fruition, but at least there is something that we can plan, and work with. And hopefully it will work out well.
