I wrote about this a while ago, but...

It's been pointed out to me that I'm a very different person within the city walls and outside them. In the walls, I tend to be formal and serious; to be aware of politics, and to quash my tendency to make jokes. To be very focused on the things that... well, we need to focus on. Gathering information, sharing it to those who need it, and organizing the Explorers.

Out in the wilderness—on expeditions—or in scenarios when I'm learning something new, I tend to be less formal, less stiff. More prone to crack a joke.

Out there, I tend to be the real Aislin, I suppose.

And I'm starting to realize perhaps I should try to find her even within the city walls. To break down the barriers I tend to have up while I'm here in Arx.

Habits are hard to break, however. Perhaps I need to find a few things that aren't... well, studying or discussing horrible apocalyptic scenarios, and do /something/ to unwind. A way to unwind that /isn't/ just going on expeditions.

(Gods... do I need a /hobby/?)

I really do loathe boats. I really do. There is just something about being able to plant my feet upon the ground and feel the earth between my toes. Despite loathing boats, the ocean itself actually does hold a beauty of it's own. It has spirits of it's own! There are spirits of the wind, of the waves, and of mysterious, terrifying, and beautiful things deep beneath the waves. I know these spirits are there. I heard them whispering on the winds. I must admit that I have a brand new respect for the ocean. Especially after the recent events that transpired out by Maelstrom.

Time to decide what to do next. Perhaps I will focus on learning more of the Eurus side of myself.

Peopling is difficult. Henrik is constantly making me do it.

I have a bottle of whiskey and an evening spent on the top of the world. The Spring winds are still cool up there.

Relationship Note on Symonesse

I am happiest for you most of all; I know how much this means to you.

I am also mildly apprehensive about the prospect of moving into the path of thousands of years of unleashed pent-up maternal desires, so please be gentle when I step into harm's way. The Compact worked very hard to bring me back from the Exsilium Noctis, after all.

It was nice to catch up and spar with you. I hope you have been doing well enough. I know that I'm much different than when we first met, but I hope that we can call each other friend.

Stopped by the Hart before my shift. Lovely fun, sparred with Merek. He's -greatly- improved in skill, he claims Luca's been helping him as well. Can't say I'm surprised, Luca's nimble as a cat and impossible to hit on a good day.

Getting drunk and fighting, what possibly could be any better than that? Valencia had a great idea when it came to such, and people seemed to be enjoying the good-natured fights, whether being part of or just spectating. I fought the healer Eirene, she impressed me with her skills as a fighter as well.

My good man,

One rarely loses with alcohol! Just my opinion of course.

It occurs to me that I never had a chance to thank them fully in person. A night’s vigil at the statue of Mangata. For helping my friend without hesitation, I am forever grateful.

Princess Alarissa Thrax, Princess Denica Thrax. I am not the best with words, so please understand I mean my deepest heartfelt thanks.

Also not forgotten, and so very instrumental in the revitalization, my deepest appreciation for Merek Black, Oliver Coldrain, Petal Penrose.

All of you made it possible. Thank you.

I felt good about things on the island. Like we had made such great strides forward. What I saw on the way back....worries me. It sounds as if I was not alone in that dream. We have to keep working, work harder. We cannot let it come to fruition.

It has been a quiet week, where my attentions have been somewhat distracted. Fatherhood is apparently more time consuming than I first thought, when you're not ignoring you offspring.

Starting next week, my focus will resume to matters at hand, political and martial.

I'm not utterly irresponsible. It doesn't need to be a large knife, it can be a small one. It doesn't even need to be that sharp.

Relationship Note on Talen

Everyone knows that a baby is not ready for knife fighting until it takes its first step.

Rolling over is a wrestling move and therefore should clearly be celebrated with baby's first bear brawl. Let me know if you want me to find a cub that would be an acceptable match for your little one.

My husband seems to think that an infant rolling over means he is ready for fighting lessons and needs a knife.

For a three month old.

I believe he is out shopping for one now.
