I was pleased to see the results of the work we had put into Kennex pay off. I'm sure the Legate is thoroughly embarrassed - but it's important, nonetheless, to have our figureheads and inspirations. He'll be that for the folk of Kennex for some time.

Let it never be said that the Lyceum does anything less than impressively. The dedication ceremony of the Carlotta was lovely, and yet, the Archduchess outdid it by announcing that the plans to such a ship will be shared with the Compact. A wonderful gesture, and it does not go unappreciated, your grace.

Relationship Note on Regla

It is my belief, and my hope, that one day we shall laugh about the way that we met.

I was not speaking falsely however, it was a pleasure to meet you. I look forward to you meeting my wife and son.

There isn't a day that goes by that I am not reminded of my duty to my House and the Compact. Minute by minute, as I pour over papers or walk the roads of our city, thoughts form bidden or unbidden in my mind of what it means to be a Grayson, to be a High Lady, to be of the Compact. There are times I misstep, as we all do, but in any of those times, I still think of the good of the people and not my own selfish desires. I understand that the sacrifices that I make ensure others' happiness.

And when I look around the dinner table and see Prince Ainsley and his wife, knowing what he has just spent for Tikva's bow; Princess Reese and her husband, as Luca lights up our night with his charm; Prince Laric worried for Cara in her stage of pregnancy-- I am never anything less than glad.

Relationship Note on Mae

I found Scourge about a week ago when there was this gods awful clamor in the kennels. I did not know what to expect, the dogs were all so riled and upset. I had not carried my quarter staff in quite some time and I remember thinking how odd it felt in my hands when before it felt a part of me. I digress, as I am wont to do, but... when I got there I saw the most wretched creature I'd ever seen, painfully thin with clods of matted brown and bare flesh. He was eating from the food stores, having found a way in and the rest of the hounds were losing their minds.

I managed to clean him up and determine that it was, in fact canine, and while his disposition is not the best at first, once proven a source of food, he will cleave to you and love you as fiercely as he can.

I am so glad this little fury has found a good home. I think there is a glorious partnership to be had there.

Thank you, Mae Grayhope!

Relationship Note on Esoka

The world moves.

We made Riven a new thing, half-Greenwood and half-Crownlander. Neither peoples is what we were before. Few people in them neither, I think.

We'll be another new thing now, with Burned Men and Redhawks and Thenns from the woods, and Bloodsnakes and Tyrfalls and Brokeblades from the isles, and plenty more.

Can't stop the future more than you can dam up the Mother. We'll all be something new together, sharing stories and lives and homes. But I don't look to see the Greenwoods stop being ourselves neither, or blend to nothing among the strange peoples. I look to keep our stories told, the marks written, out songs sung.

Even if you don't want to hear me singing them.

Relationship Note on Reigna

Countess Reigna Keaton

If you do not know this woman, you the reader of this entry, you are missing something wonderful. Really, my words of praise for all that she is could never do her justice. She is beautiful, and elegant. She is wise with an intellect that constantly craves to know more. Is it any wonder she is a Disciple of Vellichor? She also possesses an open mind to the things others have to say. She does not act on impulse, usually, often thinking things through; how will it affect her, her family, her people, the future; before she acts. She is poised and with a treasure of a sense of humor. And oh my goodness, does she know how to throw a party!

Once upon a time, I mentioned that my birthdays since coming to Arx have been shadowed with moments of sorrow that leave a mark upon the history of my life. She asked if she could try to help brighten it this year, if she could throw a party to celebrate my day. I have never, ever, in my life had a party to celebrate me or my birth, so I was excited, but also a little scared. I must take this moment to publicly thank her for her kindness in this act. Not only was it an amazing party with a fun game of bear racing, delightful offerings of whiskey to warm my heart, and an adorable and delicious 'Spirit Bear' cake of chocolate, raspberries and blackberries.... It was also a beautiful reminder of just how blessed I am to have so many friends and people who care about me in my life. I am so thankful for each and every person who came to enjoy the evening with me, and for those who were unable to but wished they could. Thank you for the gifts I received; though they were not necessary, they are deeply appreciated and all quite beautiful. Thank you for the laughter, the well wishes... everything.

I seem to have gotten a little off track from telling the world how wonderful Reigna is... but truly, she is. She helped chase away the remnants of that shadow that came with my birthday, and left me with a beautiful memory of joy and friendship. And so, it made sense to also say that all my friends are rather wonderful as well. Thank you all!

Relationship Note on Bliss

I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Bliss Whisper and the rest of the Whisper house for the invitation to a lovely evening. The food, music and company was sublime, and you have really outdone yourselves. It's such a joy to have her back in the city, I haven't seen her since I was a young girl back in Tor. It has been a joy to get to know her once more as a woman grown.

If there are more evenings like this, I sincerely hope to receive an invitation in the future, I would hate to miss it.

Relationship Note on Delilah

When I met Lady Delilah Whitehawk, I could immediately tell there was something special about her, and I had endeavored to make sure to figure out what it was. At first we seemed to happen to run into each other quite a bit, and perhaps it was just coincidence, but perhaps there was some other hand at work. We met more, grew closer, and the future has never looked better. These past few months have been a whirlwind, and I expect the archives to be full of my musings on the subject that will make the compact collectively gag and groan.

You're welcome, world.

The preparations for the Nox'alfar Embassy are well on their way, and I can only hope it is a great success when all the pieces finally come together into a finished project. It will take time, of course, as all great things do, but I am so pleased to have received the level of interest I have thus far. Arx is a wondrous place filled with inspiration and people who run with it.

There is still so much more to do.

Relationship Note on Jurn

While it may not be obvious, I'm exceptionally happy that the First Ranger has arrived in Arx. We've much to discuss, plan for, and pursue. Master Jurn has been instrumental in turning the Prodigal-majority unit from a group of displaced hunters and warriors into a fighting force that has proven itself a number of times since their official commission and even before that, during the siege of Arx.

What I like most about him? He knows when to show discipline and when he mustn't. He knows when to stand a little taller and when to throw his feet up in relaxation. It's a skill sadly lacking in some that I've encountered, but speaks volumes of his personal character and training.

He has some aptitude with falconry, which I'm sure with the many enthusiasts who have their own birds of prey in the city, he'll only become more experienced with in time and enthusiastic about the task, with time. I hope that if there is some such raptor handler's club that it will allow Master Jurn to socially... get his beak wet.

My oldest memory is one that has never left me and probably never will, though some parts of it have faded so much that they likely only still exist in my mind because they're attached to the rest. Other parts are so sharp and clear they could have happened an hour ago. Some nights I lie awake, tracing this memory like some people might follow the familiar edges of an old crack in the ceiling. Some nights it edges into my dreams while I'm already asleep. And some nights I wake up in the dark, hearing notes of it like an old song, half finished. Even during the day, it's always there at the back of my mind, waiting to be brought up during quiet moments when my mind wanders without thinking down familiar paths. If I had to make the choice, of any memory I have, this is the one I'd never trade away or wish gone.

I've had a lot of time to think recently. I've had time to draw some conclusions.

It will be those who work to bring on the nightmares, the heralds and the abyss, that will ask the most and compliment you for your knowledge while you tell them off it. The First Children, the Weapons, the means of all your secrets; they will ask. However, I realize that even their efforts will be needed to fight against the end of the dream. Our world is built on this concept, and we cannot be rid of it. There needs to be good to recognize what is evil, and there needs to be evil, to recognize what is good. We are all connected. Throw a pebble in the pond and all of us experience the ripples, some ride upon the apex of it and others upon the trough. But our world is thusly changed by the motions. A person should think then, before throwing the pebble.

Have I thought enough? Or shall I throw the pebble...

Let it be known that Scourge (the rat-dog formally known as Bear) is MY DOG.

Not Magpie's dog! Lord Valerio ceded his first place victory to ME and I took Scourge. Also I was really good at putting the thing through the holes.

Scourge is going to become the fiercest ratter the Lowers has ever seen!

The Twainfort must be very changed since I saw it last. I wonder if I will recognize it when I see it again. With the 10,000 shav'arvani who bent the knee to Countess Mia after our efforts in the Gray Forest, and now those refugees of clans Bloodsnake, Tyrfall, Brokeblade that come to Riven's borders in the wake of the emancipation of the thralls in the Kennex lands. We will not just be Greenwoods and Rivens anymore. We will be many peoples, bound together within those rivers.mI pledge to help my new countrymen and women as well as I can. Perhaps I shall learn a little of the tongue of tribes of the isles.

I am so incredibly proud, and inspired, by Bliss and her efforts in creating an Evening of Bliss. The night was an absolute success, and one I was honoured to be a part of. The performance was breathtaking, the company exquisite and I think the guests all enjoyed the food provided; rules and all. Simply wonderful, and of course, thanks goes to both the Whispers that attended as well as our charming guests, and to all that presented gifts that have gone to such an important cause.

That was an amazing party, if I do say so myself. I genuinely enjoyed myself and I do not think I've ever laughed so much! Seeing Lord Valerio ridding upon Kael's back while Kael wears a bear costume... I could not have been prouder of him. I think Lady Khanne had a good time, which is frankly the only real measure of success that matters.

I am sad to see my little Bear go, but I think he found a remarkable home in Mae Grayhope. I think he's going to be very happy.

Met up with Joslyn in the training center. It has been years since we've fought each other, and to say that things have changed would be... well an understatement. I won't go into details, but i'd not recommend anyone pissing off Joslyn, would not be wise.

Relationship Note on Khanne

Happy birthday, Lady Khanne. I hope that you enjoyed the festivities in your honor and had some amusement at our play. It was an honor to host it, though Reigna was the true mastermind, and I believe I will feel sore for at least a week from Lord Valerio riding me.

Even writing that seems so wrong.

And yet so right.
