Relationship Note on Calypso

While the city is in an uproar over some rogue bookworm, I want to praise my liege, Duchess Calypso Malvici. She is a gifted tactician and still she deigns to seek out my opinion. I am so humbled by her example. Together we decided not to make out but I still think it was a good meeting.

Due to how this day's gone, I've half a mind to give some bottles away for free.

Scratch whiskey, Your Highness. I'll go for some of Marquis Mydas' Northern vodka. I bet I'd make it through the third drink today.

Relationship Note on Orazio

My mistake, Legate. I was under the impression the man was of the Scholars. My fault for assuming.

I appreciate the correction, and I appreciate you.

Written By Cybele

Feb. 9, 2018, 4:36 p.m.(2/23/1008 AR)

Cybele was asked to write what a Cybele believes.

A Cybele believes the world was created by a Dreamer, whom we call Aion. Cybele believes all the worlds are their dream, and that there are eleven emanations, virtues, ideals in this dream. We call them the gods of the Pantheon, and they are the embodiment of what we can aspire to. They are good things. We pray for their guidance in being the good people. Cybele especially favours Lagoma, our Lady of Change. When Cybele arrived in Arx, Cybele met Mother Mercy Princess Sister Sophie Valardin, who made Cybele see that the gods are not just powerful spirits. Cybele spoke to many wise people, like Heart of the Faith Blessed Father Orazio Legate of Concepts.

Cybele takes comfort in knowing the Lady of Change encourages and purifies, that in devotion to the faith, we can make ourselves better.

This is what Cybele believes. Not to the exclusion of the other gods. Cybele is quite fond of Vellichor also. And of Petrichor. Ask Cybele about Petrichor some time.

Cybele enjoys all the gods, and enjoys seeing their influence in the world.

Relationship Note on Ford

As a small addendum to words I understand that Marquis Ford Kennex has penned:

It must be noted that Master Esra is not a Scholar, nor was he a Scholar at the time his unfortunate ramblings were scattered about the city. He had been removed from that office and that trust before he was expelled from House Wyrmguard due to a pattern of behavior unbecoming of a Disciple of the Faith in general, and a Scholar in specific.

It is highly unlikely that any true Scholar would betray their oaths in such a fashion.

To the Faithful Reader:

There is a reason that the Faithful do not worship one god above all others, or to the exclusion of the others.

Each god of the Pantheon is a virtue to be aspired to, a representation of all that is best in the world, and in humanity. But for humans to live among humanity, each virtue requires the support and moderation of the other virtues. Justice must be willing to acknowledge that people have the capacity to change and grow from their mistakes, but charity and generosity must recognize that to forgive the unrepentant and wicked is to allow those sinners to remain in position to betray and betray again. Freedom of choice must balance with accepting our duty, having the courage to face the consequences of our decisions, and recognizing the obligations we swear to one another.

When one becomes violently obsessed with a simplistic rendering of a single god's purpose and virtue, when one places it above all others and fails to examine one's actions and ideals through all the virtues of the Pantheon, one's thoughts and heart can become shuttered and blinded. It is as if one narrowed one's field of vision to simply one color, and could see only that color in the world. How we would stumble and fall, so blinded!

Each color is needed to understand the full spectrum of creation. Every god holds a virtue to aspire to, and they stand equal and indivisible in our hearts and in our Faith.

We've all had some good times here in Arx, some goofs, some boofs, some laughs, and gaffs. Alternatively we've also had some hard times, some trying times, and some times where it seemed that we as a people were utterly doomed. We're among one of those times.

People are scared, they're worried. Rightfully so, we're on War's doorstep.

So one can imagine that the last thing the people of Arx need during these days of stormy seas, is an outrageous wall of text that was presented as an expose, but instead merely came across as a wildly out of touch hit piece on one of the more beloved residents of our fine city. That doesn't do anything to boost morale, it's not lifting the spirits of thousands upon thousands of citizens who are terrified.

And just to burn down the house you got kicked out of. Out of spite.

I already feel foolish wasting parchment speaking on this, but I was compelled. The last thing people who are in even the remotest position of power or authority should be doing is undermining the confidences the common man or woman have in the people that make decisions that affect their lives and livelihoods. After all, where would we be without them? The lone kings of our very own hill.

The beautiful people of Arx(And they are all beautiful. Especially you, Vanora.) deserve better than to be scared further by a last minute attempt at credibility by spouting any conspiracy you've ever heard.

Anyway, enjoy the rest of your day, Scholar.

Faceless One, Silent Watcher, and Judge, I pray;
Lead me from birth to death, from falsehood to
truth.
Lead me from despair to hope, from fear to trust.
Lead me from hate to love, from war to peace.
Rouse my heart to justice, bring my mind to
clarity.
Open my eyes to wrongs, close my ears to lies.
Help me see, help me hear, help me do as you do;
I am your instrument and I will judge true.

Relationship Note on Esra

I had not laid this to paper before, because I had hoped it would be just an uncomfortable situation and that the individual in question would at some point give sincere apology for his actions, and understand how the act that committed, could have been taken far worse than it was. I was one of, I presume there were others, the peerage assaulted by the former Wyrmguard.

In my library, after Master Esra visited on the pretenses of being there under the auspices of the Scholars to search for a tome, proceeded to with physical actions, accuse me of being abyssal tainted. To the point of flashing a mirror at me and demanding that I douse my palms in the liquid in his flask after he splashed his own hands with such and my floor. I politely declined and informed him that I appreciated his offer but that it was unnecessary.

Master Esra then took it upon himself to throw the liquid in my face, liquid that I did not know the contents of, after commenting 'oh no, not again' with such force that he toppled forward and my face, dress, the half finished books beside me were drenched in what thankfully only turned out to be simply water. It could very well have been something else and permanent damage incurred or worse. Before then, he was a stranger to me. Invited into my home to speak with me when he asked. He stood up at sword point of my personal guard and protesting loudly that he could not comprehend what he had done wrong, was escorted to the edge of the Thrax ward and told that he was unwelcome and never to return.

He is still unwelcome within the ward of Thrax. I thank the appropriate authorities to seeing to the welfare of a man so clearly touched in the head. may he get the help that he so clearly needs. One shouldn't need to fear being assaulted in their own home by individuals of the peerage, formerly or current.

It is my understanding that "obstruction of justice" has a very specific legal meaning, and unless information is being withheld, I do not see the accused actions meeting those criteria.

Relationship Note on Esra

The Faith of the Pantheon recognizes zealotry when we see it. We know fanaticism. It can be a powerful source of good, a fervor that allows us to recognize something more important than self, to be willing to die for the gods if needs be. But we see the times it can lead a man astray, and those are tragedies. When a man becomes so convinced he has the answers, he permits himself to see nothing to contradict it. There is a pride in that, a sort of poisonous arrogance that convinces a man so brittle inside he must build a wall about himself, and hear nothing that would ever threaten the fragile edifice upon which he lives.

We shall pray for Esra. We hope the gods are able to help him see his error. But sometimes, to our sorrow, the only way is to watch their own built walls shatter and come tumbling down.

Much like the rest of Arx, I expect.

A fable.

The Bad Man was hungry for knowledge. "I will know everything!" he said, raising his fists to the sky. He went from scholar to scholar, but he did not like anything they said, he did not like anything at all. One was too boring, and the other told him things that made him uncomfortable. Again and again they told him things he did not want to be true.

He went home. He said to himself, "Is this everything? Am I truly learning what I want to know? I speak and I listen, but I had hoped to dig and unearth different things entirely! I know there are dangerous secrets, and these I would know, but what would it take to know them? Years of living among parchment, vows not to tell anyone, how tiresome! I will have my own secrets and I will spread them and if enough people share and believe them, that will be very like them being true and it will entertain me besides!"

So the Bad Man retired to his desk and entertained himself immensely, but his mind stayed small, and loveless, loveless stayed he.

I made five masks for the ball! Some are orders and two were just things I wanted to make. Animal masks are fun to make. But I did work really hard on such. I wasn't going to do myself, but then there was this scholar named Derovai was got me mask and said I should. So maybe I will, I don't know. It will be so many people though! It might be fun to see my costumes being worn though.
