I become adamant about my lack of interest in marriage, and the offers to 'help find a suitable mate' start to pick up.

I have an entire Guild to take care of, and who take are of me. I'm perfectly fine, I promise.

....no, scholar, I didn't mean like -that-...!

Stop laughing!

I must publicly commend House Saik for their efforts in preparing for the Setarco ground campaign in defense. Baron Estaban, Baroness Lucita, Lord Marcos and Dame Loela of their service are all pitching in to the battle plan and special missions full throttle.

A credit to their lieges, the Lyceum and the Compact.

Spring has sprung! Change is in the air and the birds return, as well as the plants begin to awaken in the Botanical Gardens!

I think it might be time to try to find a husband now. And maybe write some poetry and song and be inspired. Oh, and to study of course!

Blessed Roran was kind enough to let me help host First Bloom. It had been a long time, far too long, since I left the city walls purely to interact with nature, the forest that was for a time my happiest home. I wondered if the cottage was still standing; if any of my things or Petrae's still remained there. Our gardens and herb beds are no doubt overgrown, being taken back by the more traditional flora.

It makes sense that Petrae, a devoted of Lagoma, brought about all of the changes in my life. And they have all been difficult, painful. When she was killed it damned near killed me too. Sometimes I think it still might. But it all brought me to the place I am now, which...well, it's better than the place I was headed.

I'm not sure where I was going with this except I still miss her more than I can possibly say.

Archlector Roran did well honoring Our Lady of Change in todays' First Bloom rite to mark the passing of the season from Winter into Spring.

Let us not forget that while this celebration marks the temporal changing of seasons, Lagoma - our goddess of change - represents growth and change for the better.

Let not the meaning of First Bloom be confined to simple weather. Take heed: the seed of change can root in our minds and hearts on any given day.

Honor the goddess by seeking to improve your lot and being active in accomplishing the betterment you would like to see in your lives and world.

Lagoma is an ever active goddess and she is honored by participation - not idle prayer - in the world around you that would bring a brighter future.

We. Will. Not. Be. Quenched. This is the mantra that I have been repeating over and over as I try to stay away a darkness that threatens to consume me. I can only hope that spending time in the temple of the Thirteenth will help me find some semblance of balance again, to tame the flame that burns within me, not so much to let it smolder and die, but to allow the spark to remain until such a time as there is reason to remind others why the Igniseri are called the Flames, and why messing with our family might just get you burned.

Relationship Note on Thorley

The First Blossom Festival was beautiful and I was lucky enough to go with Thorley. Despite the things to come I decided to take a planter with me. When I am away with the Blades I know my brother will tend it for me. I do love green growing things. So it is likely no surprise that a tree was planted as well.

In good company Thorley and I planted an oak sapling. He gave it an old sea blessing of shells and water. For my own part I asked the spirits to bless the tree. And let it grow tall and strong and it's roots deep and thick. I plan to visit it again as it grows. Perhaps so I do not lose it I will leave a market of some kind. The wood is still far too soft and young for marking.

The festival brought with it mirth and, for me, great surprise in numerous ways. I met the King and was introduced even. To be honest I'm pretty sure I could have made a tomato jealous when I looked up and saw him there. For all my soldier training I am no lady or skilled in etiquette. But I think I deported myself properly before his Majesty.

I look forward to see our planting grow.

Relationship Note on Violet

Went to the bloom festival with Violet last night.

We planted a tree - I gave it some of the old blessings from home.

A seashell - May it grow strong and stand against the storm.

A shrimp's shell - May it grow tall and unwavering in the wind.

A tortoise shell - May the shipwright find it when it is ready and know that it will be a steady keel.

Mangata's Blessed Water - May Mangata bring it further life and strength to serve on her waves.

I've been meeting some exciting people, this week. Striking a friendship with some masters of their trade and just getting to know others is a welcome distraction from thinking about the war. At this point I just want to get through it.

I couldn't make it to First Bloom. (I'm very sad about this).
But! I have placed some white lilies in the forest in celebration.
It still counts a day later right?

While The Spirits in our ward is not quite the same as being around the hearth in Farhaven, it is close. Gathering there with family and friends leads to the same trading of stories, of laughing and drinking, of exciting news and of being together to simply enjoy being together - even as the shadows lurk just beyond our reach. To have these moments together are precious, especially with what may come, and I am ever so grateful for them.

Went to First Bloom today. It's about changes and new starts. So I made one.

I sucked it up and asked a question that I didn't particularly want the answer to but has been on my mind for days. And I owe someone a big apology.

That would have been embarrassing enough to do in private, but of course I was stupid and decided to ask in the middle of a crowd, and Gods it was mortifying when it seemed like everyone was looking on. This is what excessive pride and bad timing get you, and it's a fair enough lesson... even if I could have wished one of those holes was big enough to crawl into.

<There's a couple of ink splotches dripped onto the page>

His Majesty came and planted a tree near mine and others, and asked what I intended to name mine. Which, I confess, I had forgotten in the course of things. Harren, was the first thing I could think of, and I don't think he would be offended by it. His Majesty liked it enough to suggest to Lady Darkwood she should name hers Harren.

Suffice to say there's now an oak, an elm, and a basswood all named after him. Planted by his Majesty, Lady Emily Darkwood, and myself respectively. May they live long and grow strong.

The first Kennex I can tolerate. This man has shown that he can get his hands on information of use to others. Communicating it can sometimes be an issue but that's as much the receiver's fault as anyone's, sometimes.

Relationship Note on Reigna

I am overjoyed at Countess Reigna's appointment as master of the Physicians Guild. She has been a force for healers inside of Arx, and will serve with distinction in the role.

Between Countess Reigna's appointment as guildmaster and her husband's appointment as commander in the Ministry of Defense, the Keatons are quite the power couple in the Capital.

I've joined with Cassima Thrax and Sameera Coldain for an upcoming benefit in support of the war effort. They're going to sponsor an auction during the event for relief, while my portion will be a little different.

I'm going to create vouchers in exchange for lessons, which will be available via lottery.

Do you want to get a riding lesson from His Majesty's very own Master of Horses? Bid on a voucher for a lesson with Master Tristan.

Do you want a tutorial on strategy and war tactics, to increase your athletic ability, or experience a sword lesson with a former Lord Commander of the King's Own? Bid on a voucher for a lesson with Marquis Rymarr Deepwood.

Do you want a tutorial on the art and craft of diplomacy? Bid on a voucher for a lesson with me.

And so on, and so forth.

I'm hoping to solicit willingness to offer skills from a wide variety of skills, ranging from military to social to artistic to academic.

Knowledge should always be valued.

I wish to take a moment to give thanks to the Lady Eirene Malvici. She is healer of extraordinary talent and has served the Physicians Guild with honor and distinction. She taught me important lessons, helped make me a better doctor than I was. I am honored beyond the ability to say, that she chose me as her successor. She is a strong, capable and fierce woman and I have the utmost respect for her.

I am looking forward to the challenges ahead and I can only hope to honor her legacy and continue along the path she forged towards success.

For the health of all of Arx, in the name of the Lady of Change, by her healing light are we saved.

Relationship Note on Eirene

I consider myself blessed to count Lady Eirene Malvici as both friend and colleague. Although she leaves the Physicians Guild in the capable hands of Countess Reigna Keaton -- an appointment that is well-deserved -- I am the utmost certain that her excellence shall continue in her service as Crown Minister of Health.
