Let me tell you a story, Scholar, about the one and only time I have seen my sister blush.
She was 12, I think, and his name was Sir Davin. He was the most glorious of wandering knights, with hair of tawny perfection and a body you'd have had to be dead not to appreciate.
Someone (I really couldn't say who it was that would do such a thing) let slip that the beautiful Sir Davin bathed entirely naked in the river running just outside Greenhaven at the same time every morning. That same someone (again, identity unknown to me) was on hand the very next morning to catch Marian Greenmarch in the underbrush along the river, and she wasn't looking for grubs, I'll tell you that much!
Someone (horrible person) thought it might be prudent to alert the unsuspecting paragon, Sir Davin, of Marian's presence by tossing large rocks at the brush.
Scholar, when she stumbled out of those bushes to confront the naked knight, her cheeks were brighter than her hair. It was glorious. Well worth the beating someone got later that day for being the worst little sister ever to walk the land.

There is no greater feeling than the ability to explore some place new, especially a place that's deeply rooted in history. Or, undertaking a journey that seems to have incredible odds stacked against you, and coming away from it safely. These are some of the things it means to be an Explorer, and yet so much more too. I hope that I get to discover a great many more things in the coming months, and even get to share those experiences with the young one that grows within me. What better way to grow the future's next little Explorer than to continue to do what one loves best?
But, there I go getting wordy. A piece of advice to future Explorers... bring the unexpected with you in your preparations. Sometimes, you never know when a plush fox, a carved dragon figurine, a few books, pie, some mead, and tea might mean to you or others while out on your journey. Not in any particular order, of course. And, not specifically those items. Make your own choices of unexpected things to bring, along with the usual Explorer gear.
Now I must prepare myself for my next great adventure. I will have to see who can teach me a bit more about linguistics so I can learn a few more languages. An Explorer's preparations never end.

As beautiful, brave and gracious a companion as I could have asked for in exploring the wonders of the shadow carnival.
At another of these large Lycene affairs a couple years back, I met one of my dearest friends while in the company of another who was there with me tonight as well. I think that might bode well for bonds forged amid such fantasy and frivolity. I hope that it does.

I attended my first Shadow Carnival and got to spend the evening with one of my most cherished friends and her husband. It is never a dull moment when it is spent with Lady Cadenza.
The Shadow Carnival itself was wonderful, too. I got to reach my hand into the murky unknown and pull out a little treasure. Not sure what I shall do with it, but it is a nice keepsake from a night of shadows and mystery.

Arx is almost never boring. I've missed the city. Though before I left to go home, I missed the North. Mmind just never made up.

I am many things that I never thought I could achieve a scant few years ago on the farm. I recognize that the trust I've been given is a sign of how much I've grown, but I am still flawed. I have no illusions I am my best self, but I strive to be someone better again and again. I challenge myself to do things that arn't easy because they arn't easy, again and again.
It is part of the the way I've been taunt the faith, that we acknowledge our flaws. We embrace them, grow past them if we can, but know who we are.
Yet who I am feels like it has kept changing for a long time. Though I've had more successes, my mind is drawn to the failures. The ways I've let people down, the ways that has come back to haunt me that I never expected they would.
Perhaps I'm sounding like I want reassurances, I don't. At the same time I'm not sure what I do want. I struggle with the words to describe it, and fail to find them. I don't know what others feel, but I hope I've never drug another to this place. I hope I never will.

I attended the Lenosian Shadow Carnival tonight. It was grand and decadent and filled with many webs in the process of being woven, like all the best Lycene parties.
I won a little coin, met a few interesting people (including some of whom I'm now related to), and left in possession of all my appendages. Including my head, so I'm well ahead of some. Fine night, all told.
