Business progresses, and I can find no complaints with the work. Slower than the weeks leading up to the conflict, but I think that this is good. It's less rush and more time to focus on quality efforts.

That said, the increased price of alaricite makes me rethink and have to further plan my own learning of the metal.

It's been a busy week.
- Met with the Baroness-Regent and trained her two dogs
- Met with Lord Marcos, discussed our homestead back in the Greenlands, and sparred in the ring. Brier won. Out of all of us.
- Lord Karadoc thanked me for speaking well of his recompense to the Baroness-Regent
- Many discussions on the Lodge.

I suppose I should, as a Knight, find someone to tutor more closely. Sadly, Brier takes up most of my time in that regard.

I've nothing against accountants. Wonderful people, all of them, they help me keep the Guild running as smoothly as it does, among others.

But after every meeting? I seem to need a drag and a drink. Several.

Scholar, are my curls going white?

Soooo, note to self stop freaking out and breathing is a good thing. Other note to self, fighting bare handed is FUN! And tickling is a perfectly acceptable form of combat. But licking is just gross.

Relationship Note on Vera

Serving my niece, Vera and House Melaeris is like being a fish in water. It is my purpose and I only hope to do so for many more years.

There's a new apprentice at the bakery I pass on my way to the archery grounds. She's an excitable thing, reminds me of a puppy in the constant stages of play. Baking, as I understand it, is a meticulous process and less like 'cooking' than you'd think. Cooking can allow for dashes and sprinklings and pinches of various ingredients. Such behavior is less acceptable at a bakery.

She came up to me this morning, a new pie in hand. She seems to think my sense of smell is keener in her favor. She was wrong. She ran away crying as I tried to stop gagging; her pie smelled like cinnamon flavored wee. It was even more unfortunate that she left the pie there, in the grass, split open.

The baker saved me. He patted me on the shoulder and gave me something to erase the horror that was the sensory experience of that first experimental pie.

"I warned her," he sighed at me after my fourth piece of something called 'chocolate creme pie'. "I told her, it's not like cookied, to measure and sift and-"

Ah well. She'll do better, I'm certain. For now, though, I'm going to take a different route to the training center. My nose can't take another assault like that.

There is little to write, business is good. I have been thinking of taking on a squire now that the situation appears to be resolved. It would be good to hire someone whom is good with money.

It's been an interesting fortnight. A break from commissions, pride in my assistants for managing to put out work that I know is impeccable, then Morrighan surprising me with a stunning dress and a veiled invitation to the Carnival. I say 'veiled' because, well, it had a distinct undertone of 'you better come with me or else' to it.

The Carnival was spectacular, a night of amazing company and singular delights. I met new people, regaled with old friends, and ended it on a very productive note.

Oh hey white journal. It's been a while since we've hung out. I've come up with a brilliant new idea that I want to tell you about. I'm going to put together a picnic in the Lowers. A picnic for anyone to attend! It's going to be called Hazy Days Recreational Picnic. I plan to make sure everyone has a truly relaxing, pleasant time. There will be some of the best unique treats that the Lowers has to offer. People can come sample *or* purchase the delights that will be featured.

I'm going to have to find some bakers that will work with me on this one. I can provide the special mystery ingredients but I'm a shit cook.

In the short time since my arrival in Arx, I have been back and forth from the great archives several times, but have only now sought to add my first entry in this new volume of my Whites. As I'm sure any number of people before me have observed, the great city is far larger than I had imagined and not at all what I expected. It is a strange and intimidating place, but I have managed to discover little notes of Stonehearth here and there; familiar faces and spaces scattered throughout the sprawl that makes the city seem less foreign. There is a particular pleasure in its diversity. While I know that almost all of my former people have been returned to the earth, sometimes I will catch the clip of a phrase or a half-whispered conversation in my mother tongue and I will be reminded of my life before House Stonewood gifted me with their mercy. Arx is a great city of ghosts.

Repeatedly doing the exact same things that have failed you over and over and over does not mean you are persistent.

It means you're probably stupid.

Finally something to do...

I've been given permissions to return to the North and scout some areas within the Whitehold domain which have been left untended during the wars. I plan to seek my cousin and sisters help along with some of the Knights of the city. My Uncle seems to hope I will develop a relationship with the Knights and Champion, mayhap trying to push me to expand my horizons. Who is to guess.

Thus far I wish to seek out Dame Morrighan, Sir Jordan, my sister Khanne, my cousin Brianna, and perhaps Valery or Violet.

There has been quite a whirlwind of activity lately! I had a fantastic time at the Carnival the other night. There was an entire maze of mirrors! Hundreds of Sabellas twirling and laughing and dancing in alignment! And I got to spend time with Marquessa Malespero who it turns out is a delightful companion whether one is lost or not. I went to her gallery opening and was quite impressed with the art on display. Several haunted my dreams, actually. And I went to the Nox'alfar embassy opening like the rest of Arx and got to see Prince Tyrval, my great, great, great, great--well you get the idea--grandfather, if only from across a couch. Made of blood. It was definitely an interesting evening! And I hosted a patron/protege fair where I believe we made at least one match between people and I got to talk about how amazing my two patrons are.

I also feel like I've met dozens of people new to Arx as well--the entire Fieldstone family, it feels like, has come to town and they are all utterly delightful.

And to top off an utterly fantastic week I had word that there is more good news on the horizon! I am not sure exactly who is responsible for it, but I am eternally grateful to whatever caused things to turn out well! Or start to turn out well. I remain ever hopeful!

This week just goes to show how glorious life can be!

Relationship Note on Paige

Ohhh, what to say about my cousin?

So many comment on her beauty, or her toughness of body...Gods, so many comment on her body that it makes me want to tear my hair out. I am so happy she is old enough to handle her own issues in that arena, even if her perspective could use some work...

No, what I remember is her spirit. Oh, now /that/ is her best feature, her defining attribute. It is a burning flame that cannot be contained by hearth and home, and that has been the case since my first memories of her, declaring her ambitions to her father and mine. To leave home, to join the Militia, and to become a Huntsman. To range the wilds, bringing justice to those who knew none. To be wild and free, but still in service to a higher cause.

Of course, my uncle and my father objected. Sternly. And so I did not see her again while I grew up. I hated her for that, not knowing how hard she tried to speak to us. To visit. How my uncle blocked her efforts out of anger. Part of me hates him for denying that connection while I was growing up, perhaps out of fear I would join her. Joke's on him, right?

But now I see her again, and her fierce flame still burns bright. You can see it, in her speech, in her movements, and in her eyes, if one looks close enough. And in her smile. That little smile that seems like she knows something you don't, and revels not in the advantage, but the joy of keeping one step ahead of her quarry. She is a singularly unique person, and deserves the best because of that.

God help the men of Arx. And Gods have mercy on her prey. Because she won't.
