My efforts towards addressing the young poor of the city seem to be moving well.

I may have prejudged my new peers more than I ought to have. It does not take much convincing to have them open their coffers or doors to children in need. This is a good thing.

Perhaps it is a sign of how times have changed.

Not that the poor have any reason to trust them. Or me. But if this enterprise is as successful as it can be, perhaps there is hope that a bridge between the commons and the nobility can be built.

That would be worth more than anything I have ever done.

If you live long enough, you come to realize how full of utter trash most people are. Indignant when others engage in behaviors they believe are wrong, they are nevertheless quite willing to ignore their own personal failings. More than that, once such failings are pointed out to them, people will insist, in their intractable delusion, that those things never even happened.

I found out today my father read my books.

He made a joke about them making fantastic propaganda material.

Not going back to my parents' house for a while. His pride was completely unnerving.

Recent events have meant new allies and new friends. It is all together satisfactory to work towards a common goal, combining different talents in the most efficient of manner.

It's not so bad sharing a drink and a laugh, either.

S-so like, you know, there I was...right? Fuckin' slurry of these pepper-shit jackrabbit dog-fuckers, yeah? So like, fifteen of them, probably, maybe, I dunno - but - I DO KNOW, that these lil' boot-hugging flatfooted dirt-eaters were trying to cheat, right? Dice, man, dice! Keep up! So like, Mama Gold loves me nice and My Friend too, which at the time they didn't know, but anyways, me and this group of kids playin' this dice game right? Buncha little knife-wieldin' ankle-slicing lettuce-eaters! They cheat. They still lose. They accuse ME of chea-- well, no I don't cheat why would I cheat? What kind of question is that?!

Yeah, so, there's this bra-- well, yeah I fucked up these little hamstring-cutters! Have you seriously never seen the packs of kids in the Lowers, man? Buncha lil goblins.

What in the ever-loving fuck is wrong with the nobility these days?

It has been quite some time since I've written anything for the sake of pleasure but I keep hearing about a story of a Salacious Baron or is it a salacious breadcrumb?

While it might seem to others that I am quite reserved and prim, it is not beneath me to indulge in a tale (or two) of romance. There was a time I wrote love letters for those who for a lack of better terms could not get the quill up and suffered tremendously with the ability to convey with words exactly how they felt. Actually, that was not the problem. They knew exactly what they felt but lacked the finesse of waxing poetic.

But I digress, are these books really -that- good? Should I attempt to get my hands on a copy? Will I be thoroughly entertained? Inquiring minds...

I do not consider myself someone who takes unnecessary risks. I prefer perfectly calculated moves. Having said that, the leap I've taken today is by far the riskiest and potentially the most rewarding.

Today the Legate of the Lost found me,
And with him I felt time collapse three years back, to the first time I tasted violence on the field,

Death is strange on the battlefield. The Abandoned don't kill like men of the Compact do, they make it fast. They leave you little wait between the now and the then. I got a good look at their handiwork after it was all said and done. Men strewn in pieces. Whole parts, legs, arms, bodies split in seams most unnatural. Instant death. Swing, head gone! And the body crumples and stiffens. Most of the dead looked like that, like they'd just been scared and sat frozen in their embarrassment. Most looked nothing like men at all. A man should look asleep when he's dead, don't you agree, Scholar?

That's how these years suffering for my past transgressions felt, altogether my fault. Like a slow death.

In war, few ever do receive the courtesy of a slow death, of a pause to get ready and make themselves comfortable and find peace, to curl up into a ball and depart this place in a similar shape to how they'd come in.

But I will say one man, taken apart at the beltline, managed to hang on. I found him myself, huddling the shredded remains of his Thraxian tabard. I told him to close his eyes because I thought if he went to sleep maybe the Queen'd wake up. But he didn't go to sleep. He just kept breathing, and talking. Talking about this dog he had as a boy, and how he got upset when his father slaughtered him for biting the neighbor's daughter. Talked about a girl, and then a wife, and a mother. Talked about two mothers, actually.

I did not know half a man could live for so long.

For a long while I felt like this man, legless. Like a torso twisting, turning and rolling around on the mud, whose foundations were swooped out from under him after the inadvertent troubles brought on to me for speaking on matters I didn't understand. I am thankful for the Faith's forgiveness, and I hope to have learned this valuable lesson to heart.

We rowed up the Grey River, intermittently fished, and took up multiple crates with prepared supplies from the Defense Laboratory (Arx) to my alchemy/apothecary/security/survival shop "Copper and Tellurium" which is still thriving in Cascade Springs (the Halfshav township built up around the Great Northern Shrine of Mangata).

I am beyond blessed and so lucky that I always have so many fantastic people as hired help at both busy locations. Thank you for all you do.

The living area (above said shop) conveniently serves as a temporary home for our vacation stay, the colder weather is so nice, and the Love of my Life and Sir Floppington are right here with me, too. So wonderful!

[ @Arx : On Honor Walk Central, the back yard behind the Defense Lab is apparently operating even now with all those Bibacious Assistants and Teetotalling Gardeners continually working on their respective projects. ]

Arx.
The largest city I've ever seen, and larger by far than any city needs be. Folk who dwell out of sight of the sea begin to stink of rats and urine, or perhaps the stench of today was owed to so many thousands baking in the heat. Whatever the cause, I long for the cold East wind already. Tyde Tower was hospitable, the Tyde herself near to bursting with child, but otherwise much the same as years past, when the Darkness Rose in the Deeps, and a handful of perfumed Arvani came before the King of Eswynd to bid us join or die.

We joined the Tyde, years ago, before the great battles, and we lived.

Soon there will be new throats to cut, and battles to fight, for even with the Deeps laid low, it is the doom of the world that it remains full of men, and we have ever been a quarrelsome race. I do not enjoy the prospect of dwelling among Thraxians, let alone Mainlanders, but for such wants, the wind does not care.

Fifty?
Seven generations?
Thirteen?

Scholar.

I have a question about honor. I made a new friend. One who signs their letters with honor holds. But, I caught them today in bold face lie. A lie over something little. Something that didn't need a lie. The truth came out and I'm hurt that I was betrayed.

Now I am question their honor. Are they still considered honorable even if caught in a lie? We're they honorable to start with? Is there any reason one should lie? At what point is a lie acceptable?

Relationship Note on Tanith

I found myself wandering in the Lowers, as one does, to Tanith's bakery. Now, the Salacious Baker always has the best goodies in stock and I know that Miss Tanith makes them with love. Even before I got with child I loved eating her sweets. But there are also books for sale there. I was surprised when I happened upon a new series much like the Salacious Baron! These are more lascivious in nature, however... I do recommend stopping by the bakery and purchasing some of Tanith's baked goods, and maybe purchasing the books as well if you liked the Salacious Baker! ...These are even more titillating if I do say so myself.

Please, do not be alarmed when I do not do as I usually do at parties, since my diet is changing. Plain teas. Plain water. No bread. No dessert. No fruits (besides berries which originate North of Arx). Thank you for understanding!
