Relationship Note on Silas

He recently was made noble as a Baron. I am hoping that he is able to do quite a bit in his new position.

I fought with him and for him on the battlements. I am happy that he is safe.

Another battle I survived, when likelihood I should have fallen.

Yet I emerged without a scratch on my form. Someone must be looking out for me, or I'm incredibly lucky.

Regardless, we lost too many in this fight. Beyond the count of grief. Let not a single soul pass from this world without being given the glory they are due.

Relationship Note on Estaban

I fought with him and Aiden at Seawatch during the siege. He is an honorable and wonderful nobleman. I am happy that he was well cared for after the battle.

We faced the full strength of Brand today. We faced the might of the darkness that assembled against us and threw us down with hopelessness at almost every turn. Yet with every turn, we rose triumphant in courage, we rose triumphant in strength.

We won. Against all odds, we won.

Let our children, and their children's children, hold this day in reverence.

Document the sixteenth:

Have we won?
The future stretches out before us and we can but count the cost
Steady, stoic, cleaning blades and filling holes
How much did you pay? How much have you lost?

Where, your children?
The currency we used to pay our debt; your daughter and your son
How much did you pay? How much have you lost?
But, we have won

There are times when I think perhaps I should have made father let train in weapons. Being in the midst of a huge and bloody battle without so much as a dagger for protection. But then the battle ends, and I see all the dead, all the wounded. And it makes me glad that I was trained to heal instead. Bringing relief from suffering is a hugely gratifying experience.

Oh, and thank you all the people that made sure we didn't die in some horrendous fashion!

My soul is lighter too. I look forward to seeing Semiramis again.

On another note, blood loss and herbal teas have made me quite bold in my messages.
I suppose it's my turn to blush.

It's remarkably hard to get blood out of your ears when it gets good and in there. Like when you go swimming, and you can't get water out? And you make that weird sound to try and get your ear to pop for a while before you realize it's water? It's like that, but stickier.

I can not recall in all my time as General of Southport a more singular and fluid movement of unity in the Compact as we have witnessed today. Each ward defended fiercely. Each commander leading responsibly. Each soldier fighting with all their might. And all to the same goal.

I will continue to hold my faith in humanity and in the sharp steel we wield. Through these things, all is made possible.

We won.

And yes, that is glorious, and righteous, and all the words that pretty bards will begin to ascribe to it as the days pass.

But will they speak of brother Sigvald, who died with shav arrows in his throat before the battle even truly began?

Will they speak of disciple Dorath, who died defending the body of his slain cousin Perrin, despite orders to keep to the line?

Unlikely. They will not relate faces melting before the blow of a club, or of the choking screams of the dying. Those things are not for bards. They are for soldiers.

We won. And that is as it must be, and how the Gods will it. And it is well. But fifteen hundred of my knights will never see another dawn, and ten thousand of the Compact soldiers. As we celebrate? Lift your glass to those thousands of small moments, lost to the bards. But never to us.

I am humbled to have survived another battle. I will train harder, pray deeper, and open my heart a little more. We took too many losses, I know I am a greedy soul to be thankful my family and those I've come to love are among the living. There will be many who grieve tonight. My heart goes to them.

May your hopes find safe harbors.

The gate is shattered. So many people died in that place, in the homes near it, and in the carnage that ensued in the battle. I found thralls, the elderly, and children among the dead. None of them deserved what happened.

It is a terrible injustice that Tolamar Brand inflicted upon our people, and one death is not enough punishment. I can only hope that the fate he finds at the hands of the gods is agonizing enough to pay for the innocents who died in the city.

We sustain losses. We rebuild.

We lose brothers. We remember.

I'm sorry... I really don't know what to say in rememberance.

I'm sorry Kasim.

I'm sorry Castor.

I won't cry for the loss, because we all know that it was for the right reasons.

The blood still runs in the street and the dust is beginning to settle. People are howling their victory to the gods and the sky and it's a good day. And still, my head strays to those nearest to me, my heart hopes everyone is alright. Even then, I search for my hammer and a pocket of nails, a tall person with broad shoulders to help with the lifting.

Our work of rebuilding has just begun, but for now, it's a good night to breathe.

Relationship Note on Darren

Sherrod would be so very proud of his son for his success in this battle against Brand's Silent army. Things looked grim for a while up in the Redrain Ward, but we prevailed and we were victorious. There's something admirable and awe inspiring about a leader that out of nowhere starts singing. In the middle of war, surrounded by carnage and bloodshed with allies and foes falling left and right, he just..starts singing. Songs of glory and war. What's more? Many of the soldiers joined, including myself. It was hard not to. It was one of those moments that sends chills down your spine and gives you goosebumps by how fucking amazing it is. I'll gladly fight beside Darren any day.
