We held the day.

Well, and by 'we' and I mean the collective forces of Arx held the day; I don't delude myself into thinking my sword made much difference at the Seawatch Gate, and gods know I was wearing more of my own blood than that of the enemies by the end.

But we, the people of Arx -- of the Compact, maybe even of Arvum, given the decisive role that the former Abandoned who bent the knee to Samantha played -- held the day. We all stood together, faced the darkness, and turned back the tide. And if the paladins struck the killing blow, the time to do so was bought by thousands of other blades, and lives, on the battlefield.

I can only hope this stands as a reminder of what the Compact was founded to be -- and what a difference we can make when we DO stand together.

(Sadly, I suspect we will forget it all too soon, and turn back to quarreling amongst ourselves; centuries of history -- on Arvum and elsewhere -- suggest that's simply human nature.)

Orathy and the boys stood with me at The Pit today. We fought brave and fought hard, but we're not soldiers. Orathy held his own and more, trying to keep the boys in line at the same time. We lost more than a few. In the end, we won the day, but we won't be able to count on that kind of help again. Work to be done now.

When the actions of another lack for obvious motive, I find the explanation often lies in some thing that is missing. The demand of respect unearned may speak to a lack of security. The desire to marshal authority unto oneself may speak to a lack of virility. And jealousy? Well.

I am put more and more to mind of the instructions of the Thirteenth- to reflect on the flaws in our characters. For myself certainly wrath. A lack of compassion, might be? I have witnessed some truly wronged forgive their transgressors, refusing to allow the blow struck the power to control their reactions. A powerful thing to witness, which I have a hard time seeing past naming weakness or fear. But where does that lead, then? To only ever wish dark ends upon a growing field of foes? To leave a crimson trail in your wake?

Who would lead me to be? A frightening thought.

No matter what tomorrow might bring, or where any of us might end up or how might change, you are the Sister of my heart and the truest sibling I have ever known. I am certain that we share a spirit, and that we shall always remain so connected, my dearest Aislin.

- For this week, create large painting of Lower Boroughs struggle, incorporating live subjects as well. Excluding myself. Self-portraits are stupid.
- Begin an actual Rite of Jayus. For the first time. In my life.
- Begin designs for (three) masks, my first.
- For the week after, for the week after, actually stock my shop, the shop that was once my mother's and that I have terribly neglected.
- For the week after, go through the hoary pile of requests, free or no, mine or others', that I have not fulfilled.
- The siege is over. Time to live as if we are, in fact, alive.

Relationship Note on Greer

When I was a little girl, I remember my mother being so excited to dress me up like a little doll and take me with her to sell her baked goods at the market. It was torture. The dresses and the re-curling of my hair just so I looked presentable in public when all I really wanted to do was go climb trees and get dirty while digging around for buried treasure. She, my mother, is an amazing baker. She is also the sweetest person in the whole wide world. It's no surprise then that my father fell for her and they had what seems like a million children. Maybe it's seven, give or take. I was not a very good daughter, I think. I gave her trouble when she just wanted me to be with her and do things like her. It broke her heart when I told her I wanted to be like dad. Like all children, I didn't think about the choice of my words nor did I care how they affected her. It was my father who healed her heart and mended the rift I caused between us.

My father is an amazing man. There's no bullshit to him. What you see is what you get and he's the most hardworking man I've ever known. He took me under his wing not only to assuage my mother, but to give me purpose. Thank you, dad, for all you've done for me. I'm not sure where I'd be without you.

There are so many who's bravery throughout this war I wish to talk about. And I will when I have been able to think back and meditate and express myself more succinctly and eloquently.

But there was thing that I remember vividly of the battle on the western ramparts last night. Towards the end of the fighting, I lead a small group to push a formorian from the walls and send it tumbling to the ground below. Among those those a young footman who I had shielded earlier in the fight. As the monstrous abomination went tumbling over the side he defiantly yelled, and I quote:

"DIE YOU MIME FUCKING TWAT BISCUIT!"

Then he just looked at me and smiled very widely.

He was very proud that he thought to say that in the heat of combat.

It's funny how my "betters" think that it's alright to go from insulting you to threatening you. Hilarious, really.

The end of the siege means end of countless hours in the forge. It means I actually have a moment to myself and this is what I chose to do! Figures. But in all seriousness, to the men, women, and children of Arx, to everyone who came together to fight for our freedom, for our lives, I thank you and salute you. My fingers are worked to the bones with all the armor my forge has made these last few months and weeks; Armor that was already created that needed some refinement, and those fancy ass pieces of rubicund that just seem to gleam something eerie despite being enameled. They are my favorite. No, it's not because they're red... Okay maybe because they're red. I've never felt more proud to be an Arxian. Cheers to you all!

So this would be ... Knight-Officer Serafine Velenosa?

Silas, what were you thinking?

Thanks.

On the ramparts I meet a brave young prince, I had meet him once at a event that Archduke Niccolo had. I had asked to make the tide breaker so I had the young Prince dance with my sister Lady Arcelia.

I think it was the Gods who had put us together once again so that I could watch his back and he mine. His family should be proud of him, he found with great courage and great heart.

This one of the reasons why I could not allow for the monster to take him, I did not think of myself or my safety all I could think of was not losing such a brave soul who has a promising future.

This one came into the shop looking to get a dress and lowcut boots. I helped her and now she has asked that I teach her my language. I am not sure about this, But I have agreed to help so long as she also learns some of our ways. She seems to want to explore and believes it will help her, I guess only the spirits know if she will do well in this path. But perhaps she is made for it.

Based on my experience, it takes approximately five flasks of whiskey and one stunningly intelligent, gorgeous woman as your date to suffer through a Valardin wedding ceremony in Sanctum. You're welcome, reader, for the tip, in the event you ever have to attend one yourself.

Of course, in the event you /are/ attending a wedding ceremony in Sanctum in the near future, do be careful of the mutant things that creep in the forest. Ensure your party is equipped with at least one alarcite-wielding Lady, one Greenmarcher-turned-Prince archer, one world-exploring Griffin, one new bride, one elk-riding shaman warrioress, and one ass-kicking Princess on horseback and you will do just fine. Just fine, indeed.

I really should've known better than to toil with Royals. I would think without the hardy upbringing, they wouldn't hit as hard as they do. Well fuck me, even the ladies are leaving me dented. I need to sharpen my teeth on some proper etiquette it seems.
