Relationship Note on Fergus
A new brother-in-law. Gruff, with a negative etiquette rating! I can't wait to introduce him to the Valardin Manor dining room. But most importantly, he makes Marian happy. Which means we welcome him with open arms. And I get to learn a lot of new swear words.
I think the scholars are also going to cringe at what this does to the family tree, since I am married to her cousin. So that will make our children cousins twice to her children. First cousins through the web of marriages, and then second cousins (??) by blood?

I always thought it was spring time that brought love in the air - leave it to the Redrain to prove me wrong. Of course, there has never been a happier occasion or more of a willingness to be wrong. I love love. I love witnessing it and the reaffirmation that it exists in our world. As a Whisper I have seen more than my fare share of unhappy unions, so to see so many matches made of love is rare and beautiful and I hope that time blesses you all with kindness and patience.

I've recently had tea with a number of the finest individuals the Compact has to offer. Overall the refinement and manners of those in attendance proved to be impeccable and our hostess proved to be purely exquisite. The future queen of the Compact, Lady Symonesse Marin'luna, was a most gracious hostess to her guests and she instilled in me hope for the future alliance between the Compact and the Nox'alfar.
I presented her with a humble gift in welcome to the city and she seemed quite excited to have received it. Striking, delightful, and altogether phenomenal. She surely made an impression on myself and I suspect she'll make one on us all with time!

Relationship Note on Fatima
As Keaton Hall nears completion, I cannot help but reflect on those who have aided either directly or indirectly in its creation. One particular individual, Princess Fatima Thrax, Voice of Thrax, was a pleasure to negotiate with in trade dealings and always swift and fair. I will remember this in my future dealings. I will also remember that invitation to dinner.

Family dinner was delightful, doubly so for the events prior to it. It's been a little over a year since I moved to the city of Arx at the request of Lady General Calypso. A year of getting to be close to my cousins again, a year of staying in one city more than traveling about as I had become accustomed to. There are days I miss my wandering, but I have learned so much staying close to the family and meeting people I would likely not often cross paths with so often at sea. I look forward to what my next year in Arx will bring, with any luck more family to hold dear as it seems my cousins are all looking to wed.

The ship is a day away from Arx. I have had time on the deck, lounging about and regaining the colour of my skin, putting weight back on and spending some time thinking about what the future that has has it's framework laid out for me. At no point in the years that I have pledged service to Pravus and the Inquisition did I think that I would be more than chief minister. Never once did I really see myself as more than the son of a cobbler who couldn't keep him mouth shut enough to not offend.
I learned a great deal from that. Things that my brothers failed to heed and cost them their lives. I presume it has cost them both their lives. But now the cobblers son is a Count. Bravura is beautiful and I opted to not reveal myself as I walked it's streets to take the pulse of it. To see for myself how the city is handling itself in the wake of the leadership change. These people are the ones that I was raised with. She wanted me off the frontlines, and yet, she has done quite the opposite. She's placed me on the frontlines of just a different war. One that has not so physical wounds but there are weapons that I wait to see if I am just as equipped to deal with. It will be a matter of time I think, before someone will rise to challenge the Duchess in her choice of those she appointed to Nilanza, Bravura and Inverno. It will be a matter of time before they question her actions.
I have a few months maybe.
A few months before the title hunters come and I must choose someone that can stand up to the other one. Someone who won't bleed to badly under her claws. It'll take them that long to realize it exists I think. Though, I would argue what would stop me from appointing Orland my heir. Who doesn't want a scowly pimply faced teenager as their heir.

Seems Redrain men are rather adept at finding wonderful women to marry. I look forward to getting to know each of them more so than I already do. I wish them all the happiness in the world, and may the Gods and the Spirits alike, bless their unions.

This is a private thought but I thought it pertinent to share publicly. I am well aware of your reputation with the Crown and some of the Compact even still. You are seen as brash, selfish and even dangerous to some. And perhaps there was a time where that was true. But in the year and then some I have waited by your side, I have seen your true nature. You are passionately loyal to whatever you devote yourself to. I have seen you give selflessly over and over this past year. To the Shamans to the Faith, to my family and their causes and to yours. You have devoted your existence to making your wrongs right again and I could not be prouder of the redemption you've achieved through this.
Anyone who is humble enough to accept their punishments willingly, and take the opportunity to learn and grow from their mistakes, is a strong person in my eyes. None of us is perfect. It is how we step forward that makes us who we are.
I know you care very little about what others see you as, but I hope some day they will let your past transgressions go and see you for the man you are now.

It's been some time since I've written a journal scholar. Forgive me.
A lot has happened since my last journal, a great deal. Family has come to the city, family has left the city. But most importantly, things that I never would have considered..
Okay, let me specify, I don't really see myself as the type to be desired for marriage. There have been a few who have proposed such notion and even someone I pursued personally for a marriage. Those who sought me out.. I got the impression they weren't interested in me, only in the position I held and the position they would attain once that ring was placed on their finger. Not all, mind, but many.
The one I wanted, was unattainable, she was out of my reach. Do I still want her? Yes, without a doubt. Is it realistic or feasible? No.. it isn't. It hurts my heart to admit as such, but I cannot have the one that I want.
That being said, scholar, the one who.. through pure circumstance and chance, may be the right one for me. She is smart. She is clever. She is beautiful. And most important of all? She's unafraid of the responsibilities therein of the position of Marquessa. I'm excited by the prospect. I barely know her, but I want, I crave to know more. But I am not afraid to admit, that I'm terrified. I'm scared by the notion of marrying and spending the rest of my life with someone I don't know as well as I should. That won't stop me, however, from doing my utmost from learning as much as I can from and about this woman. She is as much intriguing and unknown to me as can be.
Is it possible to be both excited and scared to death in the same breath? If it is, that is what I'm feeling. But I'm optimistic.
Anyway, stop looking over my shoulder, scholar, you're making me nervous.

There's something meditative about working with steel. Melting it down from its original form and into something that can be shaped, molded, and sharpened. There's something beautiful about the points of a pair of hairpins. I think I shall work on more.

I can't express enough how delighted I am that I met Eirlys. I hope she realizes she just made a new friend, that might drive her mad, but hopefully, it is the good mad! She is going to introduce me to Kieran too, her War Elk, and teach me how to ride one. And even help me get one if I decide I would like one!

Relationship Note on Gaston
Gaston would fit in well in Oakhaven. He should be less worried about being part of the pack, too. Though perhaps it would be best if he formed his own pack. Titus is a very good start to that. I can see that he is well cared for and loved. That says a lot.
