I arrived in Arx yesterday evening, and was so happy to have gotten to see my cousins, Kael, Lorien, and Reigna! Having them here will make it less lonely and strange. I'm going to miss home, the forests, all the hounds, the people. My friends. But helping my family is important, and I want to help us grow and show the other houses just how skilled we are when it comes to training hounds, and how good of huntsmen we are too.

Part of me wishes I had brought one of my hounds with me, but it was better to leave them. I had already broken up our pack enough, there was no need to do so further. But! Gaston has kindly agreed to let me help in training his wolfhound, Titus. I am very happy for that. And Eirlys has offered to teach me to ride a WAR ELK! I am so excited about that. I am very glad I met both of them. Not only do I have my family, but I have already made some friends here.

News of another Greenmarch death has filtered back from home. My uncle Muiryn died of a heart attack at dinner a week ago. But, lest anyone suspect that death took him sleeping, it did not.

My uncle was a giant of a man, and he had a... talent for being found by bears. I can remember him killing one with is bare (if you'll pardon the pun) hands when I was a boy, and wearing the damned head like a hat, until my mother made him take it off and put it away. I don't remember why she did, just that she did.

This time, my uncle was found by some bears. The report is unclear, but the lowest number is two, and the largest is five. So, I've decided it will be three, in all our official documents. He was having lunch by a lake, and they wanted his meal. He disagreed, and if you ever met my uncle, you know his disagreements were usually vigourous. No less this time. Uncle killed them all and then went home. At dinner, he complained of pain, and then fell over. There really was nothing to be done for him.

My uncle was a rock for us. He was the very definition of loyalty. For Muiryn, being family meant you never had to even question whether he would be there for you. It didn't even matter if you were wrong and he knew it - he'd tell you just how stupid you were, and then fight alongside you no matter what or who you faced. He was gruff and hated pants. He loved fiercely. Hiding his whiskey put your health at risk. He gave me exactly two hugs in my life - the days each of my parents died - and I knew he felt the depths of my own sorrow in the ferocity of that embrace.

So: if you knew my uncle, drink. Drink all day, drink all night. Whiskey, or ale if you have no whiskey. And if you see someone drinking wine or anything fruity, knock it from their hand and put a glass of Nightgold in it. It's what Muiryn would have done.

To say I am delighted and happy is a massive understatement. Now all of Arx and Arvum will know how lucky I am. As deep as the ocean and a strong as the tide.

I like Prince Ainsley I have decided. He is brave, dutiful and has a big heart.
He also knows how to treat his woman well and has a soft spot for my
mousiest little friend. <3 <3 <3 May you always be well Prince Ainsley.

Well, it seems I stuffed my foot into my mouth last night, speaking with Eirlys. I feel awful about it still, even if she swears it's alright. I'll have to find some way to make recompense.

I met with Count Keaton and various members of his family as well. Most aren't nearly as taciturn as the Count himself, it turns out. One even offered to help assist me with some investigations I'm doing, looking into the corrupted animals of the Gray Forest. She seems to be something of a lover of hounds, but from the Keaton family, that's no great surprise, is it?

Captain Skapti Thrallson of the Leatherback, flagship of the Navegant fleet.

If my father were still alive to read that he'd die of laughter. He always figured I was bound to be hanged someday for piracy, and I tended to agree with him. I guess there's still a chance I might, but it looks slimmer than it once did, for sure.

Apparently being a respectable member of society, and not a bloodydamn reaver means paperwork. I think my entire life is paperwork now.

Somedays, I think Turo did me a solid in taking me in. Others, I think he just wanted to do less of the damn paperwork himself.

I don't feel as though I write as much as I should. I mean to, but I always find myself with too much to do, and then I forget to make the time for this. Maybe I should set aside a certain time every day simply to collect my thoughts, and put them down on paper. It may be a good way of making certain that I'm not forgetting the events of the day, the week, or even the month.

This week has been quite busy, but very productive. I've high hopes for several things that have been put into motion, and I hope to see the fruition of these things soon. Some will undoubtedly happen sooner than others, and some I fear remain secret until they do actually come to fruition.

However, one thing I am happy to finally see become public is the announcement of my cousin's wedding. I wish her all the happiness in her match.

Relationship Note on Edain

I've served by your side these last few years, and I don't think that you have anything to apologize for. It's fine with hindsight to say that you would have made a different decision, but rarely do we get the complete view. I find that your decisions are steeped in what is good for House Valardin so I can not censor that.

I don't care if you feel you've made mistakes, I still celebrate the man you've become since the Tragedy at Sanctum. While I prepare for my marriage into Redrain, I can say that I do not have regrets in serving as your Sword. There are times that the mantle was heavy on my shoulders, but I wore Oathbinder with great pride knowing that I served a High Lord that I am proud of.

Relationship Note on Edain

When Fia and I first came to Arx neither of us was sure what to expect.

Meeting you, Edain, let me know that there is so much good in this city. You and Alis have done so much for us. You give so much of yourself to make sure that those who serve you have all that they need. I don't think I have as fancy of words that Fia has. He is right though, none of us are free of mistakes.

Just remember, you rode into battle with us instead of sitting behind so that you'd be safe. You cared about your people enough to lead us into battle. That to me is a sign of a true leader. You never -wanted- this and that helps you see things others might not I think. It is a strength for you because you do your best and it's all that can be asked of you.

However, I would like to point out one thing! I never got close to you -just- for Sir Roland the Owl. I can't believe you forgot Sir Arugula in that statement. I feel he will be very put out if he hears that you ignored his presence!

A giant of a man died and my heart has cracked so badly.

Uncle Muiryn,
You were always there for us. You helped us find our way when we were lost as children (Fia and I). You were always this huge bear of a man who made the world feel a little safer, a little brighter, a little louder and a lot more filled with love. You always called us your bebes. I wanted to have you at my wedding if I ever got married. I wanted you to be there to watch me take that next step into adulthood.

You were there for me when I needed answers about so many things. You were there for me after the battle at Pridehall. You were there for some of the worst I have seen. You like Fia were a pillar of strength for me.

I am always going to have memories of you being loud, maybe pantless as you argued with Neve.

You were a giant of a man, you are someone I will always love.

I'll miss you deeply Uncle Ryn.
