It's been a busy time as of late, preparing for the next search, the next battle. So often, I find myself thinking ahead, preparing.... sometimes, I wish I could enjoy the now more often.
Such is the thing about duty though. Time for yourself is often a luxury. Thankfully, I have found things I can do in the small moments I have, like writing missives that often delve into my deepest thoughts, worries, emotions, joys. And, of course, art. I drew a replica of a recent sketch I did and put it here in the archives. I have seen others do it, I figured, why not... just this once.
It's been an interesting time too... many people who have been on travels or expeditions. It is good to know they are near again. That alone eases my mind more than they may ever know.

{It is a simple sketch that adorns this page, done with nothing more than charcoal. A lot of time and care likely was put into the drawing, which consists mostly of tiny dots placed together in a way to create the proper shading, with some smudging done in more dense spots. The darkest areas are shaded in fully, like the large, round, black eyes that are framed with long lash-like feathers, the beak that seems to offer a smile, and the nostrils. Lines are added in to give definition and the appearance of fluffy feathers. The crown of the head features a whimsical little tuft of down and there is a curious tilt of the head that gives a playful sense to what is a sketch of a young ostrich from the neck up.

Words cannot truly expression both the amazement and the gratitude felt for the generosity shown at the Freedom artshow auction.

Dame Thena's artshow for the Knights of Solace went superbly! I was so glad to see members of Solace present as well during the evening and that so many from the city came to view the artwork.
And a majority of thanks must go to the artists, each and everyone of them made the show possible more than any other. Each piece was captivating in their own right and I am so proud of the artists of Arx for their skill and dedication to the recent shows.
Though I do think Master Magpie's chair stole the show. It is an incredibly impressive chair.
The exhibition will be up for another month before the works are all auctioned off. I do hope there is as great a turn out as there had been for the show itself.

We had a good chat. Maybe we can learn more about one another in the coming months. I look forward to it. I think for the longest time, we ran in different circles and maybe on purpose. I'm not sure, the whole thing with that commoner so many months ago interfered with getting to know him. Fresh starts are great.

I noticed this morning that I'm not able to see my toes. I can still feel them when I wiggle my toes by there is nothing when I look down. All I see is my belly that is swollen with child.

So many beautiful things were displayed in honor of Gild and the Knights of the Solace. Even a chair. I confess to not fully appreciating it until I sat in it, but now quite understand why a knight would want one on the road. Of course, there were also works honoring valor and sacrifice and protection of the weak from war and strife, not just chairs. The strength of Gild's charity and structure of civilization was a virtue I confess I did not fully appreciate until coming to this city, where needs are so great and the protection those structure provide so vital. All honors to Dame Thena and Whisper Saedrus for putting together this beautiful exhibit.

In one of my texts, I have stumbled across an intriguing alchemical process -- of producing an oil extraction from such minerals such as quartz -- that has left me wondering over the practical purposes of such a thing. Perhaps in less traditional perfume applications. I'll need to experiment.

When Crownbreaker occured, the Faith were killed. And in that moment of weakness, a false Dominus elected because we could not resist the pressure. That is a past the Templars will never see repeated, never again allow us to fall to outside pressure. That said, it does not mean we should reject ideas just because they come outside, or not to listen to voices from outside the faith. We should consider all those things. But, we must find solutions that first work for the Faith and the Faithful. And show those temporal powers what friendship with us can mean.

Inadvertently, children, I have found a way to bring together three great northern houses; house Halfshav, House Sanna, and House Nightgold through trade and development. Never had I thought that working as minister would have afforded me such an opportunity. That is what Arx is. You may at first feel betrayed that you are being sent far away from home but trust me, like in the woods and the mountains, Arx is where houses are created and you should always strive for more than you deserve. Come to Arx, find your cousins, have them introduce you to their cousins, and so on. Always write home, especially to your grandmother. Take a class or two. You will never have another opportunity like this one to meet people of other backgrounds with skills naturally unavailable to you.

Things I've learned the last few days:
1. I tend to procrastinate making Journal entries.
2. King Alaric has a greater capacity for alcohol than I. At least I had the common sense to stop before saying or doing something would regret later. Staggering would have been so very ungraceful.
3. Romantic rose gardens sometimes inspire sad songs instead.
4. Merry tunes please the spirits, or so I have been told.
5. Marquessa Cambria's cheeses pair very well with Granato wines.
