Duke Vercyn Halfshav
The line between the Abandoned and the great houses is a far smaller line than most believe. I've spent my life fighting the Shav'arvani and only a fool would underestimate them.
Description: Vercyn dresses and conducts himself in a manner that attempts to make even the most elitist of southern nobles forget that he is from the 'uncultured and barbaric north', and worse, that his family name is Halfshav for good reason. Strikingly handsome, with his neatly trimmed black beard, carefully coiffed raven-black hair flecked with dignified silver, and always elegant appearance he looks every inch the noble lord. He possesses a toned and athletic build despite his advancing age, moving with suppressed energy that betrays a hint of impatience in nearly everything he does. And yet, despite the cultured and refined a veneer as any in the south might hope for, there is something in his bearing that projects unease. Like a wild wolf dressed to look like a show dog, there's something in his movements and how he comports himself that suggests a barely restrained and worrying ferocity.
Personality: While personable and effortlessly charming with a disarming style cultivated to put others at ease, few could ever forget that Duke Vercyn Halfshav is known as 'the hungry wolf' for his ambition. There is something undeniably primal about the man, that the cultured and friendly persona is no more than a thin veneer over a carefully restrained hunger and fury threatening to break free.
Background: Vercyn has helped lead the forces of the North for House Redrain ever since he became a duke over two decades ago. An older, extremely respected war leader that's helped lead bloody campaigns to eradicate the worst of the shav tribes from the lands under Redrain control. In recent decades, the great respect for Prince Sherrod's forces under the command of his strong right hand Duke Vercyn has made even the most warlike shav tribes more inclined to talk and negotiate or at least avoid the lands under Redrain control. The ambitious, so-called 'hungry wolf' duke has thus turned his eyes towards Arx, helping House Redrain and the North grow their influence in the southern courts.
