As I walk through the menagerie, I reflect on the year past. I reflect on what was, what has been, and what will never be again, and things that we must make happen again. I'm unsure where my path leads me now, though I must be at my best and ready to give everything to do better than I have. I must let go.

The Commoners Bulletin is a condensed version of the news, happenings, and proclamations given out in the past fortnight! If you have news to include in the bulletin, or you believe I've missed something, please send word! (OOC: Using mail is good!)

NEWS:
*Some Prodigals arrived from the Saffron Chain looking for their "sister". Fear not, as a posse of nobles killed the prodigals! Arx belongs to Arxians!
*Princess Alarissa put out a call requesting for all men and women of the Compact to register ownership of "Cobalt weapons". Is that some new kind of weapon? Something special, like that fancy ship that sailed into port, bound for Prince Laric? Carrying that strange weapon aboard it? That was carted out without a word, and never returned (though a lot of injured Inquisitors did return)?
*Lady Tessa Moore put out a request for people who have met a unicorn. Maybe Lady Tessa should talk to Princess Alarissas? Unicorns probably have magic weapons.
*Princess Caelis is with child! That means Prince Edain, High Lord of Valardin, has an heir on the way! To celebrate, the noble pair donated silver to poor children, and the charities and groups that support poor children. Also, they funded Arx's drinking for a night.
*After a mess of new recruits in the Iron Guard proved themselves less than honorable - extorting people, taking bribes, starting protection rackets - the leaders of the Guard cracked down. These new (mostly freed Thrall) have been dismissed from the guard. I wonder where they'll find work now.
*The Inquisition has began to pay out silver to those most hurt by the fire in Merchant West.
*Prince Venteri of the Marin'alfar has left Arx! By way of… the ocean? Is that the name of his boat?
*Princess Alarissa gave birth of High Lord Victus' daughter. Word is two very skilled (and beautiful) Disciples of Death were on hand to deliver the babe, and bless her into this world.
*Princess Reese Grayson, commander of the Grayson forces, held an award ceremony for those that fought in the recent campaign in the Gray Forest. While I am quite unclear what we were fighting, it's safe to assume there's plenty in the dark woods that mean us ill.
PROCLAMATIONS:
*Princess Sasha Valardin and Marquis Cirroch Sanna have begun courting. Is that maybe why Cirroch had those new fancy gardens built? Or were the gardens because three (3!) Sanna noblewomen arrived? I guess one of them is actually a Redrain? Not going to try to figure that one out.
*Prince Edain has announced that his wife, Princess Caelis, is with child. I believe they've already settled on "Mae" if it's a girl.
*Master of Questions Laric has announced the fire in Merchant West was started by accident, and not on purpose, and not by a person. It would seem they can stop their search for a perpetrator! We can all stop worrying.
*Lord (?) Sivard Grimhall confessed to murder and was promptly executed by the Inquisition (which the Crown Court supported).
*High Lord Victus Thrax announced the birth of his and Princess Alarissa's daugther, Astrid Thrax, and have proclaimed her heir of Maelstrom. Gods bless Astrid Thrax.
*The lord formerly called Logan Halfshav was stripped of title and removed from his family. Looks like Duke Vercyn has forbade his family and vassals from offering the man any aid. Looks like someone messed up more than a little.
*Count Artorius Magnotta and Countess Melinda announced the birth of their child, named Lord Malcolm, who is declared heir of Caer Morien.
*Princess Alis Valardin challenged Lady Monique Greenmarch for "disrespect to Highlord Edain Valardin and the Valardin fealty". I've received confirmation that Lady Monique will be accepting the challenge.
*Lady Octavia has returned from Kennex lands and is back steering the Crown Court. She'll be keeping Lord Samael Bisland around as a senior magistrate.
*House Bisland has appointed Marquis Malesh as Minister of Economic Development and Trade and Lady Delilah Whitehawk the Beautiful as Minister of Justice and Internal Affairs.

Few scholars could ever hope to aspire to match Lord Percephon for pleasant company and conversation, not to mention his myriad creative talents and skills. Few, too, could claim to share as much trust with their High Lord to act as his Voice.

Sometimes you have a good day. Yesterday was not one of those days. Today wasn't much better.
I met someone yesterday whom told me that they did not want to hear my words. They did think I was worth the effort to even bother to hate. That I wasn't worth a kindness. That I was only afforded polite words. That I was not worth any of their time. This man then went on to talk about the good relationship that he has with my cousins. This man.. he has hurt me with his words, cutting into me like a knife. He seems to find solace in finding me of no reasonable value. He's hurt me. And if I were a more confident person it wouldn't have bothered me. But it did. It's made me realize that I need to find value in myself. So I have decided to double my efforts to better myself and do what I can for those around me. I have value - but sometimes I just have to beleive in the words.
I've found comfort in the arms of a lovely man.

Other honorable mentions are Princess Alarissa Thrax, she is a lovely, proper woman. She has taught me, and is still teaching me manners, how to behave myself, and many things that a girl of the wood didn't learn when she should have. No longer an abandoned, I suppose I'm prodigal now. Princess Alarissa is on one of the more adventuresome adventures - the maiden voyage of motherhood. I wish her well, and many fond hopes for her and Prince Victus little one.
Marquis Greenmarch - another one that deserves respect. Ever-patient I've tested his patience, and I hope I dont try it as much as I did when I first arrived. I enjoy my time with my cousin, and hope talks can move to things of less seriousness but equally important - like the talk of most effective way to cook bacon.
Prince Aurelian Valardin - Had a disagreement, but we settled it quickly. Had a nice conversation, and I've invited him to dinner. Now..what does a Prince eat? I suppose I should expand my menu of Bacon to include other less bacony-things. Hmmn. I look forward to planning something fun to do with him. But not trivia. I think he would be really good at trivia.
Sometimes I'm not happy with myself, with how I feel, but I am finally satisfied with how I act. I am in control of my actions, and I make the choices in my life, I run them, they do not run me. It's been a hard week. Painful. But at this point I'm feeling good. I'm feeling optimistic. And I'm looking forward to tomorrow. I feel like building something. A relationship, a project, I want to do something constructive and positive!

I have been in Arx much longer now than I expected to be when I came. Now, as much as I long for my shack in the mountains... I know I will remain here for some time yet. My work is nowhere near done, as I've mentioned, my to-do list is growing.
I realize tonight that I have reflected on my life a lot lately... how I was when I first arrived, how I am now. How I have changed in so many ways... and yet, I think the core of me stays the same. I have been reminded of moments in time that seemed so small at the time, but now... I realize how large an impact they made on me. The tiniest things can bring so much joy, and the important ones do not cost a single silver.
I could speak of the not-so-pleasant memories that helped shape me as well, and perhaps I will, some time. But not tonight... Tonight is about treasuring the small moments that should never be forgotten, and how they make me smile.

If I had known that the last time that we parted would be the last, I would have made it last longer. I would have asked so many more questions. There are so many people I want to sit with, converse with, share knowledge with, just enjoy the company of... and smile with... and so little time. It is fortunate that messengers deliver missives so readily, it makes keeping close with people so much easier at times. When you are unable to sit face to face and smile at one another, the written word at least keeps the thought of them a little closer.

There are more serious things to write about to Vellichor, but I will also write about my dress.
Princess Reese prepared gifts for all of us involved in the Gray Forest campaign, and mine was a silk dress made by the tailor Caprice. It's not the sort of thing I normally wear (I think Calaudrin Estardes will laugh at me because I yelled a lot at him about silk once), but, as I look at it, it suits me very well. The azure blues shift and flow like the waters of the rivers of my home, and the fit is perfect. I don't think I could fight in it. Unlike Lady Joslyn, I trip when I try to hit things in skirts. But it will be beautiful for non-hitting occasions. This was a kind gift and nothing I expected, and I shall treasure it as a reminder of both the hard-fought campaign and the beauties at the end of it.

I received a beautiful painting from Princess Reese - apparently painted by Princess Denica Thrax. A thank you for my efforts in the Gray Forest campaign. I was pleased to partake and offer up a gift of my own to a woman very much deserving. The Rose of Stonewood knows her name.
I've hung Princess Denica's painting in my store, because - well. It is a grand piece of art, and even if it feels a bit odd to have a stylised reminder of that time I got knocked into a tree, it''s still... Well. She deserves to have people see her masterful strokes.

Summer's well and ended. Seasons turn, and the world moves.
Since the spring, some ten thousand Prodigals in from the Grey Forests are sworn to Riven, and more from the Mourning Isles, through the worthy work of my wife and Countess. My oldest is close to her twelfth winter; a few years until she's a woman grown. Things aren't how they were. Which is always the way.
For myself, this summer just ended saw me speared, cut, battered, mauled by a bear and set on fire. And sad fact is that's not so much a change.

Being bedridden is no fun. Especially with the amount of things I've got to do still. But even I can't argue when I'm told I have a fever and my head feels heavy. I probably needed the rest.

I've finally gone to the step I've threatened so long, and hired a steward to help me keep track of the paperwork involved with the Gold Order. Mistress Miriam is kind and gentle, and polite, and so far has been able to help me with the work I've set before me. I'm very grateful to her.

As one still acclimating to the current political situation in Arx, I would praise Marquessa Freja for calling the Redrain fealty together to meet and share current projects. These are dangerous times in which we live, and there's much hard work to do, but I'm confident willing hands and sensible heads will come together to do it.
