Someone asked me where the idea for the Paper Fleet came from.

I thought back to when I was a boy, the first time I really felt like water was something special. There was a stream we would play at from time to time. It was my sister who showed me how to fold a paper boat. She put it into the water, and I followed it down the stream with her. It went well further than we were supposed to go. We were scared of how far we'd gone, but at the same time scared the boat might sink and thrilled to see how far it would go. In the end it washed up on some pebbles in a shallow spot, making the voyage safely.

We immediately put the boat back in the water. Of course we would want it to keep going. Sadly it fell apart when we tried. One voyage was all the little paper ship had in it. Thinking back on it now that seems like voyage enough to carry a prayer.

One or two new friends. One definitely not friend, though (and it's not you in that column, I should add).

Gods, I'm bored. Because being idle is blah-blah something wise and deep and proverby should be added here later (later edit: “An idle mind is Tehom's playground.") Because of that, I'm going to start a new hobby while I attempt to curb my drinking habit. By going around all the taverns and inns in the city in order to start rating them based on my very simple ranking system --

Hot or not.

Queensrest Inn: Hot. Decent wine. Only drank a bottle. Supposedly they serve tea and coffee. Dirty leaf water /and/ sludgy bean water. Whiskey, too. Though, I didn't get a chance to try any of that. Next time, maybe. Go there if you want to meet up with old friends. Or, if you're in the market to make new friends.

I'll wait until Iliana's out of town.

To the rest of you, who I've inspired or otherwise, I must offer this defense: When your wayward younger sibling finally makes themself useful by organizing a major task, just say, "Thank you, Tomwell!"

Not that I'd do it.

This may be an incorrect observation of course. But, my thought is that if your lovely wife found frogs in the bed... it's whoever put them there who would likely wind up crying.

I'm afraid it wouldn't be a good idea to put any frogs in my bed. Not only because it would make me very aggravated, but because I share it with someone else. Who I can guarantee would be very, very, sad.

But what's this about Norwood chasing frogs?

A portion of a speech that I am writing that will hopefully be used to inspire our banners:

"Look at us, gathered today -- so many great Houses, so many families. He have family that is answering the call to rise up and lift their banners as one. We have loyal bannermen that will be prepared to travel far, and we have the ones that cannot come but who are here in spirit. We may all on be different journeys, but today we gather as one -- one whole that is not all the same but one that includes the disparities and supports each other in times of peace and especially now in times of war. We are present to make an impact on our future, and these names -- these banners raised in unison -- are a physical artifact that embodies our passion and beliefs as Oathlanders. They give us courage when we prepare to stand against our shared enemy in the world, and we will keep reminding our enemy where we came from, what we stand for, and where we are heading toward."

I would advise against such a frog tactic. I do not believe Iliana would appreciate that very much.
