I'm envious of anyone who has twins. Heir and spare in one go of it. Must be nice.

Lady Monique and Lord Corban Telmar are a delight, and I am delighted to have been a part of their wedding reception. I thought the Gala was beautiful as well as amazingly well-attended, and I can't wait to host a low-key, quiet dinner and auction for the beautiful dioramas!

And I definitely look forward to seeing the results of the prize for the Wits and Wagers game!

I'm just itching for more dance contests now, too. . .

Relationship Note on Edain

I like listening to you read to our child. I think that is the time it's the most active. Perhaps our little heir knows your voice already. That's a warming thought to me. I know dangerous days are ahead of us, but the time we get to spend together, listening to you read or just having a quiet evening in each other's company is something to cherish.

I think after I finish my current glut of commissions, I might take a brief break. It's been a great deal of crafting, after all, and I need to get out of my shop and /do/ more things. I feel like the only people I see are my family, and my friend Lady Joslyn who comes by to visit me. I need to get out more into the taverns, to events, just... things that aren't my shop.

I'm not very /good/ at socializing, though.

Soon the Arvum Refugee Relief Group will begin preparations for those who will undoubtedly be displaced, putting our efforts into high gear to both aid and provide for those in need while they seek to rebuild their lives.

So it is with a great deal of thanks that I acknowledge the following:

Caspian Wild of the Champion's Guild, he controlled the flow of the recent charitable match for a great deal of the contest of skill. Many of the other Knights were at his mercy. Many thought he would take the win, but as can happen in Donkey Knights: when one is doing well, they suddenly become the first of enemies.

Count Duarte Amadeo competed with integrity and spirit. He strived to stay in the metaphorical race and saw it all through. Additionally, he comported himself quite well even when he was in the dirt and packed earth. Ultimately the Count of House Amadeo found companionship in Donkey Knights, as he's recently reached an agreement with myself to procure the donkey which served as his most loyal of noble steeds, for his private ownership. Happy endings truly do exist!

Lady Enyo Malvici was in my top three to win it, obviously. A cousin and interested in participating in a match of Donkey Knights? Undoubtedly she was moved up on the list of favorite cousins. She didn't win, but she definitely put all of herself into the competition. Next year is her year though, I think. Practice, practice, practice!

Lord Theron Mazetti was harassed a great deal throughout the match by some fellow competitor with a grudge shouting "MAZETTI!!!", but was ultimately able to break away from the attentions of his harasser. Unfortunately, that withdrawal spelled certain doom for the other competitors. While Lord Theron losing the attention of his aggressor was a boon for himself, it ultimately proved the downfall of all.

Lord Wash Kennex. That man is a special, special snowflake who might be a little crazy. Or just very creative. Or both. Regardless of his faculties, he is a man who increases the hilarity of any Donkey Knights competition that he attends. He's always welcome and indeed favored as a competitor and entertainer, so we're lucky to have his involvement each year!

An honorable mention goes to Prince Galen Thrax for putting on a show and personality that rivals that of Lord Wash's own regular appearances during the competitions. He must have formal training as an entertainer, because he had the crowd wrapped around his finger as much as the knights battling the dragon did!

And finally, Mistress Alarie Harall of Harall Creations. Ultimately the champion of the recent Donkey Knights championship. It was through trickery and subversive aggression that she ultimately won out over the other competitors. Dare I say it, she may have even been a much more well-rounded competitor than our last Donkey Knights Champion. The last champion was a one-trick pony, this commentator believes. I imagine if I goad the last champion enough with passive aggressive slights in relation to their ability to play the game, they'll come out of retirement in order to defend their honor.

Don't ask me why she didn't compete, Scholar. Maybe she's pregnant.

Oh, gods.

Ahem. Each of these competitors has my heartfelt thanks in providing not only entertainment, but hope for those involved. The horizon grows darker with each passing day, but it's the little moments that bring us joy that make it all worth fighting for. Those who contributed to the future charitable efforts of the Arvum Refugee Relief Group? I thank you as well. Those who weren't able to attend but are interested in giving freely to those who will be displaced by the upcoming war fronts? I'm little more than a letter away.

The next showing of Donkey Knights though won't be the family friend variety. Too much of a pleasant, idyllic thing can become dull. A private party will definitely be in the making, here in a few weeks should the enemies we face allow us that respite.

Oh hi, Cambria. I'm not doing anything at all, no. Just having a nice conversation with my Scholar friend here. No, no, don't read that. Please stop reading that?

You could have just asked me to duel you. I'm standing right here in front of you, you didn't have to have the other Scholar scribble down your words, then hand them to me. I literally heard you. Fine, fine. Challenge accepted, dear, dear Marquessa. I hope you don't chicken out and refuse to show up when the time comes.

I suppose being unable to watch your wife utterly decimate the competition is boring. That is called being a considerate host, not, as you name it, fear.

I challenge you, here and now, Marquis Mazetti: you and me, a donkey duel.

Unless you are too afraid, that is.

I know I'm not.

Relationship Note on Alarie

Alarie won the Donkey Knights Championship of 1008 AR. As a result she will have a full year to bask in the radiant glow of being the champion this year and a trophy that will hopefully provide her with memories relating to her first big win.

Donkey Knights is a game best played with an abundance of strategy, a smidgen of deception, a helping of skill, a stroke of luck, and a dash of daring. All qualities which Mistress Alarie put on full display for her hosts, fellow competitors, and the spectators who graced us with their presence.

A toast to the champion and may Alarie be prepared to defend her title next year. Or refuse to compete and have it pass on, unopposed, to a new champion next year. Like some champions in recent history. Because they're boring. And afraid.

It's amazing how things can change, sometimes. It goes to show, even if things start off wrong, don't write them off. Try again. Make an effort. If you put good things in, sometimes you'll get good things back, no matter how rocky they started.

Nothing will change if you don't try, so you might as well try.

I liked the wine, at least. Perhaps a bit too much, but under the circumstances, I am sure that can be excused. I made it two drinks into your bottle and several into my own. It could be worse, though. It could be cupcake liquor (which still sits, untouched, in my boarding room).

My son and Lord of House Malvici. Your path has only just begun and it’s possibilities are endless. You have choice in life and a freedom to take up whatever responsibilities you will shoulder best. I hope that as you grow you explore your possibilities to the fullest. Take up a sword, sail at sea, ride off in to the mountains for a few weeks on end. And come back to us stronger, more self assured and wiser. Never stop learning. Never be satasfied with what you are handed, use your privileges to do more and give more back to the people who support you. Know that there will always be a path you can take to go forward. Know that this family will do what it can to guard and guide you but that one day the need for you to guard and guide yourself will arise. It is my hope for you that on that day You will move with dignity and compassion.

My blue-eyed son. your father and I love you very much.

My daughter and heir to the seat of power in Southport. You are very small now, but you will grow. I promise you now that I will do everything I can to keep the weight of the world off of your shoulders for as long as possible. There will be a day when you pick up the mantel, and before that day comes I hope you have already filled your life with passions. Passion for art, for the sword, for speaking, for writing. Whatever it may be I hope that you embrace it fully and use your strengths for the good of humanity. There will be tragedy in your life as well. It will hurt you and sting and leave lasting impressions. I hope that when you know sorrow, you will also see happiness. And you will know that it is all part of learning and growing.

My beautiful, green-eyed daughter. Your father and I love you very much.
