Damn it. Damn it to hell. I might actually /have/ to purchase a new dress now. But, thinking on it, I don't think I can get away with wearing the murder, death kittens dress I love so adoringly to my sister Sabella's wedding and reception.

STOP SNICKERING!

I'm going hunting.

Relationship Note on Felicia

I have been a member of the Hundred for less than a month now. But even as the newest member of the Silver Swords, I was deeply touched by the memorial statute to the fallen King's Own that Dame Felicia unveiled last night. It is serves as a stark reminder of all those who have sacrificed in service to the King and Compact. It is also a reminder that we sworn knights to the Crown are but a link in a long chain of history that began long before us and will continue long after we are gone.

In addition, I now have a handsome first place trophy commemorating my success in the jousting competition held after the unveiling. The King almost bested me, but I prevailed by the narrowest of margins. It is perhaps unsporting to best His Royal Highness, but the King applauded my success nonetheless.

Relationship Note on Gabriel

I am perhaps a bit late responding to this but I consider a man, who is quite literally a living legend, and who is to leadership and tactics what my uncle Lord Commander Dayne was to swordsmanship, asking 50,000 silver for his personal instruction and attention to not be unfair or unwarranted in the least.

Duke Gabriel Bisland has earned a quite retirement to raise and rear his family several times over and has given it up not once, but twice to hold the Compact together and be a leader we can rally behind. His time is limited and so rarely his own and he wished to use what he knows best to help his own Duchy rebuild its forces.

50,000 silver is no small amount of money, but it is a fair price for personal instruction from such an exemplar. If you are someone that Duke Gabriel deems worthy of his instruction but cannot afford it I encourage you to come to me. I cannot promise I will always be in a position to pay such a fee but I would be happy to see what I can do to help.

You? Will be fine. Those sprogs that you're hauling around? Will be fine. Stop making me feel all responsible and protective-like, Baroness-Regent.

Relationship Note on Violet

Thank you, Commandant Violent. That means a lot to me.

By the way, do you have any of that gift-whiskey going spare? I think I'm going to need it in the future.

(I'm actually very happy. Don't let my face fool you next time we see each other. That's just my face.)

I'm proud of my family. Unbroken and unconquered.

Cullen shone so brightly tonight as he received Niamh's sword. I think she would have been pleased. He is a fierce warrior, as she was, and he will honor Greenmarch. I know it.

Simone was the epitome of a perfect co-host. She filled the shoes I did not think could be filled, and she did so with poise and charm and grace.

Marius. Well, he was Marius. I love him dearly.

I wish to record these words, so that I may look back on them and remember:

Thank you.

I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the friends who attended, who shared with us this ceremony, and the games after; they shared their creativity, their passion, and their joy; they shared their company and their lives and I am indebted to them for giving me purpose, for catching me when I fall, and for simply being there.

(Yes, Prince Tyrval came. No, there was no blood magic and no one died. See, Simone? I told you it would be fine.)

People often ask about 'what are Abandoned like', and then I talk about how that question can't be answered, because Abandoned are all different, every tribe is different, and the only possible answer is to point out how the question itself is wrong. But let me tell you about one tribe, one village I met that was very different from the tribe I grew up in. They had fields full of crops, with farmers to work them. They had a blacksmith that made tools just like yours, but little to no weapons, because the village didn't seem to have any warriors. Their village sat along a small river, and their children played in the shallows while their parents kept a watchful eye, talking and laughing with each other. They didn't have a liege lord, of course, but to look at them, to watch them, they were indistinguishable from a Compact village in every single way.

And they're probably all going to die.

Relationship Note on Calaudrin

I don't really know that much about being married, even though I am now. I haven't been for very long, and I'm a commoner besides, so no treaties or alliances are in the balance over it. I will say, though, that marriage wasn't something I entered into lightly. I was lovers with this man for near two years and I expect, if being in love was all we'd wanted, we'd have kept on like that. We wanted vows before the gods, though, and to honor our commitments to each other in a way that'd make Limerance proud. We wanted to be eachother's family, eachother's tribe, through the good times and the terrible ones. And I'll say, I wed with no intention of ever breaking that oath, even if it is a simpler matter for a commoner. If Calaudrin Estardes and also Greenblood ever tires of me, that'll just be too bad, because we've decided to stick with each other. Even on the hard days, I'd have it no other way.

One thing I'll say about marriage. I thought I knew this man as well as I could know anyone. And I loved him, which isn't a luxury some get when they join another. But every time I think I've figured him out entirely, he does something to surprise me. Like, when he's out on an expedition that comes upon an orphanned girl, scavenging for food. And he takes her in and sees to it that she has a good meal and a place to sleep. I pray we can find what might remain of her tribe and kin, but she's safe and warm now because of this man. And I love him even more than I did yesterday, in a way I never expected. So I'll keep this marriage thing and thank Limerance for all the large and small blessings it brings to my life.

Relationship Note on Lethe

Such a generous friend, volunteering to go to Saikland with me when time to have this child or children in a month or so. The recent news of Mistress Sameera's death during childbirth and that of her twins builds my apprehension as does the memory of how my twin and I had to be cut from our mother's belly. I'm glad you are skilled at reassuring me.

Have you heard the Legend of Niklas Kennex?

In one day he:

Won a barroom brawl*
Solved a murder**
Resolved a diplomatic crisis***
Tilted with the king****
Completed the King's Own stair climb challenge*****

Could he be the most incredible man in the Compact? HE MAY BE!

*Every word of this is a very generous use of that word, especially brawl and ESPECIALLY won
**Third place in the investigation challenge
***First place in the diplomacy challenge
****Third in the joust challenge, only three people competed, spent most of his time looking up at his horse from the ground
*****This is accurate, may have cried

Really, House Keaton does not have any special wait list for acquiring a 'monstrously' sized hound. The largest that we have are of the Aegis line of our Oakhaven bloodhounds. Not even a little extra silver will get you on the secret list, for this secret list does not exist.

Probably never written, but performed by Itzal Culler somewhere, at some point. One thing's for certain, the man was drunk. Very, very drunk.

I know of a tavern not far from here
Where you can get some mighty fine beer
The company's true and the lasses are pretty
It's the greatest damn place in the whole of the city
If you're looking for crewmates, you'll sure find 'em there
Cutthroats and lowlifes and worse I should dare
Ol' Mae don't care who comes to her inn
It's a den of debauchery violence and sin

So come take a drink and drown your sorrows
And all of our fears will be gone till tomorrow
We'll have no regrets and live for the day
In Mae's Murder of Crows

If you're looking to go on a glorious quest
There's a man there who knows of an old treasure chest
For some pieces of eithe an a tankard of ale
He'll show you the map and tell you it's tale
And then there's Mae, the lovely barmaiden
She may be old but her beauty ain't fading
Ol' Mae don't care who comes to her inn
It's a den of debauchery violence and sin

So come take a drink and drown your sorrows
And all of our fears will be gone till tomorrow
We'll have no regrets and live for the day
In Mae's Murder of Crows

I am not busy. I am not busy at all. I am the laziest ambitious person that I know. On the best and most ordinary days of my life I tend to paperwork for four or five hours, run the occasional errand, visit the closest inn to drink my way through a bottle or so of wine or brandy and then -- and then -- people watch the rest of the day long. This seems, to me, a very pleasant pace for a day.

Reading through some of these entries makes me wonder if my fellow nobles ever give themselves a break at all.

Relationship Note on Itzal

I want to make it as clear as I can here in the whites. My brother, Itzal Culler, has had very, very, very few romantic partners. It's my understanding he's had but two kisses in his entire life (admittedly, at least one of those must have been incredible, worth a million or three). My constant attempts to find him a date are not because he has an overabundance of "close friends", but quite the opposite. I just want my little brother to find a man or woman that makes him happy!

There's a song about you? I must know it. The one penned by Lord Niklas is being sung by one of my assistants and it's catchy as balls and I wouldn't mind having another for an apprentice to sing to mix things up.
