Relationship Note on Austen

Time of need? What do I not know? Do I want to know?

Yes, scholar. This is why that white streak of hair is getting bigger. Hush.

Things haven't changed so much as been completely upended.

I'm getting another dog. A meaner, angrier dog. Or a more protective, loyal one. I wonder if the Keatons would be willing to do business with me.

Of course, it goes without saying - and I sincerely mean no disrespect to the invitations that you have received - but the right company should not require a drink to be able to enjoy it.

I'm certain you already know this. But perhaps things have changed even more than I've come to find.

I highly recommend a Keaton Hound, if you need a dog companion, and not just because I'm in charge of breeding the ones at the Keaton Hall. No, because they are large, loyal to a /fault/, excellent guard dogs and hunters, and calm and solid as granite with the right training. All-around excellent animals.

A simple thought, on the subject of good dogs. I always wanted a dog - some hulking, foul smelling beast with fur and a penchant for jerky.

Dogs are always happy to see you, particularly when you come home after a long time away.

But the best things about dogs, of course, is that they do not have thumbs and therefore cannot throw things at you.

Relationship Note on Torian

It's nice to read so many checking up on me, that others will reach out no matter how much time and business has passed between us. It pleases me and reassures me.

That being said, I'm fine for now. Thank you, my friend.

Relationship Note on Venturo

"Should someone only read a snapshot in time of what we document, what wrong assumptions might they jump to?"

I'd suggest that our Whites read as exactly the picture we mean to portray, and that any assumptions others make aren't necessarily wrong but merely the product of impressions left. If you brew a beer with coffee in it, most will say it's too bitter for them, but three or four might like it. Who is right in that circumstance?

Nonsense, Guild Mistress. Drinking can fix many things. You just need the right drink to enjoy with the right company. I'll prove you wrong yet on this particular matter.

Relationship Note on Cambria

I knew a fellow once who would only read the very last couple of sentences of a missive. 'Venturo,' he would tell me, 'it's only at the end that people get to what they want from you.' Once, he skipped past a missive whose last lines were a plea for money from his sister, dismissing it as yet another attempt to grab what silver he'd been able to save over the years from what he led me to believe was a greedy member of his family. Later, he'd find out, it was an askance to help tend to their mother who had grown ill, and only when news of her death came to him did he understand the consequences of that choice. From that point forward? He read each and every word of the messages that came his way.

I wonder if our whites aren't the same way. Should someone only read a snapshot in time of what we document, what wrong assumptions might they jump to? Are we best off to keep such detailed notes that our whole life might be explained, for fear of being captured wrong for all of posterity? Or are we best off leaving that mystery, keeping to only the important parts and let the future read into it what they will.

A few things I learned the last day:

Gems bounce even more when they have friends.

[a bunch of crossed out lines]

Drinking fixes nothing. When sobriety kicks in, you still have the same shit to deal with after. If you're still drunk? Harder to handle the mess, it's easy to just fall over and leave it. I don't work that way.

Also never in a million lifetimes did I expect to read words, written by Victus Thrax himself, asking if I needed a hug. Everything is sideways now. What the fuck. But. Thanks, Lord Victus.

Kael makes the most delicious drinks in all of Arx! They are fruity and they taste of the color... mmm... they taste... pink? No. Purple! They taste of purple. It makes me happy. I have not had one in moooonths. Thanks be to the gods for wet nurses, am I not right other women who have recently birthed children? My word! I had two drinks of Kael's magical purple fruit drinks and I am feeling... well I am feeling a lot of things and so things have gotten loud for the first time in quite some time, so that is well and good I suppose, even if it shall make sleeping impossible, but then I closed my eyes and the room was spinning so perhaps sleep is not the best idea quite yet, though is surely sounds nice. In any case, the purple was delicious and I am thinking that Aeryn should get a present to perhaps ease him into brotherhood. He never had issue with Kata, though in truth, she was here before him, my sweet and darling little girl. But he's taken to saying 'NO!' every time I pick up Talis, poor thing. Though amusingly that is not unlike me when I see... you know, I think I need to put the quill down.

Yes.
