I clearly remember the first time we met. A large meeting of of the military minded in Arx; and our thoughts were exactly enough on the same wavelength that we often nodded along with each other's statements.
And I remember the delivery a really large turkey, that I made sure to drag ALL BY MYSELF to the kitchens, just so I could tell you that I did it myself. So there!
I remember that you called me Pipsqueak and I knew it was meant with affection rather than malice or mockery.
I remember that we looked forward to a day when we might be on the battlefield at the same time and could try some outrageously crazy tactics (before Fia and Edain could object, obviously!)
I remember you and Calypso being there for my wedding to Fiachra.
I remember the ridiculous red toque that you gave me as a wedding present so that if Fia and I went North for a holiday he wouldn't lose me in the snow.
I remember you doing stupid things, but you were never dishonest about it and you accepted your lumps when you got them.
I remember that you were like a big brother.
I swear I will never forget any of it. I will miss you as much as I miss the rest of my family that is gone from this life.

I take comfort in knowing that if a northern wolf should find it's way into our home, that a certain claw of Arx would likely find her demise. And my arms and ankles would be safe once more.

Everyone is discussing the added danger to the Champions of a first blood archery duel, but it also seems to me that this would be a real disaster in the making for the audience. Every missed shot is a potential first blood in the throat of some fool who just came to see a good fight in Gloria's name and sat in the wrong seat.

Oh, and on the subject of archery champions duels....first blood tends to be rather permanent if it goes in the eye. Or the nose. Or the throat. And it is amazing how well an arrow can punch right through metal. Though I suppose with a sword you can also hit those places, but it somehow seems safer. I guess because the more armour you are wearing, the worse you are going to shoot if it is metal. So.
Still, it should be entertaining - and /that/ is the important thing about duels. Solving the dispute, entertaining the people. It would be kind of dull if they just safely tickled each other.

Thank you to all for the messengers of congratulation - I hope equal numbers of condolences were sent to Lady Amari for being lumbered with me.
Marriage is a duty, it forms bonds of alliance between houses - in our case bonds between Keaton and Tyde, between Oathlands and Thrax. But. Sometimes duty can be pleasurable and gentle, and in Amari I have certainly a friend, but I hope in time more.
I am glad that we have this period of courtship, an old tradition that seems to not be in fashion at the moment. I'm glad that a marriage deal was reached. And I'm glad that Tyde has new friends.
