The Catharsis saw a surprising amount of participation. It also saw no sudden deaths, no breaking of furniture, nor spontaneous fires breaking out within the Ward.

On a completely unrelated note, the purified formula for the Foolsbane seems to have had immediate effect.

Full disclosure. I don't know what one is. I heard a squire call another squire that one day when they were having an argument, so I just thought it was an insult the kids are using these days.

I'm writing to thank the other Summer Splashfest hosts, His Majesty, King Alaric and my cousin, Lady Kalani, and, of course, the guests who made the whole affair fun and memorable.

Of note: Sir Jeffeth, champion of the log-rolling contest; Calandra Whisper, winner of the diving splash contest with her singing swan dive; Grandmaster Caspian, winner of the swim race.

Grandmaster Caspian, also, notably placed in each of the three events - indubitably Grandmaster of the Terrace Pools.

And additional and continued thanks to His Majesty for allowing us into the Palace for this gathering. A truly bright spot as we prepare for the coming conflict.

Thank you to everyone and see you next year!

I put the final touches on "Lady Amari's Assortment of Adventure Apparel and Accoutrements" raffle prize box and had it delivered it to Princess Sabella earlier. Some of the items took longer than I expected and I kept wanting to add more, but time ran out and I couldn't even fit some of them into the box already (I could possibly have jammed the camp stool in, but it might have mushed up the blackberry spice cake. There was no hope at all of fitting the spear in, unfortunately). I hope whoever wins it really likes the wilderness (and foxes)!

As fun as designing everything and putting it all together was with the help of various tailors, apothecaries, leatherworkers, bakers, brewers, woodworkers and smiths, it was a lot of work. I might have underestimated the amount of effort and time that would be required. The fine crafters and artists of Arx make it all look so easy!

I'm happy anyway that I've done something that will help the Lodge. Remember to purchase your tickets!

When is overwhelmed with duty, and cannot indulge in the usual pasttimes of stress relief one is accustomed to because of lack of time...it is amazing how much joy can be found in the pleasure of a small and perhaps silly gift to ones you love. Thankfully my gift giving ability has improved since the time of slipping a sleepy fat toad I caught myself into the chair of my favorite tutor, or bribing Cook to bake onions into one tart instead of apples (though now that I think on it, it was probably still delicious), or the silly wilted flower chain presented shyly to an admired cousin. May the gods bless those who aid us in bringing a smile to those most dear, and in lightening my heart this day.

I don't mean to play favorites with things that have been donated, but I just took a look at the shadowfox fur umbra cloak that Lady Amari donated and...

I'm glad the party is tonight because otherwise one might see me wearing all of these things out and about.

It's is SO LOVELY!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!

One could wear it while exploring the forests or perhaps hunting for fish fingers. Finger fish? I feel like I might be misreading how fishing works from a few white entries.

There's still time to buy raffle tickets! Send your messengers!

I think Champion Bliss has made some very important and salient points about this "Catharsis."

I feel I should perhaps clarify that if anyone would hesitate to speak thier mind about how they feel about me at the event and that I might challenge them later, let me offer this reassurance.

I believe people's opinions are a sacrosanct thing and I will never seek to challenge you for expressing your own, especially in a forum that is meant to be where you can express your thoughts freely. I do not believe there even needs to be a special event for you to do so. I think the pages of our White Journals should be such a place.

So in summation if you wish to write, or say, "I think Prince Edain Valardin is a self righteous pile of horseshit, sculpted into a stupid, stupid, assgoblin" then I support your right to hold such an opinion.

Dame Esoka cooks an excellent catfish, though you may already know this.

It came from where the river runs through the Lowers though, so best not to think too much about how tasty it was.

Lottie's Place had this great green cloak and a red coat - I bought them both. My old ratty cloak and coat just won't cut it any longer and I'm very happy to have found those - I'm no expert, but I can tell they're extremely well crafted and will last me for years. I've also bought some items off of Petal a few weeks back, so now I can't get away with wearing my armor everywhere any longer. Damn it.

Relationship Note on Tikva

Pay heed to Princess Tikva's advice for she speaks wisdom.

Especially her suggestion of catching bluegill then using them to catch larger fish to feed a larger party or military unit. Bluegill are remarkably dumb fish and will bite at most anything from some hard cheese to even an empty hook. It's almost as if they know that being bait for larger fish is thier calling and they are all to happy to jump onto your hook to help you!

Relationship Note on Tikva

If you don't have nice crusty bread, at least two kinds of cheese (one runny, one stinky) some honey, figs and dark grape vinegar in your backpack, then you aren't preparing for your survival situations very well. Honestly, if you leave the city without a veritable charcterie in your pack, you have no place adventuring in any way.

Catfish are actually pretty disgusting because they're bottomfeeders. Catfish _can_ be delicious if cooked properly but many soldiers and scouts think they're better at this than they are.

If you're going to be hunting fish in a survival situation, freshwater fishes, especially -- since if you're eating catfish I assume you're looking at freshwater fishes -- I'd aim for trout or walleye, you can find walleye pretty reliably in the Mother and other more northerly rivers, and trout are a good bet in lakes and ponds. If you catch bluegill or other small fish, you can use them as bait to catch bigger ones that you can then use to feed more of your men!

Make sure you cook it, though. There are a number of fishes you can safely eat raw if you're hunting in the sea, but freshwater fishes will kill you!

As a note if you're going to be near the same body of water for a few nights, consider learning -- or having one of your men learn -- to weave a fish trap. It's much less time consuming than trying to hand- or spearfish if you don't have very good timing.

Relationship Note on Bliss

The whole idea seems doomed to failure. You can say 'this gathering is about saying whatever you want without hurting feelings', but feelings will be hurt and people will get upset. Rules of a party don't change that. And rules of a party don't supersede the rules of society, so if someone comes out of this deciding they should challenge someone else, no party agreement will prevent it from happening.

As a dramatist I mostly object to the use of the word 'catharsis'.

Written By Bliss

Sept. 28, 2018, 12:22 p.m.(9/8/1009 AR)

I have so many questions about this "Catharsis" coming up.

1. Does anyone think this will actually help anything?
2. If I hear about something said during a catharsis that makes me want to issue a challenge to that person, what's to stop me? The rules don't apply to those of us not going, after all.
3. If you're too cowardly to say something without being willing to issue or be issued a challenge over it, is it even worth saying in the first place?
4. Is the eve of a major battle really the time to stir up resentment?
5. Isn't letting things out in a constructive way a large reason we keep our Black Reflections?
6. Who wants to go to an event that is just people whining? If I want that I can go literally anywhere in the city at literally any time.

What utterly pointless tripe.

Relationship Note on Harlex

To my recollection, some of the women in the Isles liked to spread mud over their faces and lie for long periods of time. Supposedly, it was to remove blemishes on their skin and prevent wrinkles.

I have little need for such things, nor do I know for certain whether it works. But wrinkles have been a rarity on the women I have seen during my stays in Maelstrom, so take it as you will.
