The shrine of The Sentinel. Justice.

It is an interesting shrine to spend time at, as I make my little pilgrimage to all the shrines in Arx. I know, I know, I'm very slow at this, but it is still under way. I am finding it very informative, so even if nothing else comes of it, there is that.

I'm learning.

Relationship Note on Volya

Never being satisfied sounds like a fantastic way to make others not want to be around you. Striving for better is good, but there must be acknowledgment of the improvements and gratitude for accomplishing what one does accomplish. While I wouldn't recommend complacency, there are surely things which cannot be improved upon. Points at which someone can and should say "enough is enough." The people we love deserve our effort, but they deserve our time and care, too. One shouldn't push endlessly for some limitless goal while missing out on quality moments with important people.

The trick is never being satisfied. You can always do better than what you're doing now, if not for you, than for someone else or something greater than yourself.

Just depends if you care enough to try.

I walked around for an hour searching for Josie's shop, key in hand. I had to stop and ponder if I had accidentally eaten or imbibed some drug and was hallucinating it, cause it was not there. But then when I asked people on the street, they were equally confused or just laughed and said things like, surely it is just round the corner, a house does not just disappear.

Anyway! I mean, it is probably that someone just rebuilt it heavily. Must be it. I suppose I should make this key into a necklace or something.

Relationship Note on Adalyn

In my capacity as both a Princess of House Valardin and as House Valardin's Minister of Population, I have had the opportunity to spend time in the domains that are vassals of the Oathlands' Great House. In those domains, I have seen many things, enjoyed many customs, and met many upstanding and honorable people. I hold some of them exceptionally close: for example, my proteges, Lady Appolonia Blanchard; Lady Veronica Keaton, my fellow Disciple of the Sentinel; and Marquessa Teagan Blackram, with whom I am close enough that I have earned an "unofficial" seat at House Blackram's table.

I do not have the capacity to take on another protege, but I am nonetheless honored to find myself seated at another House's table as a friend and ally. I admire House Clement's drive, in taking the once-abandoned swath of Duskshire and transforming it into a growing Barony. I admire Baron Norwood's steadfast and thoughtful leadership. I also admire his tenacity, for I have never seen a man go flying quite as far, or land quite as badly, from the saddle of a horse as Baron Norwood did when he lost a jousting match to my lover. It was a truly astonishing sight, to see a human body sail through the air like that... and then to get up, under his own power. I would not have been able. I would have laid there and wept until the Mercies rendered me unconscious for the good of their own ears. But I digress.

I admire much about House Clement, but perhaps what I admire most is its Voice, Lady Adalyn. I am not ashamed to admit in the Whites that I wish that I could be more like her. There is something inside of her, some spark to her soul, that is innate, unable to be taught, unable to be learned: it simply IS. She is bold, adventurous, unconquerable, and at the same time empathetic and kind. The Sword of Duskshire has the confidence in her sword-arm to cut through her own worries and second-thoughts and gallop ahead, toward glory, and I watch with admiration and, as much as I try to swallow it, a tiny bit of envy.

The deed has been done. It went off without a hitch and the response was better than I ever could have hoped for.

Anecdotally, I went sailing recently. I am still very much a novice at it, a fact brought swiftly home to me when a mistake on my part nearly sent me plunging to my death. Were it not for the timely and swift intervention of another, I would not be writing this now. And yet, this has been the best trip I've ever taken.

I will say no more, some things are best left private.

A harvester of souls had come,
upon his steed Despair.
All memories of hope he slew,
and soiled all things fair.

The grinding weight of time is his -
a weapon brutal, sure.
He drags down all who yearn to hope,
and rots away what’s pure.

His manacled and heavy hand
is stained with shattered souls.
His grip’s a fearsome massive weight,
that ever-downward pulls.

With shadow-flax from seeds of doubt,
he fashions raiment fell.
Consigning those he folds within,
to empty plains of Hell.

His heart is Eaten, gnawed and dry,
his hand is much the same.
He’s lost his sense of truth-in-self,
Forgotten his own Name.

I'll admit it. There's a part of me that appreciates the heated release and effectiveness of settling things physically.

Might not be smart, diplomatic, courtly or even the best way, but there is an honesty about it. Especially, when the battle is done and the dispute, and all the rancor that goes with it, is left behind by all involved. Just getting it out of both your systems and getting on with better things.

However, I get the sense that good, clean set-tos followed by mutual agreement to let things cool so that folks can move forward in a more affable if not more respectful way is perhaps all too rare an outcome these days. Grudges can grow deep roots with some.

On commissions, I make my request -
I give details then give it a rest.
What the artist will find
in their fine, fertile mind?
I will love, as they give it their best.

Thou.

I have searched most of Arx since mine own return thence.

Since the Sea gave me back to the world, almost a month ago, I have searched for news and met many who remember you.
But in all that month, the only news of you was old news.

I have tried to send @messengers, but none of them have been able to locate you.

If by quirk of Fate or Mangata's Favor this message should find you, I do implore Thee:

Please write.

So very little is permanent. What satisfaction we find is, yes, fleeting, but does that not make it more worthwhile? It's nothing to hold onto, but rather something to savor while it lasts.

The future is built upon the foundation we lay today. Let our work be glad and satisfying. Let it benefit those alive here and now. It's a better legacy than bitterness, isn't it?

Lady Amelie, I accept your challenge to the Cake War.
I'm also having our chef create something specific for our chosen weapons. There are no rules, simply a spot of fun until one of us yields.
May those caught in our defenses forgive us for the flying sweets that they may catch upon themselves.

A very tame concert, for where it was held and by whom. Would have figured more blood sport to be available.
However.
Plenty to drink, good conversation, and those to be around. Interesting music, played by the tiniest of fingers.
One of the many drawbacks from being constantly at war - Someone will lose all that is their world. Though to be able to rise out of the scorched land and learn to create something of such beauty for others to hear.

I ateendend the most wonderfu syphony concet at redrain the other evening . both the music and the setting were lovely. Some of the performers were so very young but they did an incredible job Princess Donella said that many were orphans or otherwisw served by charity. A breath of hope and proof that the work we do does some good
