There's an amazing statue just hidden away from the main path in the upper borroughs. never would have noticed it if I wasn't called upon by a friend to come by.

The intracity to how the sculpture pulls you in. The larger than life of its size, and simply the manner in which the couple depicted within the stone wind and intertwine to become one and two at the same time...

Anyway. If you get a chance to go wandering. Near the Sea side gate, There's a dark alley, then the hidden garden. Whoever the artist is...

When you do something you never thought you would, how do you feel after? I imagine it depends on the scale and significance of the something in question. But I wonder if others also feel a sense of awe? Even for the very small somethings. Just a little bit mixed in among the other emotions.

I have heard before that we should do the things that scare us, do them because they scare us, in spite of them scaring us. Which likely includes a lot of doing what we never thought we would do. Even the small things.

Lord Pasquale's relaxing fishing trip amid a lovely amicable gathering of people was just what was needed to get away from stressful paperwork. It was a surprise to discover such an ugly fish as the one I caught that had two eyes on one side, white on the other side, mottled coloring that looked just like a rock, tasted so good. It just proves that old saying... appearances can be deceiving.

I couldn't be happier for Mikani, though calling her Countess may take some getting used to. The reception was of course beautiful though I admit I was just happy to have the chance to catch up with Caspian-it has been far too long.

Sometimes it seems that answers create questions, not the other way around. as if I didn't have enough paperwork as it is, but such are duties.

Relationship Note on Mattheu

We danced tonight. That is nothing new. This is our habit. But it was in the park by the Assembly of Peers. When we were hunting for the Golden Egg the both of us found spots we wanted to see once more.

Matti decided that would be one of our first spots to do so. I teased him and said we needed to start a list and check off which garden or outdoor venue we visited next. I keep my satchel with me often. I do like collecting data you know for scholarly pursuits. I should work on that. Then we can come around and figure which ones are our favorites.

Scholar, Raja had a clever idea to do this hunt. I look forward to the next one she puts on.

Relationship Note on Gwenna

I have such appreciation for my cousin. It was nice to catch up with her in all the things, Scholar. I do not envy the stress she must be feeling with all the changes that have been going on lately. It is nice that her brother is back though. I need to catch up with him next. I also appreciate that she took the time to tell me the basics of a marriage contract. This will not be my first marriage but some things did slip my mind so it was good to have a gentle reminder. I am grateful to the spirits for letting me be a part of Redrain and especially for the time spent with Gwenna.

Once again, I have returned! There are some that missed me, and if I were honest, I missed them as well. Each time I return to the city, it is like a brand new adventure it seems. I have met up with some old friends and with family, yet also made a few new friends. I have found it incredibly interesting to speak with those from far off lands and learn what their lands are all about.

However, as much as I would love to be frivolous and carefree, current events seem to prevent that.

Relationship Note on Ann

There was a whole lot of exploration around the city. Many places found that either we both knew of, or only one of us knew of and we will seek to go back later. To give the shop or garden a better chance to fall into a place within our hearts.

In the Menagerie, it was the Butterfly Gardens for the longest time. If one were looking for me, and I wasn't in the Expanse or upon a boat setting to ensure its ability to sail. It would be surrounded by the tiny winged dancers of the wind.

We visited the Ferocious Beasts and Great Bears the other night. Seeing them through Princess Ann's eyes... There was a skip in my heart, and it was there under the great domes that the messengers found us with news.

Did you know Bears will watch and try to show that they too can stand and twirl and dance if you start dancing before them?

Relationship Note on Raja

(most of the journal is scribbled over as Lord Mattheu is both excitedly rambling and shouting at the scholar who is laughing and trying to convince the lord to be a little quieter.)

Scholar. Did you know of all the amazing places within the city? Sure there's shops and people's homes. And we take them out of the sights, then just look at the bare setting. There's still all of the little places, and not so little places where people meet for food, drink, to talk with each other, to see what beautiful designs are of the city...

... The gardens... and animals within them...

Yes. It all started with a hunt for a golden egg. At first the thought was literally fueled by seeking out a new knife. Then it became a journey to see more of the city. Areas that I knew of? But only really set foot to one spot of. So many beautiful gardens through this city too. Those that are gardening and ensuring the flowers are growing.

And whomever is caring to the animals in the menagerie. I will be making a donation to the zoo. It wasn't meant to disturb all of the animals. There was a moment in which we thought that would be where an egg would be hidden.

Relationship Note on Jan

Jan, your white journal about marriage interested me.

I had a marriage based on love. There were other factors but love was there and there was even a duel for my honor on the issue. I loved him very much. However, that love clouded much of what I should have seen before entering into such a relationship or contract.

Now I'm in a marriage that while there isn't love, there is mutual respect and there is a desire for us to achieve not only our goals but to help the other achieve theirs. I have great affection for my husband and I know one day there will be love. It's just that love isn't the base of our marriage. It is something much deeper.

Now this isn't my way of trying to sway you one way or another. It is more my explanation for my thinking. Even if I were a commoner, I think I would prefer the base of the marriage to be respect and the desire for helping the other. Love can fade. The others won't.

Just my two pieces of silver.

Relationship Note on Raja

There are some friends that will torment you needlessly. Then there are others that get a wild idea and set a golden egg somewhere in the city and you're suddenly finding yourself wandering the city. No necessarily to find it. Though, Scholar. It would be nice to have a new diamondplate knife. I can't say that if I find the egg that I wouldn't seek a piece.

Have you seen Raja's work? Fantastic.

I can say where we did not find the egg. Though I feel that would give an advantage to others that might be seeking the same egg. Thus I can simply leave it as Princess Ann has made sure that I didn't find myself easily lost in our adventures, and if distractions were found. 'Cause you know. The wind can lead you one way then another?

We were quick to be back on track.

The resourcefulness and dedication of the people of Artshall has left me in awe. With the farms and houses restored and the trees planted, the next stage will be moving back the beehives to their natural home and then the foundation of Duke Cristoph's Agriculture College. Maybe next summer the Art Festival will be celebrated. Perhaps the summer after that. Perhaps.

Speaking of love and matters of the heart. It is a terrifying concept to me. I had always been reluctant, hard to trust people. Why open my heart? It leads to just being abandoned and hurt in the end. I mean, I don't /want/ to feel this way. I want to be like those star struck lovers that had to be rescued from their own folly. I want to be lost in the eyes of someone so badly that I am willing to risk everything for it. The problem is, I was there and I was burned. Now, I am skeptical. I am mistrusting. If I were honest, I am afraid.

True love. Do you know the feeling? Well, that is what we think it is when we are young and full of dreams. I had to step in and help save the lives of two star struck lovers who thought it was a good idea to abscond together by hiding in the barrels of a merchant's cargo. You know, most ship captains are not very forgiving for stow-a-ways. These two youngsters think they are in true love! They were willing to flee the city and risk the wrath of the merchant's men just to be together. They fight against the wishes of their family just to gaze into each other's eyes one last time.

It's adorable, but sadly impractical.

So, I have taken the young man as an assistant! I figure it can give him a chance to make something of himself and become worthy of the girl's love. He could earn the respect of the girl's father. He could make a living for himself and gods willing, be able to afford a wife and family in the future. As far as the girl, well, I do not envy her father. I feel I would want to react the same way should it be one of my own daughters. Let some bloke try to steal one of /my/ daughters from me! I would cross entire continents and sail the circumference of every sea to get at the one who took her from me! Woe be to him!

I know it's common for marriages amongst peerage to be strategic not romantic but the notion of forming such an intimate partnership with someone you're not already invested in seems crazy. It makes me wonder if the advice for marriages amongst peers holds any water at all.
