Relationship Note on Leona

Dame Leona Thrax, the Lord Commander of the King's Own. She seems an honorable and capable woman, every bit what Rainier's described her as in the past.

But gods and spirits, she's a demon when it comes to training!

Running an obstacle course backwards while defending oneself... it's actually practical, gods know. I've been forced to move backwards on uneven terrain by something attacking me more than once in the field. But running the obstacle course once, doing the attacking-along-it twice, and then running the course a fourth time... I know I've been behind a desk at the Society too long, but every joint aches.

It's a good ache, mind you, but an ache nonetheless. (In contrast, I don't think she even broke a sweat. And that backflip was really just excessive.)

But she invited me back to train more. I have a feeling that's only the beginning of what she could -- and would -- put me through. Still, it can only help my performance in the field when I get out there and /explore/ properly again, so perhaps I'll take her up on it.

Relationship Note on Aislin

She was sent to me to help her get into shape, by someone who knew exactly how I trained my people. She didn't fall out, I'll give her that, and she kept up as well as could be expected. I didn't have the heart to tell her that what she experienced was what we did before weaponswork, but she also has an invitation to come back. She's Knight-Lieutenant Rainier's relation, and there are worse families around. She didn't complain either, it should be noted, and that workout is one that makes more than a few complain.

As an aside, I really need to find out which of those squires thought I was a monster for that easy little jaunt so he can find out what a monstrous workout is really like.

Relationship Note on Juliet

This journal may cost me friends but know what, fuck you.

My blunt honesty was something she said she loved about me, so I'm going to honor that and be who I am.

Juliet betrayed me. Broke my heart - and yes, I have one and yes, I cared for her.

When we first became lovers, I told her I did not want to give my affection and time to someone who placed themselves in harms way. Leave that to me. I didn't want to go through the grief and pain of losing someone to a horrific death on the battlefield.

So what does she do? Goes off and fights Brand.

I would -never- stand in the way of duty; we Malvici know that all to well. Duty always comes first.

But she had to put herself in that situation and I couldn't deal.

Then she went and got herself really messily killed. I don't know what, or what why... but it was everything I told her I couldn't bear to live through again.

So yes. I was going to break off our relationship. Even before she made a fool out of us at the Auction. That would have been our last time together. All of this, I would have told her.

And I'm also -pissed- no-one has let me see the scene. I'm a fucking doctor and have seen plenty of things just as obscene. So fuck you, don't try to shelter me, let me do my damn job and try to find out what happened to my friend. Let me face that nightmare and be done with it.

Relationship Note on Aislin

Today I feel as though I've sent Lady Aislin to her doom. No pain, no gain.

I've been in her place before under the very same instructor. There will be sweat and possibly tears. That very same instructor made me rethink my life choices a number of times.

Should innuendo and/or puns ever be outlawed its obvious that the punishment should be a good tongue lashing.

Perhaps detailing folk tales is not an effective use of my time with my White Journals.

I consider that it's far better than the alternative.

So many things to tell of, and I am days behind in my journaling. Vellichor forgive me.

The pool party was a smashing success. Well, for everyone *not* aboard the Ship of Fools. It was an exercise in folly to invite me aboard, but at least it was amusing, no? My brother Abbas is a man of great and vigorous spirit. Fairly certain all gathered was treated to the sight of his "spirit" for most of the day. My. I hope he didn't burn.

A legal loophole to outlaw puns? I find myself forced to ask the obvious question: for those who broke such a law, what would the pun-ishment be?

Relationship Note on Edain

I'm not sure and it has been on my mind since reading the blasted thing. Edain, when we say cornhole, can I be sure we are talking of the same thing? This game and it's nuances sound very similar to something else - I just can't quite put my finger on it. Let's just highlight the commonalities: Eager and inexperienced players causing messes around holes, finishing in dramatic fashion. Why does it seem to elude me? It's on the tip of my tongue.

I'm very pleased to record that the speculative navy first imagined by Dame Leta and I in the training center nearly a year ago finally had its first shakedown voyage and the results, while not extremely victorious, were nonetheless quite promising!

I think that the next time the opportunity arises we shall perform all the better for this experience, hopefully with a fully crewed vessel.

I would further add to Sister Gisele's comment that while Vellichor maybe-could-not judge, I certainly do.

I've yet to find the legal loophole that would allow arrest based on dubious puns, but I'll find it, rest assured.

He womped me with his monster.

Y'know, that huge rosy redsteel he goes around with. I'll add that he didn't even wear any armor, and I was in my full kit. Kinda expected it to happen, considerin' all. When he wins, he doesn't gloat. (New word. Thanks, Scholar.) He gave me a bit of advice, a bit of whiskey.

Dot liked him plenty good.

Honored Minister -
Knowing Mother Mercy Sophie has her hands full with her work, and not being too aware of the credentials of others in the city, I would accept with honor if no more suitable candidates can be located.

I'm rather of the mind that historians of the future and our descendants would rather see that we were human and ridiculous and had a sense of humor when considering ourselves. Besides, I was told once by a very wise man that Vellichor wants ALL of our reflections, even the ridiculous things, even the sappy love poetry, even the terrible jokes. Shouldn't the legacy we leave be one of us as we really were instead of some sanitized version that is noble and dignified yet lacks even a spark of life in it?

There many exciting opportunities to get involved with the Menagerie Revitalization Project, that I'm happy to include the community in, as the space will be yours in the end, so why not add your touch to it?

Tonight I'll be hosting a sponsorship night, a very casual soft opening since many of the areas of the park are still in various stages of construction. Feel free to come down and look around at the future of the menagerie and learn about the opportunities to get your name associated with a place to relax or an exhibit to look at. Sponsors, I'm hoping to see you tonight or sometime this week to register your intent of design with me so I can pass it on the architects! For everyone else, you may be interested in entering the Water Fountain contest! I'm asking the public to come up with their best ideas for the center piece fountain within the main plaza and then the sponsors (all levels) will vote on the best one!

Other than that, I'm hosting a masquerade with the aid of Maquessa Deepwood to lift spirits, bring some joy to everyone for a night, and generally have fun while all efforts continue to go to the menagerie - and what doesn't will be donated to a charitable cause. Don't leave your mask to the last minute, it promises to be a great time!
