Relationship Note on Delilah

Dearest sister,

I wouldn't dream of fighting you for Cullen. As much of a dear as he is you are much more important.

The field is yours for the taking. He had best treat you well, or I can think of many horrible things I would do to him in retribution.

Relationship Note on Martin

The story of what happened at the Tragedy is indeed such irony, for it was truly a tragedy. Brother Martin was a man of the Faith who lived by the ideals of the Church and the Gods themselves. Everything he did was for the betterment of the children in his care and for the souls of the faithful who were blessed with his guidance. While he did not die by my hands, or the hands of any mortal creature, my heart tells me I failed him none the less. May his sacrifice be remembered for what it was, an selfless act of bravery to protect his charge.

The Faith, The Compact and the children have lost someone special beyond compare. His service was inspiring and has assured me that walking the same path is what is right for me. I am sorry for the pain of his loss, and will strive to live up to his example and those who were touched by him so.

I would like to give special recognition to Lady Rosalie Redtyde for her performance on the Student Exams earlier today. Out of all seven students, she performed the most exemplary.

I've spent about a week in Arx at this point. Just passed the initial testing for the Scholars Of Velichor and things have been going well. Hope to start and complete my advanced testing soon. I've met a lot of great people, Marquis Fairen, my cousin has been nothing short of a godssend helping me get settled in. Lady Rosalie has been a delight to spend time with, both for her intellect and beauty. Princess Reese has been generous enough to let me look through her quite impressive library. She's also kind and insightful, though I don't think she realizes how much she is of either. My sister Lady Arcadia is still an all around bad ass and my sister Baroness Elloise still looks at everything around her with a near child-like wonder. Even if she is about to blow it up. Princess Coraline is still awesome and clumsy. Things have been good in Arx, I'm happy to be here.

Fire and stars, my head hurts.

I can't begin to see the full pattern. I grasp a piece, and sense flows through my fingers like sunlight wavering upon the sea.

I need to understand. There are far more elements at play, and dazzled, I am blind and stunned.

Relationship Note on Martin

We did not meet in life. Yet a man who perished to preserve a child deserves to be recognized, his name and memory preserved. A light goes out that should not have been guttered, and yet in the act of extinguishing itself, glows all the brighter.

Rest find you and peace with the Queen of Endings and Beginnings.

Relationship Note on Martin

As Thena writes, Brother Martin is known best by members of the Faith and by the orphans of the city. I actually know him little better than Thena - despite my being an orphan, I was raised away from the Tragedy in the Rectory. But that does not mean I did not visit it and the hard work with the Legates and later with the Dominus. And I think we all know the quality of his work in guiding young men by those who stand now with Solace and others and mourn his name. Despite his age, every time I met him he was seeking to be useful to the Faith - he was providing advice, hard earned and with the voice of great experience, to those of us who from necessity have raised high at a young age. He was taking on recently great risks, because someone must and he knew if his shoulders could bear the burden then at least another would be spared it.

We will remember him, all of the Faith. And the Solace will honour his sacrifice, they will continue I am sure to protect our travellers, to tend to the orphans, to provide charity. Thankfully, for I am a simpler man than Dame Thena, the Gods give a simpler task to the Templars. Justice. Now, or later, it will come for all those we have lost.

Relationship Note on Martin

At Softest Whisper Bliss's prompting, I will share what I know of Brother Martin.

He was probably not so well known outside of Faith circles of late, but for those of us who had the pleasure of working with him, his loss is keenly felt. Unfortunately I don't know much of his history before I took my vows but rest assured it was long and storied, and perhaps others can chime in with their memories from that time. He was a deeply devoted disciple of Gild, and I was privileged to work with him in the Silver Order. He was always ready with a kind word, to give of himself in whatever capacity he could. He was an exemplar of what it means to serve Gild, and as good as family to many who knew him. I regret that I didn't know him better.

I don't know if there's such a thing as a good death, but I know I have my preferences as to how I'd like to go to the Queen. And I hope I'm not being presumptive when I say that I think Martin would consider giving his own life to save an orphan child, a good death.

We will remember.

Relationship Note on Martin

Death seems to be the topic today.

I did not know Brother Martin - but I see the echoes of his loss in the writings of some of the people I respect the most. I see the heavy influence he played on their lives. From this alone, I must assume that the Queen of Endings is enthralled with his tales of all those children he met, helped grow, who they became, what they did.

But we are robbed of him in this world. One thing that has become starkly clear to me lately is that all that will be left of us, when everything else fades, are the things we built, the children we bear, and our stories.

I'd like to know more about this man. I am certain future Scholars will, as well. What other stories can be put into the Whites, to honor his passing?

All of this also makes me realize - it is time I begin to put all of mine into words. Into my Black. So that there is no mystery or speculation once I, too, pass, and prepare for my next turn on the Wheel.

I still haven't seen that painting, you know, although I can name a few people who would dearly love to hang it in their water closet so they can gaze upon it each time they use the chamberpot.

Why am I being shown two of your journals? One is quite enough. In any case, my thoughts on your meditative abilities might surprise you, but then again I did (despite my best efforts) grant you admission into the Society of Explorers based partially on your ability to keep a cool head.

At the very least, though, you should spend some time refining that skill. In silence.

All this talk of books leaves me of the mind I should write a story. As an undertaking, it cannot be so terribly onerous and inspiration as a muse has been stalking me through the halls, wielding a garrote and a chain, with which to knock me over, drag me back to a desk, and set me to toil with a quill.

This could be a sign I've spent too much time of late reading, and Countess Mia is a bit too much an inspiration about pursuing literary pastimes.

I could not agree more! The Baron's Muse is a tale I have found myself utterly caught up in and I can hardly wait for all of the books that may come in the series. I, too, must thank both the bright Gilded Page muse herself, Lady Monique, as well as the mystery author, Storm Knight. Sometimes it is nice to steal away a little bit of time for such pleasant reading.

That sharp eye for detail and graceful lines went straight to the very dress I wore for meeting its maker, purely a matter of circumstance and chance. But how can I complain about that? I hope to give her proper thanks and further business in the future. Petal shared her creativity in a vision of a silken nocturne that speaks to my very spirit. Remarkably gifted. Now to find a hoard of ancient silver to pay her for the privilege of more clothes.

Silk, truly an addiction.

Relationship Note on Monique

Refined, sophisticated, and whip smart. Do not ever seek to cross minds with her without being prepared to soothe away the sting of that bright wit in a good deal of wine. Or something stronger. Cold tea or milk is purely insufficient.

In every sense, truly a radiant individual.
