Note to self - continue to avoid hats. Clearly, my hair is most compelling feature.

It was quite an honor to have been able to attend a rather gala affair among my betters. And according to what many have said, the mere fact that I was able to stay afloat and not sink should be considered an accomplishment. I leave the rest of the naval innuendos to those who are of far higher standard than I and can endure such.

Why do silks insist on coming to the Lowers, Scholar?

There's not many of them are welcome, and the ones as are should still know to be careful. I mean, a little extra money floating around the Lowers from whoever finds them drunk and rolls them is nice, but the Iron Guard and Inquisition will only start sniffing around when it happens.

Relationship Note on Felicia

Seems Felicia's gone on the Wheel before me. That wasn't expected.

There was a lot of stuff we didn't see eye to eye on, but there was a lot of stuff we agreed on, too. For someone who was a knight with ties to the Iron Guard, and who was trying to get silked - she wasn't so bad. Not so bad at all.

She's going to be missed, though. And not just because she made me a promise she can't keep any more.

Why are so few content to be soveriegn overs themselves. Perhaps I misunderstand what that means but to me-it is the place we are each mightiest. Not beyond another's authority but to maintain authority of ourselves and our choices.

I will forever be grateful to Dane Felicia and her sacrifice. It was an honor to fight alongside her.

A loss, even if you didn't know them, is always si sad.

I've been reminiscing lately. About home. The stories from our elders, and it made me miss home more than I've realized. I think a trip is needed soon.

I've been so so BUSY! And attending meetings and packing for my uh...camping trip. It's been nice to be distracted.

Relationship Note on Felicia

I did not know Dame Felicia incredibly well, but I would certainly call us more than acquaintances. She struck me as someone who managed to be both incredibly practical and yet would run into a fire if a situation necessitated it. I did, in fact, quite literally see her run into a fire. She was very passionate about her family and their well-being; she reminded me of a mother bear, like the ones we so often see in the Northlands. I am grateful to have gotten to know her and some of her history, and feel honored that she even put some trust in me.

There are days that winter feels endless. It is like the cold will never cease and the snow might just stay forever. Yet, there is comfort in knowing, this will pass, everything changes, just give it another day. And another. And another.

Relationship Note on Hadrian

Of course, it is only too easy to get caught up dwelling over the past, rather than simply reminiscing. You remember only the good times, or else only the bad, ignoring that life then was much as it is now - full of both. You miss out on the present, forever comparing it to what was, especially when comparing it to the fabled good old days.

Perhaps those days were better than the ones now, but that is no reason to ignore what happiness the present affords you.

I'm sorry that I have been terribly guilty of this.

No news this week. We are taking it slow and resting up. I feel rested, but it is a nice change of pace. Weapons sharpened, armor cleaned, dog exercised, crow...fed? In any case, no dreams and no drama.

Relationship Note on Ilira

I confess that there are times when I feel adrift, when I wonder whether I am, truly, doing my best, or even whether it matters. I am certain that many people feel this sort of tumult at times, and for the most part, it always passes.

I say this, not to complain, but as a backdrop for last evening, when I entered the Queensrest Inn and renewed a most delightful acquaintance. Is there anything more exciting than to find someone who may know the same truths that you do, even if they might see them in a different way?

Tumult eases again into the calmer swell of deep waters. Much as shadows are all but banished by brilliant light.

Relationship Note on Lucie

My cousin Lucie has arrived to the city. It finally feels like the mansion is returning to life bit by bit.
Now if I put a bear in front of Eiran's room, I should place a tiger in front of hers.

It's not like me to be unsure of myself, even for a moment. But here I am, tracking fresh mud from the Oathlands all over this nice city, sleeping in a suite instead of under a blanket of stars, and setting off in the morning without my sword on my back. But I am adjusting rapidly to city life. Before long I will be just as comfortable wearing silks and furs as steel and leather once again. After all, today is for living!
