Went to the Clearlake Winter Festival today. I think Violet put just the right amount of whiskey in my cocoa. It was very warming, and I can still walk home! Well done.

Relationship Note on Violet
Let it be known that on this, the fifth day of March, 1010, I beat Commandant-Baroness Violet Farwatch in an archery contest on an icy night where you almost couldn't see the target around your own breathing. She's worked with me on the bow and arrow since the Blades dragged me out of the Lowers and into a better life. I thought I'd never be good enough to beat her, which said much more about me as a student. It's the best gift I have to give to the teacher I never deserved.
Of course, I'm still going to try to win the next one, too.

There is much more snow in my future.
I am unimpressed. But I shall endure in the name of assisting someone I t think I would like to call a friend if not one of my best clients. I shall need more tea from Draven to contend with it all. A new cane as well. All that metal in the cold won't be comfortable. Will have to think of something.

Artshall Spring Fête of Blossoms feels as if it's just around the corner, when really it's about two months away. So much time! And so quickly it goes. There's always a tremendous of amount of planning and talking involved. I'm excited at the prospects of seeing new and old friends visit our family home. I've plans to have the lawn cleared away so that visitors can set up their tents and pavilions, it's likely where I'll have the crafters and vendors set up as well.
We've received a beautiful painting from Master Jyri Tersk and an extraordinary tapestry from Mistress Petal Penrose. I look forward to seeing the tailoring masterpiece that's surely to come from Natalia Whisper.

Well it finally happened. I've gotten to the point I have my stoumach protest the sight of soup. It didn't help that I got sick recently either.
I'm going to carry hot cocoa in the soupflask for a while. Now it is the cocoaflask. Maybe I'll take to jerky as well, I've gotten better at hunting. Some of the other guardsmen swear by a good jerky.

It is good to be out and about again!
The cold has been such that I've mostly stayed in my cozy little flat except to take care of business. I'm kinda used to that, because it was what I did when I was traveling and could afford to - rent a place, do research, hole up. And before I could afford to do that, I'd usually find myself in some small village or town, hunting, ice fishing, or gathering what herbs were left in order to sell to get me through the winter. So it sort of comes naturally.
But I had to realize that, in Arx, I don't have to! I've got enough of a cushion that I don't have to spend all day working, and there are plenty of people around and things to do, and interact with. And the chances of getting run out of town for being an annoying outsider are considerably lower! We're all sort of outsiders here, if you look at it in a certain way.
So, I'm going to try and be better about the social thing, for sure. And I've got some new projects to work on! I'm very excited.

Today I made a very hard choice, but a right choice. If there was any doubt in what I was doing, it was erased the moment I actually did it. Kind of like how someone like lets say... Lady Cadenza might really like that fresh cup of hot chocolate, but she's allergic to cocoa (she isn't really (probably)). Everytime she tries it she gets a little sick and feels awful for the next day. She finally decides she's going to stop, but has to say it to the cocoa's face. She buys a cup, brings it to her lips and instantly it burns her and then gives her hives and then spills itself on her gown and down her front and she ends up stuck with the mercies for the next month.
Yeah, she's probably not second guessing herself anymore either.

I met with Marquis Hadrian Mazetti, a great man working for a good cause. A cause I have now also joined - the Arvum Refugee Relief Group. (I wonder if they like to call it ARRG?)
Either or, it's what I wanted to do for a long time but I realised I'd be better off joining an actual organisation focused on it, where my help gets to best use. I got some goals to work towards there already, apart from meeting and greeting refugees and helping out with practical things.

Fairly laid back week. In fact, I don't think I did much of anything, which is just how I like it.
Great dinner on the Tasty Terrapine - that ship has a great captain and a great crew. And that soup!
If I didn't like captain Valenzo, I'd have try to nab that cook right under his nose, but that'd be one bad move on my part. I figure I will just try to get myself invited over for more dinners instead.
Still reeling a bit over being an uncle. In the best of ways.
