Relationship Note on Miriemi

This veteran soldier who attended the Valardin Grand Ball never gave her name, but she did give me something to mull over. I know not if anyone in attendance knows who she is or where she might be found, but I make mention of her here, where I rarely express my thoughts, in hope that perhaps someone will read this and gift me with the answers I seek.

And should you be reading this, goodwoman, please know that I wish you well and that you remain such.

I attended the sailing party hosted by Princess Donella and Duchess Nadia. My first time on a ship, and apparently I am not prone to sea-sickness, for which I am thankful.

Dawn was there, and I was able to express to her how much I respected her, and wanted to help in asserting how much I wished for her to be respected by others. Despite that, she still holds my friendship in warm regard, and so I can simply call her Dawn with good grace.

I've recently made friends in the forms of Princess Natalia and Lady Juliet. Both of them are far more adept socially than me, and I've taken to watching them as they interact with others. Lady Juliet seems the sort who flirts with anyone she finds lovely, and I confess to it being a bit confusing. I think they may both see me as some kind of wide eyed doe, but they've also never seen me on the floor of the Assembly. Of course, in the social arena, I rather am a wide eyed doe.

Prince Jarek wants to speak further with me about the clinic, and Lord Damon danced with me. I'm certain he was only being polite, but I hope to speak to him again, as apparently he has an academic nature.

The most magnificent part of the whole event was seeing the sea light up from within. Apparently there are creatures who live under the surface who produce the glow, and there are all manner of stories - myths and legends about them. I am curious about their biology, as I am curious about many things, but I simply don't have the time time to spare to learn as much as I'd like. If I don't speak for Old Oak and those else who have no voice, who will?

Relationship Note on Abbas

It seems I've grown quite friendly with more than a few Thraxians as of late. This Thraxian prince is no exception. He's rather sweet, endearing, and extremely intelligent. It took a while for him to finally see me as an equal, rather than in the light of a Thrax lady, but I'm very grateful for it. Speaking of Thraxian ladies, Lady Cordelia (the little spitfire of the isles) thinks him a nasty drunkard and an exceedingly failing disappointment to what she envisioned, to which he purposefully made her think so. Their encounter amused me to no end, though I think both of them wouldn't think too kindly of that.

The voyage turned out quite beautifully, all things considered. The guests seemed to really enjoy themselves, and the seas were blessedly gentle and fair with nothing but the heavens looking down upon us. The merchant Princess Donella and I commandeered the ship from wasn't as miffed as I thought he would be. It seems all it took was mentioning Lord Victus and Prince Abbas' names with gentle praise of the man's benevolence and a lady's guileless smile to see him willing to let me borrow it for future voyages - at a small fee, of course.

Relationship Note on Aldwin

Archscholar Aldwin has become an unexpected friend in the Vellichorian Academy of mine. He carries himself with an unfailing kindness and wisdom. I cannot help but to regard him as a doting grandfather, full of good humor and mischief and always delighted to indulge my whims without hesitation. He's agreed to oversee my trials into becoming a scholar of Vellichor, for which I'm also most delighted and grateful.

An ink-brush drawing. Dozens of interlocking black circles. The overlap is uneven. Some circles barely touch. Others are joined half-in and half-out. Five are colored: red, blue, yellow, green, purple. A scrawled arrow points to the right-center of the network of circles. Written along the arrow haft, "This is art, Aureth!!"

Relationship Note on Alis

Alis is perhaps the only woman in our family shorter than Sophie and I and for that, I am grateful to her. She has a great deal of wisdom for her age and the effect she has upon Edain is hard to deny, by the day he reminds me more of our Uncle and I cannot help but feel Alis is the one to give credit for that. She does worry me though, courage and bravery tend to result in dangerously short lives especially when one is as deadest upon having a statue erected in their honor as she is.

I must admit that I am very pleased with how the Grand Ball went, other than a decided lack of dance partners for many of the esteemed guests that attended. Such a thing would have never happened in Sanctum, but that is the fault of the Hostess. I shall endeavor to ensure that for our next ball, there are a suitable number of dance partners available to avoid any unfortunate situations or broken hearts. I must admit, the attendance of Duke Leo Fidante, however short as it was, was a definite highlight of my evening although I am not entirely sure why. Perhaps he reminds me of home and the days long past in a strange way, even if I did not know him as a girl.

The Valardin's ball last night was terribly impressive -- the home was beautifully decorated and the guests were the pinnacle of proud nobility. The dancing and the music and the wine, everything, was perfection.

For a few brief moments, I forgot. That alone was worth it.

Lady Dafne danced with Prince Beaumont, Lady Sylphie danced with several gentlemen, and I had a chance to meet Duke Leo -- all in all, a rather successful evening, I think.

Relationship Note on Jareth

Jareth is an interesting man. One of the actors that performs regularly, and a member of the Mummers, I deal with him often enough. He is charming and handsome if you are into the actor thing. I think I see him differently than most, perhaps because we are around one another so often, that I am not as susceptible to his ways as most other women are.

Relationship Note on Isabeau

My attendance at the Valardin held ball came late, but I was nevertheless greeted with the courtesy I have grown accustomed to from that house. Many years my younger, she was gracious in her dance with me, despite an otherwise mediocre performance on my part. I am not often given to such gatherings, but I must admit, against my better sense, to a pleasant evening overall.

I am generally not one to frequently put quill to the pages of my white journal, but I would feel remiss were I to not set the record straight regarding a certain incident that transpired Saturday morning -- particularly because so many have been talking about it.

During the camping trip, I did go on a boar hunt with Lord Victus Thrax, Lady Dawn Grayson, and her adorably deadly deerhound, Macdon. It is also true that I incurred the sow's ire, and she charged me. Lady Dawn was most insistent that the luck of the Gods was bestowed upon me, for I escaped unscathed, although the vestment of my vocation most certainly was a casualty, an entire chunk savagely torn away. Lord Victus and Macdon dispatched the beast with such skill and swiftness -- even before I could strike, she was slain -- I would say that I was doubly blessed.

For those who are concerned that I am a liability on a hunt, please be assured that my good Highlord cousin, Prince Edain, gave me all the expected lectures. Boars do not respect the rules of engagement, he informed me, therefor do not recognize the universal rule that one does not assault a Mercy of Lagoma. Therefore my place is in the rear, atop a battle horse trained to bash in the skulls of any boars who would dare attack my person, so says my liege. I am a bit chagrined to admit that I never realized how dangerous it all was, for my brother and my cousins always made it seem so safe and easy the rare occasions I accompanied them on their quests for fresh bacon. Deer certainly are not so troublesome.

That said, even Lord Victus could find no fault with my field dressing of the beast. (Although I suspect he might be disappointed that I didn't accidentally rupture one of the sow's milk sacks, which would've made a most unfortunate mess all over my person, but that is neither here nor there.) Perhaps the bottle of Kraken spiced black rum that I sent him will ease the sting a little.

There's nothing worse when the mood is set, and all things look wonderful, and you're left standing alone - without even a drink in your hand. Actually, there is one worse thing: to be alone, without a drink, and unable to leave. Because you were stupid enough to get onto a ship.

I see the moon eyes, you're giving me, so I know you're a romantic as well. It isn't as if I planned to get all sappy feeling and misty-eyed, but it happened.

She attended my Shaman seminar, but did not speak up. It wasn't until after it had concluded that conversation was struck up and she asked to speak with me at a later date, more one on one. We are of different faiths, different walks of life, but her intellect and dedication is to be admired. I would be foolish to ignore the lessons I could learn from speaking with her further.

Relationship Note on Natalia

The Grayson approached me for tea, of all things, to start of with. How she got my name or who put it in the hat for her, I do not know. What was an unexpected evening turned into a pleasant one and an oddly sparked friendship. Apparently, her list of grievances and insults incurred is to be given to me to deal with. I think some would call that the equivalent of a 'hit list', but without the gravity of death.

I think I like her because unlike most here in the South, she doesn't seem preoccupied with trying to get me in silks - or out of them for that matter. She is unapologetically herself, flawlessly. I may not be one for weaknesses, but one weakness most seem to have is putting me in the bracket of only being able to recognize martial strengths. The Princess won't be riding into battle or wielding a sword alongside me by any stretch of the imagination, but she does have her own arsenal of another sort. Not all wars are won by steel stained crimson.
