It's easy to want to criticize yourself based on how you placed in the Iron Penthatalon, but we should well remember these people we competed against were the very same who were courageous enough to take a stand against evil and will continue to do so. Look not to others as those you can defeat or have defeated you, nor as a way to measure yourself but instead see them as those who you can look to in your time of need and who are your equal in ability and heart.
To me, the city is full of heroes and the ones that stand out are those who are selfless and not acting for the sake to be known or for some reward, instead our heroes do what they do for the sake of knowing that it is the right thing to do. Some we may never know what they do.
Measure yourself not on medals. All those who competed were brave enough to do so, to show their merits. We know who to call upon.
Congratulations to all the Iron Penthatalon participants.

Sometimes we cannot see ourselves as we are truly are. Sometimes we can fixate on the things that define us that should not.
Prince Fergus you are a warrior, not a duelist. That is something plain to see in every breath, every movement, every look you send around a room as you dissect it to understand how the battle will flow if one breaks out.
In a duel you can dance around, you have room to breath, in a war more often than not you have to plant your feet and hold back the storm, because if you move from that spot your comrades who depend on you to be there to protect their flank will be vulnerable. Prince Fergus, I would fight shoulder to shoulder with you before almost any other duelist in all of Arvum. You were forged in the fires of battle.
And when the stakes are at their highest you are amazing to watch. Like the time you swatted a poison blade from the air and saved my sisters life. So I will thank you not to call yourself a fraud. You are nothing of the sort. You are a big damn hero.

No matter our finally standing, I hold my head high knowing how well the Valardin represented themselves in the Iron Pentathlon. This is only one man's opinion but I am very proud of you all. You have done the Oathlands proud.

The tourney goes beautifully so far, so many upset victories and a few real challenges. I'm glad I came. Ribbons will have to truly work for her victory this time though if she's to take it.

Losing the race and the swimming to Reese was almost worth it for the bet paid. And by gods she's sexy when she's kicking ass. She's grown so much in the past year I can't even believe it sometimes. Not that I'll give her an easy time at the tourney concluding this all.

While dropping off a few journal entries for archival, I took notice of a submission awaiting categorizing and archiving. Written by Lord Darrow of House Darkwater, an individual whom I've had to pleasure to fight alongside in the past. On a couple of occasions, if I recall correctly.

No, plans don't change. The end game remains the same, only the events leading up to that ending change.
Besides, sometimes changes can be pleasurable opportunities. Exciting, even. Changes present challenges, an opportunity to dig into the past when you know the path it will take, and to truly put your calling to use.
A victory is sweet, but a well executed strategy makes it all the sweeter.

Pragmatic and realistic, the Countess of House Riven is someone that I know that over the course of our lifetimes, I will work well with. In terms of our line of fealty and vassalage. It amuses me at times that our vassal is as much a mirror of House Deepwood, yet with their own distinct differences. Count Thesarin is a Prodigal. I can't claim the same. I don't think.

I had the good fortune to meet Lady Reigna and her husband as we watched the archery contest. That they watched me stuff my face with bacon themed everything, and joined me in cheering like a loon ... but still did not come away with a poor impression of me definitely speaks well to a future lasting friendship!
