I am now returned home from the Gray Forest. Though the missions were not quite what we expected -- the threat has moved far too close to the City for purely preventive diplomacy -- we had our successes, and hopefully have done something to shift the momentum regarding the threat.
I was in command once more, and succeeded in defending a Tribe of helpless Abandoned being pursued by dire animals. It felt good, to be among the best Arvum to offer, and to hold my own. And I get a kick out of the appellation "Scourge of the Dire Bears."
But just as soon as I am returned home, I am deployed once more, now in support of the Ministry of Defense. It is good to be useful. But it would be nice to have more than a few nights in my own bed.

What I did to deserve the eye of such a stunning Marquessa, I have no idea. Seems it was just by virtue of existing as the man I already am. I am truly blessed and lucky then that she wishes for me to have her patronage. I look forward to seeing more of her family when the time comes, I've heard her husband is already quite the character!

We travel back to Arx. I think that I'm going to take a bath and have a couple days to relax and recover. It has been quite the trying venture, though I believe we were to some extents successful. The siege of the camp, which no doubt men and scholars will soon name, was the one thing that caused us the greatest strike from the enemy. I am glad for those that survived, and pray to the Queen for those that didn't. As far as the talks of spirits go, I'm not well-versed in them, but I am glad that it was resolved and recovered. World gets stranger all the time.

My cousin Reese fought in the Siege of the Grayson Camp with inspiration and valor. Perhaps, if she hadn't been with us, the results would've been different. I am not a fanatic of speculation, however. A fact is that I am glad she is with us.

I am very grateful though to Princess Alis for taking me with her and allowing me the privilege of assisting her in the battle. Furthermore, I adore that she and I seemed both think that spooking and running the horses off the field was a good idea and decision. And that not many of them ended up injured.

Talks of babies! One part of me wants to go BAH! Like a grumpy old man. The other art simply remembers Mirabel holding 54. The memory is bittersweet for me. He's off being his own man. I miss them. She would have been so proud of him. I'll never forgive myself for failing them.

Wishing all the best to my cousin Duke Cristoph and the new Duchess Nicia. I was only able to stop by the reception very briefly, but it was more than sufficient time to note it was quite the lovely affair, as expected of an event in the care of the Whisper House.
While my mother is no longer with us, I am always just as glad to see House Laurent's successes and to be able to share in their triumphs as much as she would have.
